2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

If there's one positive from our failed Curnow acquisition, it is that OH will be training out of his skin.
I hope so. I think how things should go from here is Henry to start on the extra bench position and slowly transition Danger.

So Butters, Walsh, Zac Bailey are some of the names available next year.

Hope we have a crack at all of them.

Repo/repossess - The term "repossess" means to take back possession of something.

Yes Dustin Martin did that to Rhys Stanley with the footy, shortly before shrugging off Dangerfield in the pocket to kick his 4th goal late in the 2020 grand final if I remember correctly.

Come on mate. His property is about 30 minutes from Kardinia Park.
He will take something like pick 2 and a player. And based on what's happened this year, $1.5 mil
That was sort of my point - we don't have pick 2, there is no guarantee that any good player would want to move to PA from us, and we don't, or at least, haven't paid 1.5M to anyone.

Interesting though about the property, do we know this for fact or is it just rumour? Edit- I just looked this up, the family property (presumably his parent's?) is near Bacchus Marsh. Probably why the Footscray rumours are there?

Don't get me wrong, he is just what we need, but the last few days should serve as a salutary lesson that we just can't just get anyone we want, whenever we want them, even if they want to come to us.

Geelong just needs to go after free agents and uncontracted players. Stop going after contracted players. You either dont get them or pay too much. Mackie failed this trade period.
It’s not a failure to not overpay.

Of the uncontracted players available who should he have gone after?

Yes his parents are at Bacchus Marsh.
But he bought acreage closer to Geelong a bit over a year ago.

So there are links to the region.

And yes, we'd need to break the mould with regards to players and dollars.

Completely agree. Sorry to repeat myself, but Marshall is literally the ruckman St Kilda don't think can make a difference. He hasn't built on his early hype and is universally regarded as an average tap ruckman who doesn't kick goals.

We're trying to win a premiership here, not win the Prelim slightly more convincingly.

O Henry would be the least excited at GMHBA about Buckley's arrival. I don't think they were real happy when he walked out.

Buckey left 12 months before Henry was traded.

And Buckley walked out of the bears after 12 months, he understands it happens sometimes.

Buckley showed tremendous faith in OHenry, whereas McRae left him as an unused (sub) twice in his last two games.

Minority report?

We just dodged a bullet ... and a spitball.
Marshall is a below-average tap ruckman who may struggle even more with the bounce entirely removed. He'd be a minor upgrade but not enough to change games that really mattered.
Marshall averaged four clearances a game this year. Only Geelong players who did better were Smith, Holmes, Atkins and George Stevens. Think he would have been pretty handy.

Dont know who all of them were. Some would of signed up a year or two ago but may of been gettable if we had put the work in a couple of years ago. If there arent any you put the work into getting the ones that will be available in the future. We threw too much at marshall and curnow who were contracted. Thankfully saints and blues stupidly knocked it back.

$10 million one year deal with everyone else playing for peanuts
This whole idea of being able to match is a joke..

Why should you be able to suddenly “match” an offer that is higher than your own?? Why all of a sudden is the offer on the table when it previously wasn’t??

How is this genuinely an offer?? Where did that extra 300k come from?? And would the club actually accept giving you it??
Or.. is it just a load of b.s to force a trade…

How about we just scrap RFA and have free agency

Gee you're going way back. But Buckley had told the bears he would leave after the first year if they took him.

And thats why there's a conspiracy theory as to why why he finished 2nd in the B&F.

OH has a fair bit of athletic capability. Could he potentially become a backman that just punches the ball. A bit like Alex Rance or dude that went from Freo to Collingwood way back.
No cos he is too small (height and frame) The biggest weakness with jack henry is he is too small for his position. Ollie henry is another whole level of tiny below jack.

Bailey is the one gun FA with a massive offer IMO will be able to get to his club of choice without being matched.

Plenty of clubs will be throwing mega $$$ at him... Just gotta hope he picks you I guess (if he wants to go).

When it comes to centre clearance per centre bounce attendance, even Rhys Stanley beats him (just).

For stoppage clearances, Visentini, Teakle and Goldstein beat him.

For hitout win%, Stanley beats him, but so does just about everybody else. He's ranked 32nd.

Fools' gold, I've always thought.

So if I’m interpreting your post correctly, you’re critical of a result that never eventuated?
