Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

His finals series was poor but Neale still kicked 19 goals from 11 games against the top 10 teams in H&A. Hardly disastrous for his first full season as a KPF in the seniors. He still hasn't even played 50 games. There's going to be ups and downs given he wasn't a top 10 pick.

Neale kicked 19 goals from 11 games against the top 10 teams in H&A you say. I would be interested to see how Curnow compares against the top teams.

I do know Curnow has a very poor finals record. Does that translate to big games in the H&A season?

Finished top 2, a game off of finishing Minor Premiers and made the Grand Final. Beat all of the other top 9 teams bar one team who did nothing come Finals time.

“You need a 30 year old Ruck to stay relevant”

Holy jeebus if this kind of brain dead discussion we are going to see that makes us all dumber reading it then maybe we need to shut down this thread till the trade is done…

Do you really think you could beat Brisbane next year without improving your team?

I've changed my opinion on this. I think a deal will get done

Pick 19, or F1 with some other pick swaps.

Depends which club blinks first.

Do you foresee 19 and future 2nd getting it done? Or pure F1 to get it over the line.

Marshall is still adamant about going. Twomey reiterated that yesterday. I imagine more traction will happen in the next few days.

We have about 3 inclusions to the best 23 without losing anybody and that’s before adding Marshall. So yeah, I assume there would be natural improvement.

Saying they NEED someone when it’s far from the biggest factor of Brisbane beating them in the Grand Final is silly.
Want? Yes
Need? No

Adding a ruck would help massively but the Lions midfielders destroyed ours. Ruck was about number 10 of the list of problems on GF day.

The problem is the ageing list. Cameron, Dangerfield, Stewart, Biclavs ect aren't going to get any better.

I think we would accept either honestly.

But I've got no connections so that's just my opinion.

That would ignore the younger talent who have already come through and taken key roles. Guys like Miers, Mannagh, Stengle, Holmes, Smith, Dempsey, O’Sullivan, SDK, Humphries, Zuthrie, Mullin, Neale, Bowes, Clark etc

This isn’t Geelong of 2022 relying on the old fellas to get it done or Pies of 2025 for example.

Outside of Cameron the other older blokes played much less of a role in winning and losing games during the year. Geelong’s Best and Fairest numbers showcase that.

Adding Marshall would be a massive help don’t get me wrong on that. But if you ask Cats fans whether we need a great mid or a great ruck nearly every single one would say great mid. Hence Butters interest.

Fair point but those young players were horrible when it mattered most , especially Holmes and Neale.

You're putting in a lot of work on your Geelong obsessive hatred posting this week mate, everything ok?

Our best on in the GF were all young players? Especially O’Sullivan, SDK and Humphries keeping a lot of the Lions forwards quiet for at least the first half. SDK basically locked down Logan Morris twice in Finals, Humphries kept Cameron quiet for the first half until Scott moved Mullin onto him and he went nuts, O’Sullivan was pivotal behind the footy early keeping Cats in it.

The ones who didn’t show up were the older blokes lol

Against top 10 neale averaged 1.69 goals per game. Curnow averaged 1.7

I've never wavered that a deal will get done, and agree with your assessment.

Mentioned on Trade Radio this morning that St K was aware for months this trade request was coming. It's highly likely that Marshall is already planning his life on the surf coast (looking at houses etc).

A deal will get done.

My post had nothing to do with Curnow. I was commenting on a young key forward with 45 games under his belt, selected at pick 33. He's doing okay. The post I replied to was worth pointing that out to.

Anything else I can help you with?

It wasn't nothing but I have it 4th on the list of problems. I think the defensive issues can be solved by midfield work so everything comes back to contest winners

It seems that your stance is:

-It is almost impossible for Geelong to not be a contender for the foreseeable future.
-Geelong are in deep, deep trouble and need to quickly overpay for every possible target.
-That you must complain about Geelong 15+ times a day.

A first round pick for a 29 year old surplus to requirements ruckman was disrespectful?

You may feel disrespected by Geelong but I assure you it's nothing to do with the trade offer
The club doesn't see Marshall as "surplus to requirements". I think they have been very clear that they want him at the club next year unless they are compensated in a manner that turns their head.
