Could Doedee become the Cal once he’s had a preseason? I see a few similarities in their game and I think Doedee could thrive as a shutdown forward. Dunno though, it’s a big ask given he’s so far back.

I had Doedee for Lester (assuming he's retiring after 2026) and Bruce for Cal.Could Doedee become the Cal once he’s had a preseason? I see a few similarities in their game and I think Doedee could thrive as a shutdown forward. Dunno though, it’s a big ask given he’s so far back.
I just think you called half the viewing public of sports events in Australia as unintelligent. The NRL State of Origin each year rates 1, 2, 3, in the top 10 TV viewing audience of all shows on TV, that is Australia wide and is a lot of people to say are not intelligent. Yes, AFL has come a long way in the SE corner of Queensland, but you can't dilute the northern academies because the AFL thinks it has a foothold that will last.People complaining about the now declining news covereage in Brisbane should have see it in the 70"s when I first moved here. It was non-existent. Zip. My son and I used t trundle out to Chelmer to catch the occasional AFL game, TV? Forget it.
A reflection, if I may. Our game here has made tremendous progress. Unbelievable really. It will never be as big as down South, where the vibe in Melbourne over the past few days when we were there was terrific. We are getting a fair crack in what is still a NRL town. Simple as that. But we are making progress.
As yourself this. What game would you want your kid to play. NRL which is dominated in large by very large Pacific Islanders, and where the main object of the game is to belt the crap out of the opposition? Or AFL where the main object is to score. Don't get me wrong, I like NRL but any intelligent observer would agree it's not a patch on what is our only indigenous game. As the ratings show.

agreed was not complaining per se as I have lived here for 30 years, but very keen for the Victorians to understand that though great progress is being made, there is still much to do to get the whole state behind us.People complaining about the now declining news covereage in Brisbane should have see it in the 70"s when I first moved here. Bruce wouldn't be being paid much but he's a very hard worker determined to improve and now that he's had a taste of the big stage the hope is that he keeps developing as rapidly as he has over the last year.
It's a big tick that his disposal is generally on the better side of good and his decision making on the better side of adequate and improving.

Where have I seen this story before
Does open up a great opportunity for someone else though and while it’ll be hard to find a exact replacement we have got multiple guys on the list that have the ability to stand up and grow into that position.
Don’t want to downplay Cal because he’s been a great player for us but he didn’t have a great season and wasn’t all that impactful, albeit had a really good GF
I like getting Fletcher up the ground but not as much as a defensive forward. I’d like him to have a license to roam wherever he wants as a high half forward then he could be the late quarter swing man behind the ball.Perhaps that’s why Fletcher has had some time down back? He might move forward into Ah Chee’s spot when Answerth and Coleman come back?

Chelmer? the Western Bulldogs played there and were a great team but now have gone but sherwood right next door lives on.
AFL GF is now the #1 top rated show of 2025. 4.08 M (up from 4.02 M in 2024)

NRL grand final usually rates less than origin. Last year's only had 3.4m, which is almost 700k less than the AFL GFNRL GF to come, will be interesting to compare. For the first time in five years, Penrith isn't there.
West Coast has made inquiries about the severity of Brandon Starcevich’s fourth concussion in 14 months and would be protected by a series of games-based triggers if he joined the club on a long-term deal.PLAYERCARDSTART37Brandon Starcevich

Starcevich looks likely to take up the Eagles deal in the next week and only the prospect of a late-minute change of mind would see him remaining at the Lions.
Us normal plebs aren’t earning $500k though in the first place. And if someone is paying him $650k/yr? I don’t know many people who wouldn’t take an extra $300k over two years for doing the same job, or at least be seriously tempted to. It’s not the same thing as us normal plebs moving jobs for an extra $15k.
Imo, the only one completely indispensable is Harris.Out of our current squad who is non negotiable (we can't lose?)
Harris Andrews
Lachie Neale
Zac Bailey
Hugh Mcclugage
Jasper Fletcher
Will Ashcroft
Levi Aschroft
Kai Lohman
Logan Morris
Josh Dunkley
Jarrod Berry
Dayne Zorko
Darcy Fort
Darcy Gardiner
Ryan Lester
Bruce Reville
Jack Payne
Darcy Wilmott
Is this the core to take us forward?
Wouldn’t wanna give Cam up either, and I can’t see him on the list. He may never be a 4 quarter player, but he’s a big moment player, and when you’re competing for flags those guys are worth even more. Also seems like one of the most liked amongst the boys. Wouldn’t wanna lose that.Out of our current squad who is non negotiable (we can't lose?)

I’m currently in Vietnam. It’s a bit wet here and not the best internet connection at times. Plus the 3 hour time difference.briztoon I am softening them up on the D&T board for you to swoop in and make some deals.
There’d be more than a few players who probably have concerns about their post career earning capacity.Us normal plebs aren’t earning $500k though in the first place.
I’d like to think I’d accept half a mill a year, and be trying for a 3 peat where I currently live, if money is the only motivator for relocation.
