No Curnow has Senior traits in that he doesn't require spoon feeding put the ball in his vicinity and he'll do the rest.Neale may even benefit from a year or two in the heat of the ruck it might bring out a bit of mongrel in him.Marshall is needed, desperately.
Curnow is superfluous- we have an improving Neale, a fit JC, numerous small and medium forwards
It would be a top 5 pick. This would be the ideal way to game the system. Force Port to accept a compensation pick. We’ve been too nice with trading for free agents.
Nice negotiating. We have an alternative. Now Marshall will be stuck in the VFL as he’s not a forward and won’t be the main ruck. And having re-signed Stanley adds weight to the idea that Marshall may not happen. Doesn't help that Ross Lyon has publicly declared Marshall isn't going anywhere..
The Port recruiting teams collective stomachs would be dropping very quickly. He's a free agent next year.

This is the impression I get too. Tabling all 3 first rounders is more of a statement than a likely deal, knowing that Blues probably won't accept anyway.Oh no I think we want curnow but we know Carlton wont trade him anyway (unless we put someone like Holmes on the table) so this way we show curnow we genuinely want him (useful if he might have to try this again in 12 months) and we show st kilda we wont be mucked around and hopefully force them back to the table at a more reasonable price. It's a win win. We get marshall cheaper and curnow blames Carlton not us.
Only if Curnow wants to go there. Even their recruiting teams was not really certain Charlie had shown interest. Now that Geelong have shown the love all Charlie has to say is - I want to go to the Cats.On reflection our 3 first rounders aren't that high, and our offer will force Sydney to make a move.
They aren’t trying to keep Steele, no one wants him. This is the impression I get too. Tabling all 3 first rounders is more of a statement than a likely deal, knowing that Blues probably won't accept anyway.
We know that Curnow wants to come, and we like to facilitate those deals. This is us saying we are serious about getting you. We are not leaving you out in the cold while we haggle and bargain with St. Kilda over the Marshall deal. We're willing to abandon that and more to get you. If the deal doesn't work out, it's completely on Carlton. Given none of our players likely want to go to Carlton, we've put the best offer forward we could while trying to keep all players happy.
Simultaneously, this sends a message to St. Kilda. We're not going to **** around discussing picks with you. We put forward a fair deal to them for a player they no longer need and are likely to play in his preferred position, one who they have essentially replaced, and they're trying to get cute with the picks. This is telling them that we could just go ahead and trade out all our decent picks, and then they can take Marshall as a disgruntled player.
I personally don't see the point in keeping players like Steele and Marshall if they're being played in the VFL or out of position respectively, but anyway... Think they could use a first rounder in any draft to address other key areas of weakness, of which they have several.
Coming onto a team's board and hurling childish insults at them always works out very well.Nah not at all I just hate you lot
Afls golden child. Do the same thing we did 25 years ago and you get a slap on the wrist
It's a bit reminiscent of the Oliver stuff last year. They keep Curnow and continue to fall apart, and there'll be a lot of heat on the club for what they missed out on, and Curnow will be gone anyway. Their stubbornness is reflective of them believing they still have an upwards trajectory next year, which is the same trap Melbourne fell into last year when not wanting to trade players of value. If they'd pulled the trigger last year, they'd be one step ahead on their rebuild with less cap dedicated to off-loaded player and more picks having come back to them. The gun is also at Voss’s head. He’s at a fork in the road. Turn down the trade and if they miss the 8, he’s never coaching again. Or he can take the 3 draft picks and ‘rebuild’ and buy himself some time…
And, if we do get Marshall, Stanley won’t care. He’ll just hang around the club as back up. He’s banged up. Marshall on the other hand will be seething in the VFL.Nice negotiating. We have an alternative. Now Marshall will be stuck in the VFL as he’s not a forward and won’t be the main ruck.
I don’t think 1) the offer to the Saints is there. 2) And if they ask, then they are showing commitment to the trade - and Ross’s ego is too great to do that. The more I think about it the more I think Mackie is playing 4D chess here.
It puts pressure on Sydney to make a move, and it'd have St Kilda wondering if they should grab our offer for Marshall.
Is that your line? Brilliant. I am pinching itAnd we're a bit like being on a run away train that is laying tracks down mere moments before it runs out.
if butters is in the bag i take everything i said back and apologies to everyone here. What if we had Butters in the bag?
We just need to move the ball from contested space to outside runners better. Maybe someone who moves it sideways, more carapace than pace.As pointed out by catempire earlier all of Cameron, Neale and Curnow are agile.
There'd be plenty of movement across our forward line and beyond.
When do we storm KP with pitchforks if that's how it goes down

Calm down everyone.
This is a game. Shots back and forwards over the net. A few volleys - a few drop shots. We’re barely through the first set and a lot to play out.
Don’t get sucked in by everything that flys around. Think back to last year when so called experts called it after first week of trade period and said Smith won’t get to Geelong.
Don’t jump at shadows
Danger will learn to do that. He figured it out at the end of the year.Curnow to lead out of the goal square. Neale is a chf. Cameron goes wherever he wants. It's Danger who's a ? as he can't help playing like a key forward going for pack marks when we really need him at ground level.
Not sure what plans we have for our defence if we do move on SDK. Kolo coming back from basically a year off through injury, J. Henry can go down at any moment, O'Sullivan only just broke out this year and Stewart is getting on. We need SDK.
Stengle we can cover, but i'm not sure we're 'that' much better off in 2026 with Marshall & Curnow.

Yeah, I tend to think this is pretty spot on.
If Carlton surprise and take the 3 picks, we'll take it, but I suspect this is the likely path.
We mostly do this extremely well. Unfortunately Brisbane are one of the select teams who know how to stop this, while keeping a leash on our point of difference (elite small forwards who connect midfield-attack).We just need to move the ball from contested space to outside runners better. Maybe someone who moves it sideways, more carapace than pace.
There was also the club announcing the re-signing of Stanley today - happened minutes before Twomey broke the news of the Curnow offer. I also don't think the photo Baz posted with Curnow today is a coincidence. 4D chess from MackieI don’t think 1) the offer to the Saints is there. 2) And if they ask, then they are showing commitment to the trade - and Ross’s ego is too great to do that.
I think they got wind of Mackie rescinding his offer - they realised they were stuck with Marshall, they pulled out on Alir as their salary cap is bursting.
They probably expected to do the trade for Marshall at the last minute for the first rounder and a swap of late picks - and were taking their time to create a logjam for us and prevent us from making other moves. The ball was very much in their court and we were waiting and in a poor negotiating.
Mackie did great - he and the others realised exactly what was happening - so just walked away from the Saints and made an offer to Curnow that Carlton have to seriously look at. The Saints are now stuck with their dicks in their hands.
