Is he quite mobile and does he have some speed by foot? If so to me it might have a little bit of the Josh Jenkins trade we did a long while back where he was on Essendons Rookie list and a complete unknown and we traded for him and he ended up having a very serviceable career.

Yeah look I'm happy he's got another opportunity, the real issue is he hasn't a footballing back ground, that's hard to overcome.

I wish him all the best and he can fly for a mark I'll give him that, he will be popular with the Crow fans.

This isn't the case with Matt though as far as I'm aware. Far from it in fact.

I agree, I think it is the main reason we had our eyes on Matt and not his brother. I think he has the potential to be elite at either end of the ground.

I am just saying if anyone can't get the hands on the ball as a defender it is unlikely they are going to do better as a forward... because as a defender the ball pretty much comes to you by standing somewhere remotely close to an opposition forward, as a forward you have to get some separation, lead into space and be able to read the play so you make your moves at the right time. If Whitlock will make a good forward, he will likely be good at taking marks down back by default. If he can't do that then it is unlikely he will make a good forward because it you are too thick to get to the right spot down back it is unlikely you have the smarts to play as a forward.

I am not judging Whitlock though, it is his first year, he has a long way to go. I am guessing that we are playing him down back because it is easier for him given he is very young and his body needs a lot of work. He may end up playing predominantly forward in the future. Just saying... if it ends up that he can't get a mark down back I wouldn't be holding my breath that he will be any better up forward.
