Tylah Williams 2nd in the 20m sprint at 2.82.

I wonder if we are going in with the logic that if someone bids on Tylah Williams we simply match but then move Jamie Cripps to the rookie list instead of the main list
Cripps can sail into the sunset. Spend some of that soft cap we have and employ him into a new role as "small forwards coach".

199? Stealing cm’s now are we lol. 200cm everywhere you look. With his updated height to come.
200 cm what? Forward ro rucks.

Go look up hitouts to advantage and look at the heights of the best

Nancurvis is 199
The rest 201-208.

If he wins particularly the running vertical then he might be ok. You either have to have the height or the leap. Considering he doesn't seem to be able to win the ruck against his U18 peers, how's that translate against gawn etc.

Walsh has flagged his desire to ensure we return to the days where the ruckman jumped for the ball instead of wrestling.

He obviously had tallent, but if we draft him don't expect the ruck position to be the position he excels at. If we draft him we are taking him as key forward who can pinch hit in the ruck. And for me, we are covered in that area.

Don't teams have to delist players before the draft?

All* list changes have to be done prior to the draft - the only way to get Cripps (or anyone else) onto the rookie list is to delist them and then draft them back in the rookie draft

* The one change that can be done post draft is moving a player from the Cat B rookie list to the Cat A rookie list - we did this last year with Dewar so we could list Champion as a Cat B after he’d gone undrafted in the main draft

We’ll likely do the same this year with Champion so we can add one of Evans/Williams/Walley depending on whether they get bid on or not

Ah sorry I was aware of that. What I mean is kind of making that prediction beforehand

There has not been any clarification on our extra 4 rookie spots as to Cat A or B.

I’ve just assumed that since nothing has been specified they’re all Cat A

Making any of them Cat B without giving us the ability to prelist could potentially render them worthless- if all of Williams, Evans and Walley were bid on, we have no one deserving to put on as a Cat B rookie.

My understanding is that they are flexible and can be used as either Cat A Or Cat B.

If its Cat A it doesnt matter or change anything draft strategy wise except for how many experienced players do we choose

Id be inclined to get rid of Livingstone in a disgusting move which occurs because the team is too gutless to delist Barnett. and go with 3 academy players + 2 mature age recruits

Fin Macrae, Tom Blamires, Tylah Williams, Koby Evans, Wes Walley

If we feel Tylah Williams gets bid on change his name to Jamie Cripps on a 1 year deal. It could also be a case of us not wanting Wes Walley which I think should push us down the path of a Tom Berry but only if he takes a 1 year deal. Id be inclined to make sure the 5th person gets a 1 year deal and be a mature ager in that situation because freeing up 2 rookie spots in 2026 would be ideal if we cant have another youngster

2nd in the 20m sprint
If the club is certain to take him why don't they tell him to fake a Sickie like Greeves and Sharp? He was always going to test well, it just pushed his value up and the club has to pay more. Feels like the old WCE Admin was way better at hiding WA kids.

Thought it worth showing the list sizes

We will be allowed 48 players on our list

Senior list capped at 38
Cat A Rookie list standard is 4 but there is flexibility to have less seniors so Cat A and Seniors combined is capped at 42
Cat B standard is 2
All other clubs list is therefore capped at 44

AFL concession - we get an additional 4 meaning we can have 48.

I think that our current Cat A rookies are McCarthy, Newton, Maric, Brock and Hutchinson
Our current Cat B rookies are Livingston and Champion

Are we running out of spots? No but it is tight. I suspect some games will need to be played in massaging the make up.

So far we are into 3 definite players with all 3 Starcevich, Robertson and Young nominating us.
We are also supposedly having discussions with Finn Macrae
We have Charlie Banfield as a F/S prospect that should warrant a bid in the national draft. I suspect not too early that it will need points to match for but we have to keep a spot open for him.
We have 3 top NGA prospects that look like they are draftable (Williams, Evans and Walley) and 2 others (Caton and Montgomery) that look likely to miss out. There is a real possibility that at least one of these players attracts a bid in the ND. I suspect Williams is the only one that will possibly require us to have any points. If so, it should not be rounds in 1 or 2 and hence easy to use pick 57 which will go out then come in fast once the high end club tied prospect picks have been used up.

As it stood at the end of the season, we had 46 on our list as we took an additional 2 MSD picks with McCarthy and Newton.

Retirements are 3 - Gov, Sheed and Hunt (all on the senior list)
Delistings are 3 - Petch, Jamieson and Rawlinson (first 2 senior list, Rawlinson rookie)
We have 3 players wanting out - Oscar (FA to Lions), Ryan (in contract wanting St Blunders) and Chesser (OOC wanting Blues but not a FA meaning a trade is needed)

I suspect we will only take a max of 4 live picks in the ND with Banfield and Williams possible if they attract a bid. Otherwise they can go to the rookie draft.

We might need to move Cripps to the rookie list to keep our options open.
I suspect that Livingston is delisted to make way.

Do potential draftees really skip tests because they expect to do poorly or is there something else going on? It seems like the combine equivalent of pouring Gatorade in your piss test

Yeah its very common - very much a cop out. Although if you know you will do poorly and hurt your chances i guess it makes sense

There may also be changes to the Cat B criteria that are less than clear. IF we believe Evans or Walley need another year in the academy and we revisit next year, then that changes things. Increasing the NGA age was certainly discussed but I am not aware of all the changes.

IF we can keep them at the club (unlike what happened with Lawson), then I can only see Tyler Wiliams as outside chance of playing AFL in 2026. Evans and Walley have to spend significant time getting their bodies right. Based on what I saw this season, they would struggle making it to WAFL League standard in 2026.

Wasn't Evans quite highly rated with only his injuries causing him to be unselected?

So the nuts and bolts of it are that CDT is more athletic, is taller and has a tank similar to Jackson at the same age. I guess the question remaining in recruiters minds will be what’s his upside. If they think he can potentially play at Jackson levels at AFL they aren’t not picking him at pick one or two.
And there in lies the subjective view.

I watched both CDT and Jackson in their draft years. I put Jackson higher. I think both are/were talents.

I was picking for Sydney in the BF mock draft and took Jackson with pick 2 or 3, I cannot remember exactly which. Therefore it’s clear I rate talls. I rate CDT but not quite at the same level as Jackson and am really worried he is a mummies boy and after 3 years when he is only starting to get games, he requests a return to Melbourne. Right when Tassie come on
