Eagles received their compo package:

* end-of-first-round pick (currently Pick 19), but will likely end up at around Pick 21 or 22 once Band 1 FA compensation picks are handed out (they also don't have to trade it like North had to)

* 4 extra rookie spots for the next three seasons, but the provision could change if the Eagles make a sudden surge up the ladder.

What will happen now with Starcevich? Lions will get that pick after WCE match?

The backlash against northern academies following the GF win is predictable but what I don't get is how destination clubs never face any restrictions. Geelong can load up on Bailey (& Isaac) Smith, Cameron, Dangerfield, the Pies with Bobby Hill, Tom Mitchell, Perryman, Houston while Kangaroos and North Melbourne struggle to attract anyone.

If a club makes top four three times in a row maybe they should be banned from trading in listed players for a year or two? This isn't a specific proposal so much as saying if I were a small club I'd be trying to put the clamps on destination clubs rather than taking aim at academies which at least grow the player pool. We talk about equalisation but one of the big inequalities is being able to attract top talent.

Melican, soft tissue concerns, McCartin, concussion concerns, only experienced back up is Hamling and then the three untried talls.

Greatest need IMO is not a Curnow or a Petracca type player, but a top quality, durable KPD;

All 3 players would likely require similar contracts ($ss and length).

Really hope we would at least ask the question of Wilkie.

EDIT

oh well, still hoped we asked.

Well folks, we have done our due diligence on JUH and it’s a no from the Swans. Actually it’s been a no for a while but just had it confirmed.

Bonz are you hearing the same ?

Geelong into Sam Walsh

Mod Edit: Rumour comes from trade radio and relates to his free agency next season, not a trade this year. Again stop posting unsourced rumours.

Interesting that’s not what I heard (not saying I’m correct).

I heard that when Curnow became a possibility all internal discussions about JUH was on absolute back burner. Less “no” and more “not priority” was the vibe I got.

Hamling, if fit, should be able to take the 3rd spot from Rampe.

Given age, neither should be considered when it comes to drafting a KPD.

Takes us to 7 KPDs which has been too few in recent years, plus Rampe can play on smalls in the VFL, so need another, even a mature ager who is seen as senior potential beyond 2026.

Can understand a few rookie spots earmarked for delisted FAs or bringing in mature agers from state leagues. But draft picks are nonsense.
