I'm so damaged by the Hinkley era & the wider state of the game that while I'm liking the changes happening at the club I just can't bar-up over the sport in general anymore.
Go to Gaza for 4 months, then come back and I bet you a slab or 7, you will fire up.

On the flip the NRL finals were enjoyable. There is a whiff about AFL at the moment.
As I wrote straight after the final siren of this year's NRL GF, its easier to bust open a AFL GF than a NRL GF. Partly scoring differences, partly more space, partly more skills needed, and lot to do with kicking the ball 50m opens things up a lot more than a backward pass.

If you are a great kicking side like Hawks were between 2011-2016 years when David Rath - a full time kicking coach - had been working on their kicking skills since December 2004, you can bust open an AFL finals game a lot more easier than by backward passing the ball in an NRL finals game.

Cannot ****en wait to see a new gameplan and pick it apart. I almost don't even care if its any good. Just never again with the Hinkleyball.

Edit: I'll no doubt become a cranky **** next season as soon as we lose a couple, but I get the sense I'll actually be giving a shit.

So Kane no longer thinks it’s looking like Matty Primus-level support for Carr?

That was always such a ridiculous hot take by him before the AFL season even ended.

Clickbait Kane.

I was just thinking Hinkley must feel like a total loser and failure seeing a bunch of pretty decent names pile into the club the minute he ****ed off, but then I remembered narcissists don't think like that.
He saved little Port Adelaide and got them to the level where people wanted to come...

I laughed when Dew was asked about his path to Port and he said he had some discussions with Port after Gold Coast sacked him, but the time wasn't right. That is, Hinkley was still here.

Webster said the same thing about his discussions with Port in 2023. Seems clear the place was stinky from the outside looking in.

Rutten also mentioned that he was all in on this because it was a new era with new people. Whether you think Hinkley was a good, bad or average coach, we would all agree that the place was incredibly stale and that would've been turn off for anyone wanting to come here.

We've even dropped the ball a bit in the last couple years with being a destination club for players. We've really struggled to land anyone of note since JHF. Hopefully this changes as this new era is clearly now upon us.

That’s true, but at least now we can have some anticipation and interest and, whatever we get, good or not, at least it shouldn’t be just the 'same old, same old'.

One of the best things for a supporter base is hope.

The most frustrating thing about the end of the Ken era is that even when we were smashing it in the minor round we didn't dare hope.
