I don't even think Viney is a good influence on our young group - not because of anything malevolent he's ever done, but because he's such a hack these days. I don't see him as setting a high enough standard of game for young players to model themselves on. Ok, he works hard on his fitness, but what has he ever improved skill wise? He's never learned how to hit a lead - or any kind of target. He can't kick long, he can't kick for goal. He doesn't read the play well. He runs like an Energiser bunny with its head chopped off. Throws it on his boot and mostly results in turnovers. Sorry, but I'm not seeing the value. It's one thing to be a well-liked bloke at the club, but he isn't a good enough footballer to result in anything meaningful - at least not anymore. Now he's not even particularly quick. Our young players like Langford, Windsor etc are better role models because they can play. We should have thanked him for his service and shipped him off to North Melbourne.
What load of bull, viney is a good role model, tough professional and a hard worker,

Yeah, it made me sad to include his name in that list, but it's a knock on the contract not the guy. At least Brayshaw, unlike some of these other clowns, was always willing to bust a gut doing whatever role was right for the team.
Heroic third quarter in the grand final when Bont and the Dogs were putting us to the sword. His mark and goal to put us in front is the stuff of legends.

Played wherever role we needed not this crack the ****ing shits and fly to Sydney bullshit

And we paid out at least some of his contract outside of the cap anyway.

Always was and always will be one of the greatest Melbourne Demons of this era.

What is 6 and 7 actually going to be?

Because of they push out too much in a shallow draft I just don't see this is a win. Would rather go all in on Humphrey, than 2 unknowns, particularly after how Jeffo and Tholstrup have turned out.
Expect that, before those picks, there'll be Allen compo, an Annable bid, a Uwland bid and a Patterson bid. So likely 10 and 11 (provided GC uses other picks to match Uwland and Patterson).

Don't mind Mihocek, good player and good kick.

Flanders is disappointing, still don't think moving on Trac & Clarry for picks in a compromised draft is good business.

Suns won't want to give us 6+7, they need at least one of those picks for their three academy guns.

Let's see how it plays out.
Moving on Oliver for nothing is good business. Getting a pick is unbelievable business

Trac I'll wait and see what's actually offered before a meltdown

Some solid kids if we can snare 2 of Robey, Lindsay, Doverstan or Phillipou with 6 & 7 we will be looking decent.

Keep a pick in the 20s to grab Picketts cousin.

Csn you explain why everyone says academy players knock the pick down? I get compo picks create new selections but we never had access to the academy guys in the first place.

I guess instead of getting the 6th best player we get the 11 th best player
Basically this. Yes, we don't have access to academy kids, but instead of the 6/7th best 18-year-old prospect in the country, you'd get the 10th/11th best.

I have been one of Clarry’s biggest supporters over the journey. But the time is right now. The game is changing and he seems to be very one dimensional now especially since 2023. He showed some decent signs late in the year. But with a new coach etc it’s time to move him and get what we can.

I used to agree with this but then I also saw a thing that 95% of the NGAs and academy selections were playing AFL from age 5, so basically they weren't actually adding any new talent but just designating it earlier

Gold Coast going to get Petracca and then get 2 players in the top 5 of the draft, pushing what they give us back further.

Usually a club wanting to trade in an experienced player, like Melbourne trading in Steven May, hand over pick 6 and then you don’t take a guy in the 1st round.

It’s normally a choice, draft a prospect or trade for experience. Suns though getting everything.

I’m all for academies keeping local talent home, but the current system is ridiculous.

Lol you're making out like they aren't going to pay anything to us. If they aren't giving us their firsts then what they get Trac for free? If they have to give us Humphrey and future firsts or whatever it is then who cares if they benefit this year.

They'll give up the first/s for Trac, but will still get two guys in the top five via matching bids with later picks. Think that's the point Blackas87 was making

No, it’s not what they are giving us i’m talking about. They’ll give us pick 6 which will end up being pick 10 and everyone will say it’s fair for a 30 year old

I’m talking about what they get, they get Petracca and then 2 players in the top 5 of the draft

no other club can trade in a player like Petracca and still get the draft talent they’ll be getting

This is going under the assumption that we're gonna say yes to a Trac trade for way unders? We've already said we'll hold him if we have too.
So if they have to give up Humphrey then you can't just ignore that they are giving up one of the most talented youngsters in the country to get him

Think Pick 6 and 7 is probably the best we could expect and wouldn't really be 'unders' for a guy his age, even if it's not completely what we want. Pretty certain GC will leave trade/draft period with all of Trac, Humphrey, Uwland and Patterson

They might, but again there's a fair bit of assumption in that considering we don't rate the draft that we'd take a shit deal for a bloke we have under contract

Don't necessarily disagree, but I just can't see Trac coming back now or GC agreeing to let Humphrey go. But maybe I'm just being overly pessimistic because we've successfully lured a total of one 'young gun' to the club via trade in the past 20 years (Lever). Maybe Langdon at a stretch.

But even putting our inept recruiting aside, GC will almost certainly dig in on Humphrey.

Basically ignoring that you can trade two years into the future now so their is first and second rounders for 2 years also available on the table again considering we don't rate this draft
True, but I'm not sure how much value will be placed on 2027 picks given that's likely to be the Tassie draft
