I've said it elsewhere and to other people, their FS/academy pick ups are akin to the Cats in 06 getting Hawkins for cheap.
Except they were a top side when they got Ashcroft, then were winning flags while doing it again and again and again almost in a row. Imagine the out cry if the Cats were a prelim team in 06, got Hawkins in the draft for nothing, won the flag in 07 then did it again.... then again..... and then again.
I dont ger how we are disliked for assembling a team of rookies and late picks to a grand final, yet Brisbane are loved being handed top 3-5 draft picks for 3 years in a row making grand finals, and also receiving academy kids and free agents.

I dont actually think any of brisbanes 5 flags have been achieved thru anything less than heavy concessions and an abundance of early picks.

Their 01-03 flags were a result of the merging of brisbane bears which netted them massive talent for free ar the time.

I'm thinking about St Kilda's apparent interest in SDK and why he'd be of interest to them to the point of what's being speculated regarding a potential trade in involving SDK & Marshall

  • St Kilda already had Silvagni coming in as a FA
  • They've been heavily linked to Leek Aleer, including a crazy large deal for a player who has only 25 games to his name
  • Wilkie has reportedly had a meeting with the Beveridge & the Bulldogs, though that has been played down as him looking at moving on and instead more about a pay boost

The interest in SDK seems to have for from almost no where, so could it be that maybe things have fallen through with Aleer, or that maybe there's a bit too play out with Wilkie looking at his options

I'm just thinking that IF St Kilda is looking at SDK, then maybe there's a bit of a watch of what else is happening around their list

It's genuinely absurd - the only good free agent we've ever landed has been a 31 year old Isaac Smith (Dangerfield and Cameron were trades). Brisbane are landing Oscar Allen and Sam Draper for free, both players would walk into our best 22 and most other club's.

We had some generational father-son picks two decades ago and now watch Daicos x2, Ashcroft x2, Darcy, Moore run around for other clubs when we haven't had a good father-son since Hawkins 19 years ago.

We had five players traded in from other clubs play yesterday - last weekend Hawthorn had seven (not counting Gunston who they technically traded back from Brisbane), Collingwood had nine!

He's been spotted in training footage and the very very limited/odd training photo going back May - he could even be spotted in group running footage from last week

So there'll be a level of fitness maintained, but 12 months of no matches could be telling - especially if the off field issues continue into 2026 and it's another extended period out of the game... Pending the result going in his favour

If those off field things don't go in his favour, then yeah none of the training will matter
Pretty sure I saw him on the ground for the medal presentations yesterday.

Has to be a 3rd club there

A prominent Swans ITK poster has stated Curnow will nominate the Cats tomorrow.

Make of that what you will, absolutely no idea how it gets done.
2 questions

1 that " person in the know " how reliable is there word?

2 80% of Geelong fans don't know how a deal can be done... You would have to agree as well wouldn't you?

Unless C4[2]Yo`DooR says its happening im not believing it (no offence to you).
On this i just dont see it. Carlton wont accept 2 future 1sts from us and the trade wouldn't get done unless we put someone like Holmes or sdk or neale or osullivan humphries on the table (all our other guys are too old to have the trade value) which i hope we wouldn't do then I can't see how it gets done.

I know Charlie loves the Geelong area and nearly came here when he last signed. I wonder if maybe this is a ploy by curnows manager to get Sydney to offer both more $ to him and more assets to Carlton.
I doubt its our idea but we probably wouldn't discourage it-silvagni will be obstinate with marshall and it might well help us get him to move if he thinks all our trade assets are about to disappear.

Ok.... if.... And i mean if.... We can't get a deal done for Marshall... Who is the next ruckman we try and get? And please don't say Mason Cox

Found the posts WalshistheGOAT was referring to:

and:

I find the whole thing bizarre - we need another mid or ruck far more than Curnow (as good as he is) and in any case Carlton would want a haul not far removed from what we traded for Jezza and I can't see any way we could do it.

Surely he wouldn't publicly nominate us without some level of agreement between the two clubs, so I'll believe it when I see it.
Tbh Cameron was different because a) we had 3 r1s that year but also he was RFA and could have walked to the draft (though he never would have) so gws accepted teens picks. I dont see Carlton accepting any teens from us unless an sdk level player is involved.

What I will say is I dont think Marshall is a certainty to happen and Mackie being Mackie if SOS wont deal I think he will find a cheap backup ruck somewhere else and trade the marshall picks for other assets. But I dont think that will be curnow.

Scott doesnt like the dinosaur type of ruck so I doubt it.
Moyle would be the one id love but I dont think you could lever him out of that contract.
If hawthorn get really active with midfielder trades I wonder if you could get ramsden with the right offer and the no1 ruck spot.
More realistically probably someone like ladhams for cheap (he could cover us for a year or two while we assess the market) is probably where you go if you can't get a better young ruck.

Give me Curnow over Marshall. Curnow is a match winner and bona fide star. Partnering him with Jezza would be bloody exciting.

I agree but give me marshall over nobody because I dont see any way we can get curnow out (unless you want to trade sdk et al).

I think there’s some big assumptions made about Marshall and whether he wants to leave and wants to get to Geelong. Everything I’m hearing points to that but I won’t believe it until I hear it from him or his manager.

If Curnow nominates Geelong this week it leads me to think GFC have told him they can get a deal done and that Marshall might be off the table. No logical way I see both deals getting done.

What I have been told.

Wilkie has been offered 1.5 mil a year by the bulldogs. The only question mark is who they get in return (targeting Frejiah). Aleer is getting paid less than reported and will be a late pick. GWS have a salary squeeze.

As I reported earlier Flanders is likely at St Kilda. They kicked off everything with Merrit. They also have another inside Mid on the radar - not sure who?

I'm told SDk is currently part of discussions regarding Marshall and is a real possibility. Scott doesn't see how all of COS, Kolo, Henry and SDK all fit within the same backline.

Reeves from Hawthorn? Would be a stop gap until Edwards or Conway are ready

Yeah but do st kilda have the currency (picks not cap space) with all their other deals and do they honestly need sdk that much given that they will have wilkie Tauru silvagni aleer and maybe caminiti in the defence? Frankly sdk to the bulldogs would make more sense (not that i think that will happen).

I can believe some of that (the sdk bit primarily) but I can tell you there is zero chance the dogs trade freijah and about 1 % chance Wilkie gets released.

I can see some chance of trading sdk somewhere but it would have to be involving us getting an elite mid (and Butters isnt moving this year) and would be a 3 or 4 club trade. Moving sdk for marshall and a first rounder in a crap draft does nothing for us. As good as kolo is hes 30 and coming off major injury. If you are going to give up the quality in defence you only do it to strengthen the midfield now not through the draft.

Heath

Just offer a better deal than Melbourne can

I've been thinking Kolo as a potential player in the trade.
I believe sulli and SDK are our future.
Henry won't go
Kolo could fill the Wilkie hole
