Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I posted maybe 5-6 weeks ago that Charlie wanted to go to the Cats and that was a fact.
It gained no traction but Ed was not a massive fan of how their opinions and suggestions were so disregarded in his playing days.
Not sure he cares too much if Charlie leaves.

IF he's disgruntled with the football club would be far from alone of his peers to have those feelings.

Some of the comments I've seen made on open socials by particular players force me to bite my tongue and fingers and not to lash out and say something like ",.... But the club dragged you to a milestone ..." or similar.

Not many happy recent ex-Carlton players and for some they are as much to blame as the club.

Where has all this hate for Charlie Curnow come from?

Limited success to fall back on. Reunions help foster the goodwill.

Gibbsy is one of the better ones isn’t he, and he finished up at another club.
Eddie Betts is always grateful.

Where has all this hate for Charlie Curnow come from?
I don’t think it is hatred, it is more based on his bad attitude and lack of consideration for Carlton and the debt he owes to the club for developing him.

Charlie is a franchise player and to flaunt himself on the market like this tastes of a poor attitude and immaturity.

If that is who he is, then it’s best he finds someone to over pay him.

Geelong will need to choose between Marshall & Curnow, they simply do not have trade assets available to do both.
Marshall makes much more sense for them, and l am sure they will be able to do this deal but not Curnow.
They are not giving up Holmes & Dempsey & SDK or O'Sullivan to any club.
Their 1st pick approx 20 will go to St Kilda probably need to add something to this for Marshall.

Id argue Curnow makes more sense for them.

The club isn't perfect, far from it in fact, however, we've had just about the most unaccountable playing list for the longest time now (bar a few exceptions)

Absolutely no accountability and a bunch of sooks.

Doesn't change the fact that the deal needs to he extremely good for us. A deadline doesn't change that. I'm keeping an unhappy Curnow rather than gifting a club a flag.

I genuinely don't understand this stance. At all. I think it's becoming clearer by the day that Charlie has zero interest in remaining at Carlton for another second. Let alone 4 more years.

Regarding a Charlie trade I’d play it like this:
Assume the answer is no. If you do want us to entertain the idea of a trade for Charlie then we will only listen to 1 trade scenario from each club so make the offer your very best.
We want a full list of the players you are willing to trade and you the club is to organise 60 minutes with the players that we choose from your list so that we can determine if they would be a good fit for the Carlton Football Club.
This deal is open to all 17 other clubs. The best offers for us will be discussed. If we choose that an offer or offers are sufficient then we will present them to Charlie and he can determine if he is willing to go to that club/s. If not he is welcome to see out the remaining 4 years of his contract. We understand if this process is too hard for your club and we will not be offended if you choose to not make a bid for Charlie.
Again we are happy to open our arms and welcome Charlie back to the football club for the first day of preseason.
Kind regards
Carlton Football Club.

Silliness.

The club holds all the power here. He can go if a significant trade offer is made.

This fanbase has been way too soft on this group of players for way too long. Now it's to the point where criticism is viewed as "hatred."

It's why Charlie is who he is now.

Someone who is more focused on his clothing brand, seltzer brand, endorsement deals, and increasing his public profile more than he is on winning a premiership.

The sooner we have less of this as part of the culture of the club the sooner we will start to become a serious team.

The way that Cripps worded it, it was definitely the club's position, not his personal one.

The term "there's a belief" was supposed to be indicative of a club belief.

None of his answer smelt or had any selfish vibes.
I’ve never heard the club say that the position is open though.

I don’t buy that we don’t have other options, Walsh or Weitering would both be more than capable.

People won't want to hear it, but I think we could bend on the whole A-Grader thing.

I could see us doing the deal with Sydney for Pick 9, F1 and Hayward for example. He is a good player so the club can argue they haven't backed down on the A-Grader thing even though most wouldn't put him in that category. Can then use the picks along with our compo to get a top 5 pick ahead of Dean bid, points for Dean + Ison, another 1st next year which we'll need for Walker and to grab all the other guys we are targeting which will improve our depth.

I can't see us holding Curnow if we get a good offer. It's all theatre. He's 29 with a history of knee issues. His attitude is garbage. He wants out. And with the likely bid matching changes we probably don't get Walker if we can't get an F1. Still a possibly by trading 9 if we don't trade Curnow but then it becomes real tough to match Dean/Ison bids and get the other players we are targeting.

So, we trade out Curnow. Get a top draft talent to develop alongside Dean and Ison. Hayward who is a really good player. An F1 for Walker and a bunch of other guys who while not exciting can play roles in our team. I could live with that.
I agree with this … I also don’t think we get an A grader … the trade will be fair … 2 first rounders and some B grader …get a decent kid this year .. more points for walker and rid of lazy curnow… kings ransom ain’t happening

Id argue Curnow makes more sense for them.
l would suggest they can get the Marshall deal done, can't see the same with Curnow so on this basis they can bring a good player without losing a gun player.

A clear choice between what is a achievable deal and what is not, similar to Mackie's comments last night.

Curnow + future 2nd for
Haywood, Florent 2025 first and 2026 first should be the deal imo.
Would hope we'd be able to keep the future 2nd given we'd be keeping their cap under control.
Deep down we know the Charlie deal could unlock numerous options for us. As an example could help us get Walker next year along with Top 3 pick this year and a couple of good role players. Not to mention room in SC to go after Free Agents over next few years
Would the Swans deal look as above, if not: better or worse?

You're not stating it there, but top 3 pick while only giving up Sydney's pick 9 - to become 11 or more before bids eat/create picks - in the first round would be fantastic. Might require the aforementioned future 2nd.

You dont find what Dangerfield said about going to Charlie's bathhouse smug/arrogant and he comes across as having half a brain. Smith was just adding more fuel to the fire to ruffle feathers as Dangerfield did.
I can’t see how anything that is said changes our stance. We either get an offer we can’t refuse (which is unlikely) or he stays. All the other carry on by the Cats, media and CC’s mgt is irrelevant.

I'll be among the first to criticise the club when and where I feel it's merited.

Not only no accountability but extremely self serving including players who were once considered "club players "

Silliness.
Other clubs are happy to chat with our contracted players. Why shouldn’t we talk to theirs? If Charlie is desperate to get out maybe he would play for west coast or maybe it proves that all his excuses are bullshit and he just wants more $ and to live his care free lazy lifestyle.

Im not sure that is wrong to be honest. ;)

It's reasonable on the surface.

The reality is that he's saying to it so that when we ask for a reasonable price for us to trade him, they can run to the media and say Carlton's not being reasonable with our expectations.
