Was confirmed by the AFL on the footy show this morning. Barrett confirmed he had the tests and was cleared to return to the field but was not required.
Has that ever happened before, choosing not to play a player for a full quarter and bit if they’re not injured? There’s such a big made when teams are down a rotation.

Seems like smoke and mirrors from Brisbane, or ducks and drakes, or cloak and daggers or whatever the f it is. Shifty.

It is a weird one but if he had the test and failed there is a protocol they have to follow and I believe restrictions on what he can do. Getting on the beers and being at all the post game events wouldn’t be likely.

If he ever retired in the future from concussion he would have a decent argument to get even more of a pay out if Lions just tried to hide it and let him go about his business to get a better draft pick.

I think if he passed the test with his history and with the current score it would’ve fallen into the if in doubt sit him out category. See what testing comes up with this week and do they even have to report it if he fails being no games coming up.

Twomey says Starcevich has had “multiple concussions” in the last 18 months. SEN says he’s had 4 concussions in just over a year. He had to sit out 3 months because of concussion earlier this year.

And yet the club has reportedly offered him terms valued at an average of $900k per year for 6 years. If that’s the case our list management team should probably sit out 3 months themselves because their decision-making indicates declined cognitive function.

It was a fairly decent hit to the head

If it turns out he wasn't concussed and doesn't display any delayed symptoms, isnt that actually quite a good sign for him?

Wait and see how it all plays out. The club will do its due diligence despite what some on here think

He went down and stayed down on one knee for quite a while. Direct hit to the head.

But in the middle of a GF the doc asked some questions and he allegedly passed the test.

A tad scepticle on that.

Wouldn’t that only benefit those clubs further? If Brisbane demand some ridiculous pick for Starcevich, WC can tell them to get f***ed and that we’ll pick Annable at 1. This gives us leverage over a club that has draft concessions that we don’t, despite them being premiers and us being spooners.
Not really. The point would be to eliminate the capacity for teams to bid on the player. This anonymous system ensures all 18 clubs have an agreed value on the player and then the AFL tell the club, player X is seen as pick 4.7. now the club has to agree to pay the premium and find 2 picks to make the points, or he goes into o the open draft.

I think we should also keep an eye on Will Graham. He’s only 20, a big-bodied inside mid. I know he had an injury this year and some family tragedy to deal with, but last season he put up some solid VFL numbers and did okay at AFL level for a first-year player. With the Suns’ upcoming academy talent coming through, he might get pushed further down the pecking order.

Gold Coast’s bio highlights his athleticism and out of contract next year:

“His speed and power shone through at the national Draft Combine where he was ranked second in the 20m sprint (2.92 seconds) and standing vertical jump (78cm), as well as third in the running vertical jump (95cm), confirming his elite athletic profile. Graham is contracted until the end of 2026.”

Suns still looking at how they can land Curnow but keep Walter and Ried.

They likely get the draft capital an d retain enough picks to pay for bids.

And looking at JUH.

That forward line is looking pretty tall, someone wont be getting a game.

Changing the topic from Starcevich...

Anyone know the situation with Ned Moyle? He's playing backup behind Witts, but when he's the primary ruck, he regularly gets 30-40 hitouts and 15+ possessions. Only played three games this year. He's probably biding his time, waiting for Witts to retire.

The AFL concussion test is the team doctor 'just asking some questions'?

I don't know what's actually involved but with all that's happening with concussions and the legalities surrounding it, I think even you would agree there's probably more to it than that.
You seriously think it's akin to a sobriety test from the 80s/90s?

The only way they could do that is to flick 7 + 8 to us. The two problems with this are that Carlton want players, not picks, and they would effectively be giving up on Petracca, assuming that news is real.

Precisely. He’s coming into perfect age ahead of a long period of contending. Witts likely to retire end of 2026 or 2027 and I suspect will be rested for a number of games in that period.

GCS and Moyle himself have repeatedly said he won’t leave. We can probably get Knobel for a decent contract if his foot has improved.

Sen reporting it’s a four year deal not six.

The six years came from Ryan Daniels who said “up to 6 years” so presumably there’s triggers for two additional years after the initial four

Like it basically is. Cant do an MRI on the sidelines and unless its really bad it wouldn't show anything acutely anyway. Its basically just questions vs baseline and asking about any symptoms. Very easy to pass if only a minor concussion.

Starcevich wasn't concussed when he missed THREE ****ING MONTHS either.

Brisbane had top 4 in the bag, why would they risk him?
No one had top 4 sewn up til the last round

Lions and others could've finished as high as 2nd or as low as 9th depending on results

Would he?

We will never know though.

Seems most of your opinions are based on what could have happened or might happen.

Not what has happened.
Draiper was fit and played well in the sanfl. He just couldn't break into the midfield of the team that finished top of the ladder .
I'm sure he wouldn't have had that problem with us

And yet Ashcroft x 2 who were top 3 picks played straight away. In a contending team and are now both premiership players.

That's the quality of a top 3 pick expected.

Draper didn't show anything close to that. Which would indicate he isn't as good.

And not worth using a top 3 pick on.

Far out! So many sooks on here regarding Starcevich.

He’s a quality, best 22 player who potentially wants to come to us. Yes, his concussion history carry’s risk but let’s look at the facts for a second.

1. The reported contract is between 4-6 years but no one knows for certain.

2. The reported amount is between 750-900k a season but no one knows for certain.

3. There was no concussion yesterday and despite the conspiracy theories a doctor is not going to put his medical license at risk for the benefit of a draft pick for the Lions.

4. Clearly the Eagles will conduct a medical before trading for him and I’m also certain we are well aware of his history and will be mindful of it.

5. We have so much cap to spend and not enough players to front end contracts for. We can afford to go after Starcevich, front load his contract AND if he does have to medically retire early due to the AFL protocols then his contract will have a large portion of it paid outside the cap for 3 years once retired. It’s not as big a risk as some are proposing.

6. Simmo said players want to play with Harley but winning one game has hurt that. You know how we can turn it around? BY WINNING. Starcevich moves the needle and we need to keep moving the needle. The more we do, the more players we’ll attract. It’s not that hard to work it out guys.

7. We complain about Duggan and Cole all year being sub standard defenders so it’s amusing when we talk about bringing in another defender who is clearly a step above them and yet we complain more?
Tell me how do you think Duggan and Cole would have gone on Danger?

8. Starcevich has a skill set that may translate well to other positions. He’s fast, a good kick and hard as nails. People seem to think because Brisbane didn’t play him elsewhere he’s not capable but they have a stacked team. They didn’t need to play him elsewhere. They needed a tough as nails lockdown defender and he delivered for them.

9. We have no idea what we will trade for him, we don’t know if it will be part of a larger package with more players, we don’t know if we will have a pick from the AFL that we must trade, right now we know bugger all.

What I do know for certain is he was brilliant yesterday, would improve our side, didn’t have a concussion, was put in cotton wool yesterday once the result was sewn up and we have zero clue how much the contract is for, how long it is for and what we’d need to trade to secure him.

All I’m focusing on right now is hoping he says he will come. We can work out the rest after that.
I think ginbey wouldve gone fine on dangerfield, probably wouldve played out the game too
