He shouldn't be but just like other GWV Rebels Joel Freijah and Kai Lohmann who I rated from a long way out way way higher than the general consensus on here and in the media after seeing every game they played for the Rebels he doesn't seem to be getting the fanfare he deserves. Him I would trade up for given it would unlikely take too much collateral.

I can see why the Crows may have pulled out. Our first attempt to gain Gibbs was a long process that may have been better spent on other trades and contracts.
No matter what you may think about the Jarryd Lyons trade at the time, (Lyons, 24, and pick No.71 for picks 43 and 67) it was a debacle that may have been avoided had we not taken our eye off the ball.

I think we would have been banging our heads against a wall with Melbourne. Now that is Gold Coast's problem.

Burgess leaving had a lot to do with it. The day Burgess left i was told we can forget about Petracca now. Christian would call Darren every week.

If he goes to Gold Coast on a five year deal, fair enough, we were outbid with a high offer, weren't prepared to go there and walked away

If he wanted 5 years from Adelaide but signs for 4 at Gold Coast it's a pretty clear sign he chose them specifically and forced our hand

Yeah, I think you missed the part where the premise was on the basis of a contract breach by the club (ie Melbourne's mishandling of Petracca's medical issue).

Not a single drop. And that wouldn’t be a contract breach anyway. Not without Brand Petracca being willing to blow million$ on a failed lawsuit. At the end of the day, it’s Petracca’s decision to return to the field. Messi is and only provide advice based on the information received by the player. Sure, there’s an argument that could be had with respect to damages, but it would be irrelevant to the overall contract and Melbourne’s rights to retain the player in the event that a deal can’t be agreed to.

Sure, but at the time he was only 26 and a year off winning a best and fairest.

Silvagni is just a player.

We were awful that year and the AFL couldn’t even give us a little boost like they have with other struggling clubs.

Soligo has basically been the same player for two seasons now, not sure if he has any growth left in him

Player development has a habit of being weird. I doubt anyone would be keen to bet on Rowell being a Brownlow medalist in year 6 off his first 4 years of production (where he looked like a guy who could win clearances and not much else).

Seeing how much his year cratered after Matt Crouch's injury, I could see this one being a blip due to a mix of a role change/wear and tear.

So if we're not paying $1.2M to Petracca next year, who are we paying that spare salary to?

Probably some contract extensions, but likely keeping most of it unspent. Seeing the whole loading aspect to the salary cap where unspent money one year can be used to increase your cap (temporarily) in the next year.

Hard to see that occurring with Geoff Walsh at the helm ....he'd still have some BRIS alliance at the front of his thinking

but sometimes you need to take a risk... but there's a reason no one wants a 28yo brownlow medalist bull mid.

oh if only we had an academy, father son A grade mids and 3rd party deals that extend past free hiluxs and radio segments.

I don't think the risk is high with oliver. They're paying half his salary. It's almost a free hit.
