"and watching your club p!ss away your career on a coach you think is - to put it nicely - severely limited. And you're watching Geelong coast into another GF." Or what if your part of the entitled mess that landed you here, now you want the easy option out.. sh*t outcome either way but ****ing soft by him.

I 100% agree it's the soft / easy option to chuck it in and go elsewhere.

Carlton just put themselves in this risky position though by failing to get it together - ever.

I don't think Curnow will be going anywhere but losing him wouldn't be the end of the world either. We need to reshape the list significantly. Losing TDK, SOS, Curnow is definitely bad on paper but it gives Wright / Austin the chance to reshape this playing list into something that could actually be functional / consistent.

Fair. Would probably just take contract TDK was offered though
If you mean $1.1 that's probably doable but some seem to think he'd be after $1.5+
But then there's the cost of the trade and how that impacts our F/S situation particularly next year.

At least I expect Davies will know what our chances are - IE what it would take on both fronts and if worthwhile pursuing and if Butters is likely interested too.

Pie in the sky butters hey.
The Blues are pulling back on big contracts, not adding to them. We won’t be touching Butters
I think the major factor re Butters is that port will match any bid made probably up to 2 million. So itll be a kings ransom, even if we do trade charlie there wouldnt be enough capital for get him.

Correct.

Club will not stump 3 early draft picks plus pay 1.5 million +. It’s just not the direction the club will be taking

HCJ I'd like to question why wouldn't you? It's exactly the path the club should be heading.
1.5mil is cheap, much rather pay that to butters than TDK
Our list isnt in the shape brisbanes was when they went for Neale and I see a Butters trade in a similar vein to that. Although the price will be more. If it is the Dogs, I don't even know how they get it done.

Would clearly walk in and be our best player, why would you be against that? Turn TDK and SOS picks into Butters? Yes please.
This guy has the footy IQ to take us to 17, id be moving heaven and earth.

Well according to most media pundits - Superstars are willing to take less to get to their preferred destinations.

Because we have holes all over the park and the club need to address this over the next 2 years

Adding Butters doesn’t automatically make us a premiership team.

But what we currently have is a forward line who outside of Charlie and Harry (if and when they are playing) (plus my man Frankie) is a poor forward line. It’s not cohesive and we are missing some quality. Butters doesn’t fix this.

Then, we have around 6 or so players on around a million or so a year. It’s too many. The top tier players are great and all, don’t get me wrong. It’s like we have A graders then C and D graders. Not enough B graders imo. Adding Butters only means there’s less money to spread around.

I know we all like shiny new toys, but Butters will not make our team win a premiership. We need better players across the park imo. And 1.5 was just a guess, I’d say he will be on close to 2 when he signs his next contract.

Hope this helps 👍

Cost. In picks and salary.
Also timing.

Imo the biggest issue with out recent list builds has been trying to take short cuts to accelerate the build/finals rather than committing to the draft.

If we hadn’t of traded for Judd, we would have kept Kennedy, and perhaps drafted a couple of other solid players with picks 3 (master/Palmer/Henderson/Dangerfield/mcevoy/rioli) and 20.

Similarly with saad and to a lesser extent cerra trades.

IMO trading first round picks for players should only ever happen when a club has demonstrated some level of ability to reach and compete in the finals

I have less of an issue with jager smith trade as we would have expected our future 1st and future second picks to be much later this year than it turned out out to be

Gov, EH and Charlie trades to come so upgrades available with plenty of room for Dean and other FS.
I just watch Butters and see this incredible leadership which is exactly what this club needs.
Gov and EH are not worth a pick of any value (i.e. nothing under Pick 55).

I’d be very surprised if the AFLPA would allow themselves a reduction in working conditions. I asked what other sporting leagues do it because as far as I know, it’s very little.

There would be other tweaks you could do to give clubs more say, before going down a path I doubt would ever get up.

The AFL is also talking about following the lead of other codes and implementing max contract length
The American ones allow trading without consent

My question is, with Cody coming, there's a substantial draft capital to be paid for him, where does all this spare money get spent? We won't have picks to trade and the FA market apart from Butters isnt great, the UFA market stinks....
