2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Clubs need to be very careful if they include any 'good faith' clauses.

Anti-Collusion Measures: The AFL explicitly prohibits agreements between clubs that undermine the draft or trade process, including any form of bidding collusion. During the trade period and draft, every executed trade triggers an AFL review via an online meeting with list managers. They are questioned about potential links to other trades or "bidding agreements" to detect side deals.

This was strengthened in recent years to block "potential bidding collusion," particularly around high-profile prospects like father-sons.
Yeah I get that but 13 to 7 is a major upgrade for us and we can afford 41 going back. Maybe throw in a F3 to show we are the keen ones who really want to move up as we have a real need for the best possible players to suit our needs.
Thinking pick 7 is our most achievable way of moving up TBH.

So they're basically going to do bombers what they did to us last year, except actually giving them a heads up.

They pissed off Conners big time last year.
Now Petroro!!

Is this the beginnings of clubs taking some power away from the managers?
I'm getting a different vibe with this one. Hawthorn pulled the rug from under us. This one seems less like pulling the rug from under Essendon and more giving themselves time to maneuver.

Yeah, they wouldn't want to compromise the draft......

There is a bit of a racial element going on with the TT situation as well

Can't see the same vitriolic attitude towards him returning being taken with a player of a lighter colour IMO
I don't think it's racial. What he did is not cool. Then after counselling, he did it again. Brought the whole thing onto himself. But after 2 years of going through processes, the AFL has signed him off. Whether it be Swan Districts, or the Dimboola 3rds, "people" will try to say he can't play. We must not let these people control outcomes. He's not a murderer. He didn't even get a prison sentence (and yes, I view this as worse that what some people go to prison for).

I love Hawthorn fans trying to pump his tyres, saying he’s a jet and would easily walk into Essendon’s best 23. I mean maybe so on the latter part, but the offer is either him or pick 62, which probably ends up around pick 80 after F/S and academy stuff, so it’s damn near worthless. Which makes pretty much undermines any arguments that Hustwaite is a valuable commodity.

If Essendon don't take the offer on the table which scenario is more likely in the following 12 months.

Merrett takes it on the chin, rises to new levels of motivation and fitness, has his best season ever setting PB's all over the place, apologises to his team mates and tries to win back their trust and therefore his trade value is even higher in 12 months time or he decides he is happy to play out his career at Essendon and never play in a final again.

Or Merrett cracks the shits and sulks, plays like Tim Kelly next season where he is just going through the motions, doesn't chase or tackle, just cruises around picking up cheap possessions, is the focal point of bad morale and discontent generally within the playing group, has another blow up with the club at the end of next season when he asks for a trade again but this time the best offer is Pick 20.
Can't even see a disgruntled Merrett doing that.

I actually like Hustwaite and reckon he'd be a handy aquisition for us, but agree he's doing absolutely nothing to sweeten the deal for Essendon and the Hawks can eat a bag of peens.

I'm not talking about what went down at the Suns. Thats clearly well known.

I'm talking about what happened with him this year...

The year after Carlton are essentially sacking him after publicly putting him up for trade and then openly talking about working how to cut him lose while under contract?

Yeah no thanks.

Very easy for someone unaffected by his behaviour to say. I didn’t refer to your comments about redemption btw, but to your comments telling others to calm down. Totally unnecessary and reeks of ignorance. Don’t see why you’d want to go in and bat for Thomas of all people anyway.
I'm not batting for him. I hold a dim view of what he did. I also don't want him at the Eagles. And I'm reasonably confident that no AFL club will touch him. That's on him. But here you are suggesting AFLW players are affected by his behaviour. They likely don't even know him. DV is appalling behaviour, but it's not a one way street when it comes to responsibility.

I'm guessing he has more than "health issues".

Not many clubs would virtually cut a player out for that.
There's been heaps of rumours that's he's been out on the gear or turps.
