Can we poach any Queensland talent now that their youth participation rates exceeds SA and WA?
Not if they are any good. They will match any bid and probably try and bury one or two of them.

We have a number of ex Magpie champions and average players who live in Queensland. If they have had sons later in life, ie late 30's to late 40's, then that might be our best chance.

No Panther 5-peat. Storm will have two extra days rest than the Broncos after the NRL decided to split their prelims over Friday and Sunday.
Yeah they didn’t want to go up against the AFL GF.
Watching today’s game it was an exciting Finnish with all the crowd involved.
For me it was a much better spectacle than what I have seen all year with AFL.

It was a genuine epic but my goodness outside of SoO madness NRL can be epically boring a lot of the time.

Have a look at who Brisbane were able to cover for this September

1) Jack Payne - CHB - played in 2024 Flag, ACL Rd 15 this year - played 13 games in 2025 / 81 total career
2) Eric Hipwood - CHF - played in 2023 GF and 2024 Flag, ACL Rd 24 this year - 22/199
3) Jarrod Berry - mid - played in 2023 GF and 2024 Flag, dislocated shoulder PF against Collingwood - 24/184
4) Noah Answerth - back pocket - played in 2024 flag, tore his Achilles tendon in Rd 19 - 17/88
5) Kiddy Coleman - HBF - played in 2023 GF, their best kick, only played 1 game in 2024 did his ACL in Rd 1, then this year also only played 1 game, Rd 11 - a couple of weeks later does his quad at training, out for 5 weeks, plays a VFL game and further complications, out for the year. - 1/66
6) Lincoln McCarthy - forward pocket - played in 2023 GF, ACL Rd 8 in 2024, then does it again at start of March this year. 0/151

Tom Doedee had a season ending wrist injury from Rd 22.

2024 GF was similar but it was 3 ACL's and one shoulder

1) Coleman see above
2) McCarthy see above
3) Darcy Gardiner - Played in 2023 GF, tore his ACL Rd 9
4)Oscar McInerney - Played in 2023 GF, dislocated shoulder in PF v Geelong

Had 2 other ACL injuries Tom Doedee and Kalin Lane.

As I said before, we have to copy some of their medical and fitness programs. There would have been a lot of players in their last 3 GFs who took the field with injury concerns, not just Lachie Neale.

Plus their kids ie U/22's have been fantastic.

2024 GF Outs Payne, Hipwood, Berry, Answerth, (all inj) McKenna, Daniher (retired)

2025 GF Ins... Gardiner, Gallop, L. Aschroft, Reville, Marshall, McInerney

Brisbane fill their list with footballers who can football as a first priorty and not too many speculative/development picks.

Would be nice if we can identify and develop players from the age of 13 that has priority to stay with the club during drafting age.

Meanwhile we are reliant on other footballing programs to produce talent that we can only select from a nationwide pool. No wonder Will Ashcroft is already at Dustin Martin levels of success.

Time for the AFL to remove the shackles and allow all AFL clubs to setup the same systems.

What is the Brisbane Lions Academy

It started in 2010 to help develop young AFL and AFLW talent in Queensland, NSW, and the ACT.

The Academy works across three levels by age:

Level 1 (Academy Fundamentals) – ages 13-14

Level 2 (Development) – ages 15-16

Level 3 (Performance) – ages 17-18, preparing for the AFL or AFLW draft.

As of recent years, there are ~535 athletes in the program, supported by full-time, part-time and volunteer staff.

That and 3 year base salary for already developed players.

Maybe the AFL can scrap draft contracts for Academy listed players and have them go for open market value.

It’s been confirmed that Cameron sustained a broken arm during the game. And it looked the arm was pretty damaged by the way he was carrying his arm.

But Scott refused to sub him. Not sure what the doctors were telling him.

Reminded me of the time Goodwin kept playing Petracca even after he was hit hard during a game. Later confirmed he sustained four broken ribs, a punctured lung and a lacerated spleen.

Coaches are meant to be ruthless but players are owed a duty of care. The AFL will probably sweep this under the carpet.

Dare say Cameron was thinking he was doing the team thing trying to play with one arm, when in fact he did the selfish thing in not putting his one good arm up and saying "i'm done" to allow Martin to be subbed on much earlier.

It was clear to me that the arm was broken and said as much at home and I have no medical training whatsoever.
After seeing Aliir concussed and sent back out on the ground, I'll believe anything.

There's a not so subtle line between playing through pain and playing with an obviously broken limb that any normal person would be going straight to an ED with. It was a very bad look for the game.

not only that, but sooky scott spent half his press conference whinging about the sub rule.. why? you had an obviously injured player, then refused to sub them. that's exactly what the rule is for.

Blind Freddie could see he was fk’d.
He should have been taken from the ground straight away.
Can’t understand WTF Geelong was thinking at the time.

Eh **** Geelong. Game really went to shit for them when they subbed off Stanley instead of Cameron.

No lessons here for the supporters on this board who are DOOMERS on the squad.

^^^move to "Chasing Stability" thread ;)

I don't think any of those needed deleting really. Shitty posts? Absolutely, worthy of outrange? Nah.
Very poor taste, tacky, but I can’t say I was outraged. I wouldn’t be too impressed if any of our guys posted them though.
