Resource Post - I'll endeavour to update this post with info and links relevant to what's happening over the coming week

- Meet Up, Live Sites & Viewing Party discussion

- Grand Final Ticket discussion (please don't start separate threads for ticket sales)

A lot of Brissy Fans online must have their Weeklight Savings mixed up. They keep insisting that Geelong played their Grand Final last week  /sarcasm

Our post- Mad Monday fitness should still thrash the Lions.

I'd be tempted to start Clark and play Martin as the sub.

Blitz forward to play a role on H Andrews.
Maybe; I certainly wouldn't be forcing it. I think Blicavs works best when we're not using him to negate someone (and therefore take himself out of the game). Part of the cluster&*&( that was Round 15 was deciding to play him at FB on Day.

If Andrews becomes an issue, sure. But let's not needlessly unsettle the forward structure. Besides, it's pretty hard to tag a CHB.

PS: People do realise the girls are playing right now?

Such an amazing club - regardless of the result, got to be damned grateful to follow a team that plays such an entertaining brand of footy, develops and renews talent without much trouble and is contesting yet again. Huge kudos to everyone connected.

Got to be honest - ignore the QF and the bookies - it is going to require an incredible effort to win. IMO, the gargantuan challenges are-

  • hugely worried about our defence without Stewart and Henry possibly carrying an injury, the inexperience of COS and shaky form of SDK. Blitz will help but will rob the mid field if we’re under pressure there. Also can’t see the Lions smalls being as ineffectual as last time. Think our mids and forwards are going to have to flood back as much as possible.
  • Andrews. Got to avoid him dominating. Neale has to run off him and open up the space behind or aim to bring the ball to ground. I’d also rather chaos balls rather than skied kicks that Andrews and Gardner can pick off. Got to make it a ‘lead up’ and open up space game.
  • Biggest challenge are the mids. Sure, so effectively blanketed by Atkins and Mullen last game but 100% guaranteed Fagan and co have plans to address. Wouldn’t be surprised if there are reports from this game. Also expect to see Mullen dragged deep into Lions’ forward line at every opportunity. I’m thinking the Lions use max physical pressure on those two and anyone tagging and niggle Smith (and Clark and Dempsey) at every opportunity. I think that we have sufficient physical intensity in Danger, Atkins, Mullen, MOC and Mannagh etc to meet the challenge.
  • inexperience- 10 GF debutants - against a 3 in a row team.
Don’t get me wrong - if the Cats can bring and execute their ‘A game’, we’ll win this. If we bring max pressure on the mids and make it a fast running game on the wide MCG, use the incredible fitness, talent and super smarts of Cameron, Dempsey, Mannagh, Stengel etc - it is ours. I’m expecting a super hard first 40 mins - if Cats are even or even few goals down, subject to injuries and good execution, we’ll win. Could be a GF ‘for the ages’. Who cares - just get it done Cats!

It's not hard to tag a KPD at all. Infact, with the right player it's quite easy.

Soz but I couldn't care less about the AFLW.

Don't say that. The Doggies board are lurking here and were utterly furious at our "arrogant" posters discussing which Cat they'd like to see win the Norm Smith.

You’re kidding?
Are they that mentally head****ed that they are annoyed we are picking who could win Norm Smith for us?

Lol Baz has done a number on them, they are cooked 🤣

That's not how he coaches. It will be the same plan as last time, and the semi, and the prelim (and almost all of last year).

There'll be an attempt by Brisbane mids to physically hassle the tagger(s), something they have no experience of doing. With a bit of luck, it will lead to some free kicks and the Lions players taking themselves out of their usual positioning.

Even if that's true, do we do it at the expense of taking out a small forward (who?) in order to do the one thing which has never worked in a Geelong forward line all year - play three talls?

I'd send him to Ah Chee as a direct swap for Stewart's role. Ah Chee is back to being low impact and doesn't tackle and is a clanger machine when outside 50. Let's see how he goes chasing Blitz up and back and around all day.

Andrews didn't influence the result last time; no need to overreact.

Yes, and reporting it to the Brisbane board to stir them up. There's been a few neutrals in there begging for the Lions to win. All rather amusing. Who'd have thought the little old Cats could cause such a fuss?

If we play the way we did in the QF in where we restrict their ball movement via our pressure, we should be in a good spot to win.

It'll be interesting to see if Brisbane can stop our scoring from the 20+ min mark of quarters (aka time on or junk time) where we've scored +422 points in junk time alone because we run teams off their feet.

Note:

  • We're the 5th highest team to score this much in junk time in history and 3/4 teams that scored this much in junk time went on to win the flag (the team that didn't win was Cats in 08).
  • Doggies are the 2nd highest scoring team in Junk time for the year and they only scored 166 points in this, a 256 point differential.
  • In the Prelim we outscored Hawks in Junk time 56-2.
  • In QF we outscore Lions 58-21 (with 12 points coming from the Rayner frees)

I don't think she likes us :D

And for god's sake Doggie fans, we're excited and optimistic. I assume you were in 2016 too except I didn't fricking lurk on your message board to find out because I was resentful that Joel Hamling was playing for you instead of us.

Tell me again - how many grand final debutants did we have in 2007 compared to Port? Didn't seem to matter then.
