Depends on whether your nature is a pessimist or optimistWe clearly saw that midfield couldn’t stand up in finals, who’s to say that’ll be much different in the coming years. Draper didn’t exactly light the world on fire, and we just can’t rely on guys beyond pick 20 becoming stars
We are kinda desperate for midfield star power
Which is fine and what he should be doing. Sucked in to whoever agrees to pay him big coin until he's 35.I called it the other day.
He was always going to try and get a better deal.

You're correct, our midfield didn't stand-up .....the pessimist says they're all dud players ....the optimist says, change some of the parts with players already on the list ....plus the Finals experience will benefit them
The pessimist says, Finals experience means nothing .....the optimist says, history says you need to have experienced Finals pressure to learn

Oliver would cost less than half of Petracca in terms of salary and trade capital. They’re both risks because of their age profile but I’d rather go for the lower risk.Oliver is only a year younger than Petracca, and at least Petracca played decent footy this season.
Only postive thing about Oliver is he is cheaper contract wise now.
That is Dan Hannerbry esqueJFC no wonder we walked away, he's very good when fit and firing but that's ridiculous given the bounty we would have had to give up trade wise
5 years for a 30 year old on top dollars what could possibly go wrong
Maybe, just maybe the list management, coaches and selectors might even give Edwards a try in the role Hamish and his crew said they picked him for i.e. mid/forward. I will totally lose it if he is seen training with the defenders this pre-season.We clearly saw that midfield couldn’t stand up in finals, who’s to say that’ll be much different in the coming years. It would have to be Clarry knocking it back, GWS surely think it will work or they wouldn’t be perusing him I guess.Yes I agree ...if a Club smells a bargain, they'll try & make it work
But, as you well know ...even this year, many were still & are, questioning how the Darcy / Jackson pairing would work at FREO ....that was a bargain / opportunity buy by FREO ...that still has many ????
Partly .....but I'm hopeful Taylor, Curtin, Draper, can take another step next season & play Midfield ....can Rachelle play more midfield with Rankine?Or realist.
Our midfield is nowhere near it, and we need to change it to improve it.
I see your strategy is "organic growth"?
Bring in another middling season.
Had him on a platter with zero competition to know pricking the ears of othersIf Viva la Mattner ‘s source is correct about our interest in Oliver, have we screwed the pooch by not committing to him sooner ?
I know of one such small forward available in this draft though he's more Pickett than the other two.Partly .....but I'm hopeful Taylor, Curtin, Draper, can take another step next season & play Midfield ....can Rachelle play more midfield with Rankine?
Is that being realistic ....IMO that's not a huge stretch
My POV, is we desperately need a QUICK small fwd ...that has to be a priority ...a Betts, Darcy Jones, Pickett type player

We won't know why or what.Happy to walk back my claims that we only walked away from the deal after Petracca chose Gold Coast if he joins Gold Coast on a 5 year deal

Absolutely !!!You watched this year's finals and your conclusion is we need a quick small forward?

And if he doesn't, we will be even more stuffed then Melbourne's current salary cap management.Offer the NWM money to Humphrey. About to explode, this kid.
Absolutely !!!
It's all about the flow-on affects on team dynamics .....
‘Organic growth’ hasn’t ended in a premiership for us this century, yet
He wouldve already been getting a payrise just moving here on comparative cost of living (although that gap is reducing).Just doing some light research.
Collins - on about 750k
Rioli - about 800k
Miller - about 850k
Anderson - about 1 million
King - about 1 million
Rowell - about 1.2 million
Petracca - about 1.2 million
Obviously deals can be front/back ended, but basically the Suns will have four (!) million dollar players on their list next year.
Edit: Forgot Mac Andrew lol. Which is about 1.3 million. So that makes five million dollar players.
We absolutely do if Rachele and Rankine are to spend more minutes in the midfield, especially one that applies defensive pressure on steroids with us seemingly likely to play Tex forward every game. You watched this year's finals and your conclusion is we need a quick small forward?
