2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

It doesn’t need to be an inside mid.

It just needs to be a player who projects better than Sharp.

You don’t draft for needs with top 5 picks.

What a stupid strategy.

You take best available.
Of course you draft for needs. Best available at pick 5 is debatable. Then you take needs.

You still haven't named your 5 better prospects and why

I'm happy with that trade. We clearly have three objectives this trade/draft period:
-we are taking three live selections in the draft and we want all three to be top 10 selections.
-nail our trade targets in Starc, Young and Dev.
-have enough points to match bids on Banfield, Williams and Evans

I don't give a shit about picks beyond the late teens in a shallow draft. Trade them as needed to get three top 10 selections and enough points to bid match.
Best post in the thread, reckon you're on the money here.

Clarke has failed once again. Just accept it as opposed to justifying it
Can you explain how bringing in a 2x premiership defender whist also moving up in the draft order is a fail?

Probably already mentioned but Tom Blamires from Frankston VFL mentioned as someone we have reached out to (not committed)
Winner of the VFL Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal as the most promising player in the VFL aged 24 or under

Articles from Foxsports below with a little about him

No, you do a draft order, and stick to it though the first 10 picks at least, possibly longer.

Your approach to drafting is how blokes like Andrew McGrath go at pick 1 in front of Mcluggage or Taranto.

At pick 5 if consider Farrow, Grlj or Lindsay ahead of Sharp, personally.

But I’ve never rated Sharp (who is a divisive pick among draft watchers and recruiters).

Jesus christ
I guess it’s okay if it’s for the WAFL captaincy.

Wait a minute, we are also giving up pick 22???
This is a ****ing disaster if that's the case.
Why?

How many people do you think were drafting?
We won't be using picks in the 20s

A few high picks, then late picks for bid matches

Duursma lovers have such a hardon that they rate him somehow on the same realm as JHF and Harley.

Duursma may be pick 1 in this draft. But let's not overrate him. Hes alright
If there was a Harley or a JHF I'd have a hard on for them in this draft. There isn't.

Duursma like you stated above, is the pick 1 in this draft. He's put a gap between himself and the rest IMO.
He also has a big ceiling, so heaps of development left.

To be honest, I wasn't a fan of his coming into the year. But he's completely changed my mind this season and it's the first time I think that's happened in years of watching.
I'm not the only one, Monocle has also flipped his opinion on him.

Not sure why I'm justifying to you, I know you'd be first to give Sharp a post match rub down. What I proposed trading pick 2 would likely land us Sharp anyway.

Now that I've thought about it more clearly after work, that is a pretty good trade for us.
4 pick upgrade on pick 16, 10 pick downgrade on pick 23, plus Starcevich and pick 50.
Very strange deal for Freo upgrading pick 33 to 23 while downgrading 44 to 46 and also losing pick 50.
While Brisbane just has a 2 or 3 pick upgrade on 3 picks.
Any chance Twomey has gotten a few details incorrect?
Wouldn't be surprised if we're also giving up pick 57 to even it out?
Trade is gross, we massively overpaid

Yeah it’s the bit people are missing.

We probably draft 5 players at most in the National draft.
That’s with Dev on the rookie list too.

3 first round picks then a couple of bids.

You have gained a quality defender and moved up the draft order. Lions got a few hundred more points of draft capital . I think it's a win win. Dev will be your real trade bargain. Hard at it extractor who will free up Harley to show his stuff. Both players are experienced in our system and have winning pedigrees. All the best

Give me a spell.

I really don’t understand the concern by this board. We get a borderline AA defender. An upgrade on a pick to help ourselves with the minimal top line talent that is in this draft along with picks to match bids on our NGAs and Banfield and trade in Young.

What has Clarke done wrong here?
Overpaid for a guy who is a feather knock away from ending his career. Pathetic trading from the club again.
