Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
The two are not mutually exclusiveStrongly disagree. He completely blew 3 consecutive top 10 picks, and blew first rounders in 2018 and 2019 on top of that. We nail them, then it’s maybe a top 4 list. Boyd and Saad were brought in under Austin anyway.
having a third first next year would be idealI don't want to be too brash, but I don't really want to trade up, because I don't have a guy that I really want before Dean.
CDT looks good but is a 5 year development prospect. Robey looks exciting, but I sense the bust potential. Sharp doesn't fit our mid mix. X Taylor is another who is the wrong list fit. None of the key forwards should be taken that high.
It just doesn't make sense to me. Trade out to next draft with enough to match Dean, Ison is the best option IMO

Agreed. Ideal world for me would be to have a pick between Dean and Ison.I don't want to be too brash, but I don't really want to trade up, because I don't have a guy that I really want before Dean.

Carlton currently holds picks 9 and 11 but is weighing up trading both selections as it looks to match bids on father-son Harry Dean and Next Generation Academy prospect Jack Ison. The Blues also have next year in mind, where they will need the points to match an expected top-two bid on another father-son prospect in Cody Walker. While any deals might not be done until draft night, West Coast is in the frame to grab pick 9 from Carlton in exchange for picks 13 and 34.
Such a deal would nudge the Eagles a touch higher up the board, while providing Carlton with a few more points for bid-matching purposes this year.
There have also been talks held with Adelaide, which is pondering trading a future first-round pick for Carlton’s pick 11.
It would leave the Crows with two first-round picks this year — at 11 and 16 — as this year’s minor premier’s look to make hay while the sun shines and push for a premiership in coming years.
Dont mind the westcoast deal as per HUN. The adelaide one will ensure we wont be taking another pick as we will use 11 for dean and later picks for Ison However will be good for next year.
The Westcoast one will allow us to take another player but not a very good one as after Ison depends where he is bid at we will have 34 and picks on the 40's. But maybe they wont bid on Dean.
Much of a muchness really. But im not experienced in points.
It would have to be done as a live trade, with a trigger point for the deal(s) to happen.I read it as us doing both deals, ie getting some extra points and a F1.
Those West Coast picks would become 16 + 29. Along with our later 2 picks which should come in to (at least) 38 + 49.
1766 points. Which could match a bid at 4, but then leave us nothing for Ison.
If the bid for Dean comes later, we would have plenty of points, especially if Adelaide throw in a little extra on their trade.
We want more than that with trade number 2 but its getting closeI think these proposed are a win-win. My predictions would be something like:
Trade #1
In: 13, 34
Out: 9
Trade #2
In: F1, 48
Out: 11
Our draft hand thus becomes: 13, 34, 43, 48, 54
This should be just enough to cover Dean and Ison (I think), assuming that neither of them attracts a crazily high bid. We then come out of the draft with Dean, Ison, two spots for rookies (which I'm fine with - they can go to SSP types), and then three first rounders for 2026, with two being spent on Cody.
Arguably WCE are in control of that situation - duursma, then 3 bids on Northern NGAs, then whomever they want with their second pick at 5It would have to be done as a live trade, with a trigger point for the deal(s) to happen.
e.g. No bid on Dean before say 5, then we do the WC deal.
Agree, we'd want more in that Adelaide deal. No way is pick 11 worth their future first by itself. And given we'd have to throw in our F4 to get their F1, that makes it worse. Maybe their 48 and FF2?
i.e. Car 11 + F4 for Ade F1, 48, FF2. Maybe even FF1.
Again would depend on when the Dean bid came in, so this trade wouldn't happen till after that (unless he's still there at 11(14)).

Nah those changes may be next year, but agree WCE may need to do more tradingNot sure how GC get both academy kids. Isn't the rule you have to match with a pick in the same round? They lose their 2 first rounders matching Uwland. How do they match the next kid with only 2nd/3rd round picks?
I suspect they will need to do some more trading... or not. The AFL will find a loophole for them I'm sure.

its the other three they may want that will necissitate GC needing more pointsThats not the rule. They only need points and have more then enough. They get both 100%.
