They were rubbish this year, they’ve traded in 3 c grade to f grade players and they have one draft pick.

Bottom 4 again
They just feel like stop gap list moves.

The real problem is the list needs rebuilding in a period where the drafts are going to be seriously compromised.

They are loading up for next year I guess which is the last of the uncompromised drafts, and it’s better than this one, but it does seem like it’s just extending the inevitable.

It could be they’re certain Butters is going next year, and they’ll go full scorched earth then

Strange they aren’t looking at a trade pre free agency this year, although it could be the quality of this years draft.

I think West Coast just need three elite players. One ruck, one key forward and one key defender. You can replace the ruck or forward with a midfielder for the same impact. Reduce the game a slog of 15 taggers on the field, Ross Lyon ball. 45-52 scores.

I can see what you are saying, but there is going to be a bit of a rainshadow for list building caused by Tasmania.

All clubs need to have some solid next level talent coming through during that period.

If I actually gave a stuff and followed them, I would be concerned about their list management generally with the recruitment of Owies, Graham, Chesser, and others. And any club who didn't select our Reid has a question mark too. It has all looked unremarkable.

Fiorini being traded to Essendon for a future 3rd. That brings full closure to the Harley Bennell deal. There were 0 winners.

I think that's the year we did pick swaps again with Gold Coast at the end of the draft hence Harley Balic (RIP) being in the "what Fremantle gave" column.

Now that Tarryn Thomas is free to restart his career, why would the AFL make that decision during trade period and which club made the request?

Still a load of deals to be done, or not done.
A lot of people will not get much sleep tonight, players included.
Phones will be running hot.
A rush of deals done in the last ten minutes tomorrow.

Probably dimma and Gold Coast.

The AFL basically given him the green light to do anything he wants up there
I doubt anyone takes the risk on him. If a club is considering it I imagine they would want to see a little bit more character improvement. Surely they would also consult their AFLW teams about their comfort having a bloke with his record on their list. I would be asking him to spend another 12-24 months avoiding any issues and then see if the AFLW team would be ok with bringing him on. Even to the point of bringing the AFLW captain into an interview with him.

Saw something on the internet with a round of golf booked including him, AFL player manager Ben Williams, Patrick Cripps and Graham Wright for a 10:20 tee off today.

Good on the Bombers. Hawks tried to crowbar Merrett out of them and tried to say it was Essendon's fault it didn't happen.
Dancing targeting not only a contracted player, but a club captain. Then not even presenting an offer until the day before the period ends, AND putting a timeline ultimatum in place.

Disrespectful club, hope nothing but the worst for them.

And Adelaide as well.

i reckon this has absolutely cooked hawthorn's premiership chance for next year. they will still make finals though.

but losing worpel, serong and jiath means they just lost a bunch of important wing, mid depth. making them even more reliant upon will day and newcombe.
The plan to beat the hawks will be simple next year. beat them in the midfield. see if they are capable of getting it out of D50 in the 4th quarter.

St Kilda told their captain to GTFO despite him wanting to stay until days ago, their ruckman to stay, despite him wanting to GTFO and them getting a replacement for him and a defender they wooed for months to GTFO at the eleventh hour.

So much for player power being out of control.

Hawthorn has made its final offer to Essendon - 10, 22, future first and Hustwaite for Merrett and a future third round pick. @traderadio

Yet Fremantle have to cough up significant overs. So so bad
10,22, F1 (~16), Hustwaite > Merrett, F3 (~50)

Vs

15 (Jefferson), 7 (Windsor), Pick 34 (on traded) > Jackson, 42 (Knobel), 57 (Wagner)

If Hawks have a s*#t year like we did 2023 then that is massive higher price than what we paid for LJ.

Melbourne rightly argued case that we would roll again for finals in 2023. That year was such a big disappointment.

Merrett offer was 3 x first round picks
LJ was 2 x first round picks plus a swap of mid 2nd for early third.
