2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

This. Hence why not having Max in the team was a massive loss to us structurally. Being able to play King and Caminiti/TDK/Marshall will mean Sharman and Owens are getting the 3rd and 4th best defenders, not the 1st and 2nd.
The opposition best defenders were going to Keeler, not Sharman and Owens. Harris Andrews, Sam Taylor, Tom Barrass, Steven May, Rory Lobb, all went to Keeler the 200cm guy not the medium forwards.
Not many 20/21 year olds in their first 10 games have to draw the D1, yet somehow all he received was criticism for being bodied occasionally.

I think it’s mutually beneficial to trade Marshall. He’s an average forward and 30yo. Can’t see a world where selection committee would ever drop Marshall to VFL so can see both Caminiti and Keeler stuck in the VFL and wanting to leave next year when both out of contract.

Pickers was adamant that the manager that released the statement wasn't actually the manager looking after Aleer or the negotiations.

They had someone on as an interview later in the day and he asked them and they confirmed that the guy that made the statement wasn't actually Aleers manager/the one in the conversation with St.Kilda
Is this like Warney's mum gave him the diet pill?

Keeler as second fiddle to ruck for 5 minutes a quarter is ****ing exciting.

I’m still a massive wrap for keeler, capable of being an absolute game breaker

Good point re: Marshall...Geelong may still end up with him!

This is like when I have friends who separate. I'm always careful not disparage either when I'm talking to one of them cause there's a chance they end up back together again.

People trampling Aleer (who has done nothing wrong) might have to swallow their pride if it still gets done.

Lots of water and a only half burnt bridge and all that.

Owens getting squeezed out is a wild call.

Top 10 in the B&F despite missing some games with injury

Won the team trademark award

Has a ridiculous win/loss percentage for one on ones.

Would be one of the first picked I reckon

Footy is a subjective game and being able to kick is a significant part of the game that some rate some dont.

If Mitchito could kick he would be playing through the midfield and his goal kicking is no better he is a liability in front of goals. Put King back in the side and between them they have the potential to kill all momentum with their poor set shot goal kicking. You wouldnt want either of them to kick a goal to win you a game.

Its one thing being able to mark the ball, but he needs to learn how to convert at a much better rate before he is a lock in the side IMO.

Yes, Owens would most likely be playing midfield, if his kicking was'nt so ordinary.
Did play on a wing in his draft year & his poor kicking was mentioned.

Just a reminder that Ben was primarily a defender when he was drafted

Only when he was playing in the same team as Max. Otherwise he was a key forward.

Teams will chase Ben to be a key forward.

OVERVIEW

Ben King has been talked about for the last two years not just for his ability, but also because he is twins with his equally talented brother Max - who are both 202cm key position players, with Ben usually taking the reigns down back when Max plays forward. Max may have had his season ruined by injury but that has given Ben the chance to show his talents as a forward where he won All-Australian honours being a regular goalkicker for Vic Metro. Ben has kicked a staggering amount of goals for his school team Haileybury in the absence of his brother this year but he was also able to kick bags last year for Haileybury so this isn’t a case of Ben learning to play forward on the fly. As a forward Ben King is near impossible to stop on the lead with his reach and clean hands and impressive speed for his size. King will also tackle and offer support at ground level which makes him a complete package as a key forward. Playing as a key defender, King uses his impressive marking and reading of the play to take plenty of intercept and contested marks. He is also a very good kick, making him more than capable of rebounding effectively.

It's not likely but Butters to Saints would be worth a trip to the Doggies board.
If Butters nominates the Saints I will pay the membership fees for Parish and Durham at that golf course.

I agree, if you compare Keeler and Hammer just on forward craft, leading patterns and general forward understanding. Keeler is miles in front, he just needs to go away and add some size and strength this off season

Casboult is a great comparison btw
Don’t disagree and not saying that Caminiti will go on to be an all star forward, just that it’s too early to say.

Re Keeler being ahead, don’t underestimate the impact of being in an academy. He would have been taught the relevant patterns etc for years before being drafted.

Hammer is fresh off the street and I reckon a year playing back would have done him the world of good. Learning off the best players.

Wait and see this year, but I’m hoping he will continue to progress and end up being a good player.

Brisbane just won the flag with Morris yes but one of Fort/Big O as a key forward and a first year player whose name I can’t even remember. Let’s not overrate their importance.
It’s not his ability, it’s his lack of forward nous and the fact that each time he has played with King he has halve Kings effectiveness as he just wants to fly for everything and takes him out.
