Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Odd he hasnt nominated but might figure its no point, if nobody will take him. And he'd know via his agent if its a possibility.
Tbh, I think Lij wants to stay at Carlton, and this is probably the safest way for him to do that. No chance of being drafted elsewhere and any train-on opportunities he can respond to under his own agency with no obligation.

Train on and be picked up as a SSP end of offseason; putting all his eggs in the Carlton basket. I think Carlton have been fairly open on their luke-warm feelings towards Lij, at best, at this point. While everything he's said and done (indiscretions notwithstanding) have indicated he loves it here and wants to stay. So it's a little risky for him if we don't come to the party. But then I guess there's always SSP at other clubs or the Mid-season draft as a last resort should we still not want him in.

I think it's a "I want to play for Carlton" move more than it's a "I want to play AFL footy no matter where it is" move, if that makes sense.

On this auspicious day 50 years ago - the Prime Minister Gough Whitlam who couldn’t guarantee supply was replaced by avid Carlton supporter and number one ticket holder Malcolm Fraser.

If current Carlton Coach Michael Voss can’t guarantee finals by mid-season may also be replaced by one Josh Fraser. 😉

1990 GF, Wright and Millane vs Long and Anderson.

Was there. The best part of that day, was our VFL team be premiers. 🤣

Was not there, but surely the best part of the day was Essendon and Collingwood players beating the shite out of each other at quarter time?!?

‘Being explosive, dynamic and powerful’ is the message and how they want to train.

Sounds like the Beef Vindaloo I had the other night...

Always top 4.

5th and 6th will definitely have an easier time now that 7th and 8th don’t get a week off anymore, but there will be times when 9th and 10th are going to win the wildcard game and then the EF. Imagine being a QF loser and your SF is against 9th or 10th instead of 5th-8th.

Finals have now become easier for every top 4 club to make the PF.
And a 7th placed side who might have won 5 or more H & A games during the season than the 10th placed side could end up playing finals instead.

Reckon the wild card round is fine but I reckon the AFL should have went down the NFL route where 1st and 2nd play the winners from 7th to 10th and it’s knock in all the weeks … none of the bs wild card then normal finals like we currently have … a team can play 3 times in 5 weeks if they make the granny

Interesting.

Kinda makes sense with them brining Josh back to the club now. He's had an apprenticeship and would make a good interim coach at the very least, which would be a nice audition for someone you see value in that space.

My thoughts are he's presumably had some financial payout and his 'medical/psych' advice may be to stay at a known environment like Carlton, if they will offer you are spot, or take the year out to get yourself sorted and come back in 2027.

I'm not getting sucked into this one again. They got me with speed and power last off-season
Yeah u can preach power, speed, dynamic, exciting or whatever u want.
But you’ve gotta have the right type of players to execute what your preaching.
Last year, we preached power and speed, but didn’t quite have the right balance to play that style.

why have finals? - go the european soccer route and just have minor premierships

supplemented by multiple meaningless cups... now thats a cash grab :p
You're tongue-in-cheek but given the thumbsuckers at hq essentially lift these changes from other codes, it wouldn't completely if it were recommended.. but yay, change with no clear benefit to the sport or competition.
slow clap

What would everyone prefer? Coming 5th and 6th and playing against a team that hasn’t had a rest in the first ‘real’ final. Or coming third or fourth and travelling interstate to play either a Brisbane or Adelaide? I actually think coming 5th or 6th is now a better option.
3rd or 4th has a chance to make an immediate prelim, and worst case with the second chance you get the home semi final which could be against an interstate side.

I get the argument where losers of the two qualify finals might be disadvantaged somewhat as they’re very full on games. And then you have 5-6 playing teams who’ve had no rest and have slogged a game out already the week prior.

Perhaps afl need to consider the old 8 system.
1 v winner 7v10
2 v winner 8v9
3 v 6
4 v 5

2 highest ranked winners into prelim. 2 highest ranked losers double chance. Basically top 2 awarded with easier entry to prelim and guaranteed double chance, and 3 and 4 statistically have high chance of double chance if they lose but not guaranteed.
