Yeah C.Scott et al let Scarlett run him out of town..
Well no, but he wasnt playing 1s in part due to a terrible relationship with Scarlett (who Geelong pushed out the door that year).

Clark wasnt quite as simple as "not in Geelongs best 22".

One of the few cases of player mismanagement from Geelong actually.

yuck. can we all agree his name is McVee going forward? Anything else should be illegal.

Aye??

it’s already very cathartic telling weagle fans we have the best Reid in the state , imagine following that up with
“and the best Judd to play in WA too”

Yeah I realize that and Scarlett was moved on shortly after.

Rubbish. Pick 29 isn't enough, especially after it drops back 5-6 spots after free agency and the West Coast assistance package.

It's closer to the mark than pick 11 but still isn't nearly enough.

A pick in the early 20s, especially given what it'll become on a draft night, is pretty close to the correct price.

We'll get ten very good years out of McVee.
Is this you wallsy?

Potential duration means nothing in a trade

Uncontracted

Shouldn't be entertaining any sort of deal including our 1st. 29 may slide to 35?

Do you think eagles are happy that chesser, a mid first rounder will likely have to accept a pick in the 30s?

Unless we are offering a 7 ear deal which says we are all in where Melb can argue for a higher pick, this deal should be pick 39

If Freo is offering five years on more money than Melbourne are paying for that two year deal the trade will be expensive.

... but Melbourne will have millions to blow us out of the water on. So its not money.

So its not going to be a high price in trade.

Yeah nah Serong and Baeshaw aren’t big goals kickers but a fit Young will help with that… Aslo, I know he’s not the big bodied mid everyone is craving and he’s been pigeon holed into a HBF but…. Copper Simpson was a line breaking, attacking goal kicking mid when he was drafted his highlights he moved like a cross between Boomer Harvey and Chris Judd….
Cooper hasn't found his position yet. He's in development, and time in the backline is really useful for that.

But surely he is the best candidate to understudy the injury prone Switkowski.

I'd love to see the pair of them scything around the forward half of the ground.

I'm confident pick 29 won't be enough and I don't think you'd find a non-Freo fan that'd disagree with me.

Actually think trading our later picks up into the mid 20s could get it done but pick 29 is probably mid-30s post FA compensation picks.

I say this literally every year. A player being uncontracted doesn't mean you need to pay way less than the player is worth, especially when West Coast finished last effectively eliminating the even 1% we could walk McVee into the draft.

I think the biggest factor in this trade for me is the fact that Melb have only offered Judd 2 years.
-and I’d bet my left nut it’s not on big coin either.

they can then hardly go round demanding a first rounder (it’s Melb of course they will tho)and all the reasons that that type of demand would usually come accompanied by - “is required player… we value him highly…don’t want to lose him”
Etc

Would amount to total cognitive dissonance on their part

Think the Blake acres deal but in reverse for us

Its up to the club trading for the player to actually be difficult - see Geelong and Adelaide. Melbourne offered only 2 years, Freo could get him for pick 29 if they wanted to be obstinate enough. Im pretty sure there's already been a neutral on the McVee thread say our 2nd or future 2nd.

So our second this year and next for their second next year and McVee

I fully expect us to pay more but I’m not seeing how this should be much different to the Blake acres situation-

Melbourne are only offering mcvee 2 years -highly likely on a lot less than what we’re offering , even taking into consideration the longer contract

How can they then turn around and expect a first rounder when it’s pretty obvious they themselves don’t rate the bloke that Highly??

Reddit consensus seemed to be pick 29 (Thats non Freo fans)

I know you rate him much higher but he is a rookie pick coming off an average season.

29 is fair

I have absolutely no faith in Walls trading ability though so I think we pay overs

Actually see this working out a bit like the Jordan Clark trade tbh. The fact he went as a rookie is irrelevant.

Do I think we'll trade pick 11 for him? No.

Do I think we'll need to put a little bit of extra work into pick 29 to get him? Absolutely.

The pick we ultimately traded for Clark was acquired by upgrading our original second rounder. I think it's ultimately somewhere in the low 20s and tbh I'd package up all picks we have bar pick 11 to get McVee if necessary.
