True, but I'm not sure how much value will be placed on 2027 picks given that's likely to be the Tassie draft
My point being is unless you're working under the assumption GC will screw us on our contracted player while not budging on their own contracted player they shouldn't get everything and give up nothing

Again I don't see Humphrey picking us, but if the kid wants to come to Victoria, it's the easiest trade to get done and he probably gets the most money from us as well. Wouldn't be surprised if we offered him like 1.5 for 7 years or something

Or the finishing position of the Suns with adding in Petracca and 2 top 5 draftees this year, they’ll be aiming for top 4

Think the key difference is that we're open to Trac going, whereas they're not open to Humphrey going.

I don't doubt that Humphrey is keen on us because we'd be offering huge money and a great role for him. But for Gold Coast, they're in their window now and he's an important cog for them (plus Hardwick absolutely loves him), so I just can't see them agreeing to it.

I'm hoping I'm wrong of course, because turning Trac into Humphrey would be a big win for us.

We literally said he's a required player and we aren't paying a cent of his salary. We held him 2 years in a row, again I don't see us just getting rid of him to be nice especially when we're losing Oliver an McVee.

All this doom and gloom comes from assumptions of us rolling over when as far as I've seen there's no reporting of a concrete offer

Fair enough if that's how you've interpreted it – the 'required player' stuff is just bluster IMO, it seems like we're happy for him to head off as long as we get a decent return. Clean slate for King etc.

Think I'm just being realistic about what's a solid return for a soon-to-be 30-year-old (Picks 6 and 7, with a later pick going back to GC). Don't think we can expect much more than that, even if we'd all rather a player.

On that note, apparently GC are in talks with a few clubs about splitting Pick 6 anyway lol. Gonna be messy

That's my point though, when GC say it about Humphrey it means something, when we say it it's just posturing. You have to make quite a few assumptions to get to that point.

If I had to bet it's more likely we don't get Humphrey or an amazing deal but I'm not gonna jump off a bridge until there's a bit more evidence than a micho meltdown about Lamb

Don't think we're that far apart on this, I just think the 'required player' stuff is a bit different for the two parties given that Trac has tried to leave two years in a row, and GC are in their window, while we're cleaning house and rebuilding.

I'm not freaking out about getting ripped off, just tempering expectations.

I have no expectations, but it's not hard to see Humphrey leaving somewhere when he can't get into the current midfield and they're adding Trac. Something's gotta give somehow. Unless he decides to become the Stevie J of GC and be a mid who becomes the best flanker in the business he'll be keen to get out

Surely they sort Trac deal before looking into any of that.

We should ask for Ainsworth as steak knives and hope he can develop into a Ben Keays type role player.

My mind goes to the Tom Boyd situation. GWS were adamant that Boyd wasn't going to be traded under any circumstances but ultimately did to get Giffen over the line. I'm not holding my breath but Humphrey is still not out of the question.

Think Pick 6 and 7 is probably the best we could expect and wouldn't really be 'unders' for a guy his age, even if it's not completely what we want. Pretty certain GC will leave trade/draft period with all of Trac, Humphrey, Uwland and Patterson
If this eventuates then wow! Gold Coast have an unbelievable list already. Watching a bit of Uwland and Patterson, they both look huge talents. We simply have to go all in on Humphrey or tell GC to f* off.

Pretty sure GC are about to have issues with the salary cap.

Bringing in JUH for over 900k and Petracca well over a million. They traded Jack Bowes and actually gave Geelong a first round pick to get that contract off their books pretty recently.

Flanders and Budarick won’t clear anywhere near the space needed for what’s coming. Humphries helps but they will still need to move on more contracts.

Saying Humphries is required is a bargaining tactic as far as I can tell, he’s a prime asset to move in an obvious need to shed salary.

I used to agree with this but then I also saw a thing that 95% of the NGAs and academy selections were playing AFL from age 5, so basically they weren't actually adding any new talent but just designating it earlier
NGAs support a development pathway for kids from diverse backgrounds - they may play footy from a young age, however who knows how they would have developed without those pathways.

Same for NSW/QLD academies - but what these do is guarantee high quality talent is available for teams in those markets, which is a little different to NGA

No way they re paying JUH 900k

Now that the northern academies are well established and we are seeing players from other states pick QLD as a destination, it’s probably time to start winding back the concessions and require the QLD teams to give up more for an academy player. Soon too. All other clubs will struggle during the establishment phase of Tasmania. There is potential for the competition to be left in a bit of a mess.

Dovaston (aka Temu Wizard) watch...

been watching a few vids of the draft kids lately and i liked these three. we could do with all three to be honest, but in particular Grlj looks like someone i think we'd be interested in to help us to bounce out of that back half and could also inject speed into our midfield.

Needs a vowel. Reminds me of Grgic.

That’s what his contract is at the Dogs and they want it off the books. Gold Coast get him for practically nothing trade wise aside from having to foot the bill.
Dogs are in a position where they can basically sack him next year without pay as he hasn't fulfilled his contractual obligations. Gold Coast are offering him a lifeline so he's going to be on a lot less money.

Doesn't he have 1 year left? I'd imagine they will just give him 2 years (so extend by 1) and up the pay by 100k so it evens out to 500k per year, along with a shitload of behaviour and performance clauses.
