We'll gladly let you keep him. Eagles fans first preference

All jokes aside i think best thing for him really is a 2 year deal to get his value back up

How are you letting us keep him when you never had him in the first place? Interesting take :tearsofjoy:

5 WA players plus our first round pick. It fits into WCE list strategy of recruiting WA players. It’s a very reasonable offer.
It doesn’t matter how many rotten apples you offer me, I’m not going to swap them for my HJ’s whopper.

Interesting angle, but parking what Starcevich will do on the side - do we need player consent to lodge an offer? any offer for that matter? I know player has the right to reject at the end of the day.

If player consent isn't needed to "lodge" one then you can extrapolate another grey area - which is Brisbane asking "any" club out there to lodge an offer for Starcevich and just match it. Starcevich can reject it but RFA rules get triggered and he can go via national draft to West Coast if they're still keen and if he lasts till pick 19/20.
Two can play at this game. Freo can offer Starcevich close to the WC contract which Brisbane can’t afford so he walks to Freo. Freo then trades him to WC for pick 33 & Starcevich gets his WC bonus pay on top once the final deal is done.

But you might not have pick 33 next year

No you can't- there is this little thing of Starcevich accepting or rejecting the offer for you to even play. It's just West Coast and us that hes considering so you can step aside and go play in your own sandpit.

Also what makes you think you have bigger cap space than us? We have Ah Chee moving, Big O may retire; Starcevich offer $ set aside already, may be one player above a million and big group taking unders. We'll be fine to match your pesky offer don't worry.

I heard he wants to stay with Brisbane

Well of course he does. It’s purely financial. I love the guy but with him staring down the barrel of medical retirement you can’t blame him for chasing a bag from a desperate club.

I’d be stoked if he stays on a shorter and/or cheaper deal.

Did you see what far fetched idea I replied to? Another club can’t just put in an offer without the player agreeing to it.

My scenario at least involved Starcevich getting to the contract he wanted eventually. Your getting 2 players in on big money, must be close to 2m per season with an older team and some young stars needing a big pay day. Your cap will be bursting or there is rorting going on. Brisbane are not in the ball park of WC’s offer since you’ve been up for too long and have bigger fish to fry.

WEST Coast's end-of-first round pick handed to them by the AFL is expected to be put on the table in a trade for Brandon Starcevich if the Eagles proceed with their interest in the Brisbane premiership gun.

West Coast: We need some assistance

AFL: You'll just mess it up

WC: No, honest we've learnt .....draft is your friend

AFL: OK here is an end of round 1 pick

WC: Now let's see .....Cal says there are some solid players at that pick .....

AFL: Click

WC: Get Brisbane on the line .....Starcevich is coming on board .....actually you're right he does have that risk of never playing again......front load that 5 year deal.

Surely that’s nowhere near enough for a two-time premiership player who’s arguably the best in his role across the league.

Starce’s value goes well beyond a token gesture. That gifted first-rounder to West Coast should be the bare minimum starting point. Realistically, you'd expect some sweeteners, maybe a future second-round pick or even a player heading Brisbane’s way.

Let’s not forget we’re handing the Eagles pick 2, which they could easily split into multiple first round selections. That kind of leverage doesn’t come cheap, and it certainly shouldn’t be squandered.

He's one knock away from a forced retirement.

Take your free pick 19 and use it to bid on your next academy players
