2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

maybe the board has banned them from trading after they traded pick 3 for 26 + 27. having already traded their original pick 25 for Caleb Daniel

Flanders was a North supporter growing up too

Clarkson has been a cancer there since day dot.

They are in quicksand with him and Rawlings still at the club.

Odds on Clarkson paid out by the end of '26

That was the trade I had to read twice then go and look at another site to confirm it.

Just once I’d like to see st Kilda get a win like that.

Oh dear. Back to awards to rate players.

I think you do need to have watched him play to have any credible opinion on his ability and value to the St Kilda footy club.
I agree to a certain extent- Of course there are some things numbers just can't show you.

But generally, awards and coaches votes are very good measures of a players importance and ability, and it's crazy to believe otherwise.

And what happens if 2024 ends up being the best season of his career- which St Kilda missed out on, because we're getting him at 24 years old at the end of 2025?

And we're also missing out on drafting an 18-year-old who might become a strong contributor well before the age of 24 (like Nas, Windy, Owens) and may play 15 years for St Kilda?
That’s why we have list managers who are paid to create the best list and have plenty of time to figure out the best options.
Not to say mistakes haven’t been made, but they’re 1000% more experienced than I’d say every one of us here to make decisions on what the team needs and when.

Look, i think we're all going in circles here. You don't rate this move and aren't gonna change your mind. Fair enough, thats your purview. All we can do now is wait for the season to start.
I asked a question- feel free to answer it. If you have any thoughts.

On face value it doesn't make sense but there must be an explanation.

North waiting for the clock to tick over to grab a discount danish.

What’s happened to them this year, usually they pitch to everyone. It’s usually, we want Curnow, petracca, Flanders, Marshall, Humphrey and what else have you got.

Rawlings is a punchable face, but frankly, no one wants to go there and they know it so they're kind of in for a world of hurt.

So right now, they got Charlie Spargo from their brother from another mother who are haemorrhaging at present.

Dare say North will be going to the draft yet again and praying for the best.

List managing is mostly a zero sum game though. (There are win win deals of course)

I wish I had the same confidence in the "professionals" as many of you do.

And what happens if he has a season that results in him winning the Brownlow next year and single handedly drags us across the line to win our second flag? We would be reflecting on the trade as a bargain.

How cool are whataboutisms?

Just had a look at their trade board to see if they had anything on the go.

FMD that is a sad place to be right now.

If he was so dominant in 2024 why was he not played in the centre square much in 2025?

He had 53 attendances- less than Read (76) Humphrey (242) Davies (149)

Was this merely a case of Flanders being deemed a terrible fit alongside Rowell and Anderson?
Injury, need.

It happens sometimes, Rowell and Anderson did put together the greatest Brownlow duo effort ever. Also the game has changed, half backs are carving teams up, launching so many attacks. Some might ask if Nas is so good why didn’t he start in the midfield all year.

Fortunately for Flanders and unfortunately for us we don’t have Rowell and Anderson. What do you thing we’d need to pay and trade for either if we could get them to agree to come to us.

Didn’t we offer Rowell Nas money and get a knock back ?.

If your grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike

  1. Jack Steele (207)
  2. Dan Butler (126)
  3. Dougal Howard (122)
  4. Rowan Marshall (120)
  5. Nick Coffield (119)
  6. Zak Jones (117)
  7. Callum Wilkie (113)
  8. Paddy Ryder (107)
  9. Hunter Clark (100)
  10. Sebastian Ross (92)
Just a reminder of the top 10 for B&F 5 years ago! Look how far we've come!!

Every single one of them either not with us or linked with leaving us at some point. Sorry Wilkes, but youre in that category now too.
Jesus Christ almighty COFFIELD 5TH JONES 6TH... embarassing

Now Johnno says pick 18 plus a player is the right cost for Roma.

The Purple Headed Warrior agrees.

FMD, hard to keep up with their changing takes.
It’s fast paced alright

We missed a trick with ours in Bowes a couple of years back
We didn't really. Geelong knew about Bowes being a massive salary dump the previous season through one of their administrators who came from the AFL. They spent the next year working on him before news of GC needing to ditch him came to light and no one was going to get a sniff by that point.

I asked a question- feel free to answer it. If you have any thoughts.

For heaven’s sake - AB, RTB, the LM team and many people on here have given you the explanation.

Once more for good measure…

The plan was:

* 3/4 years of draft picks. ✅
( the most players drafted by any club over the past 4 years)

* Hit free agency hard.
TDK ✅
JSOS ✅

* Fill in list gaps both positional AND age profile-wise
Aleer ✅. Position and age
Ryan ✅. Position
Flanders ✅ Position and age

ONE year not taking a first round draft pick in what is considered an extremely weak draft is seriously not an issue.

If you think this has not been thought through and considered extremely throughly, ( and you obviously doubt the main players in this are professional) well then I don’t know what more we can tell you.

**The ONLY caveat being that if NAS had not signed on, we would have continued on a different path - which has also been explained by Gubby etc.
