As pointed out by catempire earlier all of Cameron, Neale and Curnow are agile.

There'd be plenty of movement across our forward line and beyond.

Not to mention neale will be playing part time ruck anyway if theres no marshall.
The person it locks out of the forward line is henry probably he would need to find a spot elsewhere.

issue with that is you lose all flexibility in trade capital for the next few years for any targets. all for a guy who most likely spend more time in the medicals than on the park.

Clearly you only do if you think his knees are going to hold up. That's the gamble. Id rather get him cheaper but he has 4 years on a contract.

Kelly was also not as good as you made him out to be
At the time Kelly was 25yo, and in 2 seasons in the AFL he had finished top 3 in our B&F (twice) and top 5 in the Brownlow in a side that had just finished on top of the ladder. Proven quality, and no injury concerns at all.

Whatever he's done since then is irrelevant; at the time he was fast becoming a superstar about to enter the prime of his career.

Curnow is a star, but he's also 4 years older and has serious injury concerns that could curtail his output (and arguably have done already in recent seasons). We can't reasonably expect to get anywhere near as much out of him in the next 5 years as West Coast would've reasonably expected to get from Kelly.

So I don't see how you could objectively argue that Curnow now should be worth more than Kelly then.

So what?

Our trading strategy should NOT be dictated by Jack Henry’s feelings.

If sending O Henry somewhere else is the right decision for the club, then Jack will have to suck it up.

I dont disagree but that isnt the reality.
It's the same reason why we wont offer up say stengle or mannagh to Carlton first until we have confirmed a) the player wants to go and b) the playing group is on board
As we dont want to risk fracturing the playing group.

Marshall is needed, desperately.
Curnow is superfluous- we have an improving Neale, a fit JC, numerous small and medium forwards

If curnow comes neale will become a 50 % ruck at least (assuming no marshall you could have neale and sdk job share it somewhat) until Cameron winds down.

I don't think Curnow is a need, however, I love the offer. Mackie looking to force some hands perhaps.
Force Saints to accept this year's first?
Force Swans to cough up a massive offer?
Or Force port to take the compo pick next trade period?

Force saints to take p19 and swaps before its gone i think. We want to panic them into selling Marshall now.

lol fair we are shit

Ur not winning shit without him tho so pay up
Less than 2 weeks ago we were leading in the 3rd qtr of a GF without him. Where was your team? Oh that's right, been on holiday for a month by then.

We were also the 2nd highest scoring team in the comp this year. Again, without him.

We'll be fine. But thanks for your concern.

Interesting times. Didn't get in contact with my source but think a mix of 3 first rounders, Stengle and SDK get it done.

We finish with Marshall and Curnow. Not sure if that is a win or not

Not sure what plans we have for our defence if we do move on SDK. Kolo coming back from basically a year off through injury, J. Henry can go down at any moment, O'Sullivan only just broke out this year and Stewart is getting on. We need SDK.

Stengle we can cover, but i'm not sure we're 'that' much better off in 2026 with Marshall & Curnow.

Pay up what? I don’t know whether you understand trading. The market determines worth and given he’s had a very average year with some significant knee concerns, this is a fairly good option. Remember, we aren’t getting any picks in return.

I get the logic and suggested the same earlier, but Curnow clearly wants us, so not sure if we’d be messing with him to put forward an unprecedented trade offer just to turn around and secure someone else.

Unpopular opinion, but I'd take that. SDK has been about 6/10 at best since he busted his face up. There's something not right with him, be it just unhappy at the club or just unhappy in general to be playing footy. His head hasn't been in it for a while now, not sure it ever will be without some kind of change for him. 🤷
Not that unpopular of an opinion to be honest.

Yeah I doubt we are playing games, we don’t tend to do that.

Nah not at all I just hate you lot 😂

Afls golden child. Do the same thing we did 25 years ago and you get a slap on the wrist

😂

No comparison.

The AFL actually found we did nothing wrong, with the exception of failing to properly record the use of a car by an AFLW player and a night's accommodation in Qld.

No comparison to your cheating.

We are not doing what Carlton did 25 years ago, and unlike many other clubs we have been given no favours at all by the AFL. No draft concessions, no priority picks, no home finals (with one exception more than a decade ago). Nothing.

We just run our club better than just about anyone else.

I know. It hurts when the true answer is we just do it better. That's OK, you can just go on deluding yourself that there is something else going on.

Oh no I think we want curnow but we know Carlton wont trade him anyway (unless we put someone like Holmes on the table) so this way we show curnow we genuinely want him (useful if he might have to try this again in 12 months) and we show st kilda we wont be mucked around and hopefully force them back to the table at a more reasonable price. It's a win win. We get marshall cheaper and curnow blames Carlton not us.

This is like when Collingwood kept bleating about a future 1st for henry so we traded away the fr2 to lock the fr1 and then said this is what we are offering take it or leave it.
Offering these picks to Carlton is sending the same message to St kilda as we sent to Collingwood. It's classic Mackie.

Or butters is never a chance to come to use anyway
Another option is if we have no first round options Port may not match simply understanding we have nothing to give?
This would be the ideal way to game the system. Force Port to accept a compensation pick. We’ve been too nice with trading for free agents.

Yeah, I tend to think this is pretty spot on.

If Carlton surprise and take the 3 picks, we'll take it, but I suspect this is the likely path.
