I still have no idea how finals works, but it sounds like 7 becomes 4 after this.

Semi-Finals this weekend in the Supercars. 2x 250km races, starting at 3:20pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The points have (again) been reset, with the finals contenders starting as follows:
Feeney - 4150
Mostert - 4120 (-30 relative to Feeney)
Payne - 4096 (-56)
Waters - 4078 (-72)
Brown - 4066 (-84)
Allen - 4057 (-93)
Randle - 4048 (-102)

Historically, T8 cars have won 11 of the last 12 races at Sandown, which should give some solace to Brown who hasn't looked like winning a race in months.

For mine its about which 2 Mustangs make it through as the aforementioned record for T8 at Sandown will see them get through..... unless the rain comes. If Brown manages to qualify well then he'll be fine. Thats the biggest thing holding him back.

So which Mustangs play off in Adelaide.... smart money is on Mostert and Payne, but will Chaz suffer the same bad luck as Woody has.

Mostert might have an advantage given he is the lone WAU car in any potential double stacking scenarios. That said he could also get beaten up a bit.

Even if Brown doesn't qualify great, his race pace will get him up there and he will have plenty of time to do it with the longer races.

I'll be there each day. Some rain Sunday would be good.

He'll also likely have at least 4 or 5 very hungry finals contestants in front of him.

GM have dominated this track for a long time so id be staggered to see him miss the 4, but he could.

Are these the only drivers racing at Sandown?

Question. Scott Pye brought up a possible name change for the category.
Thoughts what would people prefer?

Keep as Supercars?
Return to V8 Supercars?
Or maybe a complete change and a return to an old brand that would actually kinda fit as well AUSCAR?(yes I know it was different to our “touring car” category but been so many changes over the decade anyway.)

They changed to Supercars (dropping the V8) with the intention of one day having regulations which allowed other engine configurations, though none have been forthcoming. Most people still refer to it as V8 Supercars though, so changing it back makes sense.

AUSCAR is clearly nonsensical, given that none of the cars involved are manufactured in Australia, and only 1 of the 3 will even be sold here by the start of the 2026 season.

that was back in the gen 2s if I remember rightly. Was never going to happen. May as well be GT3.
This is our version of NASCAR, DTM, British Touring Car etc

It’s an Australian championship and the cars racing are built here.

Majority of the cars back in the ATCC weren’t built in Australia in group a and c days either.
NASCAR only 1 of them are sold.
Both are headed towards more brand recognition than specific vehicle recognition. Hence Toyota using a “Supra” in both & GM moving to a “generic” shape.

I still think V8 Supercars makes sense, AUSCAR makes none.

Let's face it, the public knows them as V8 Supercars. They have great brand recognition under that name. Why not switch back to it? Anything else would require a complete re-brand, and would face an uphill battle for acceptance with the target audience.

Doesn’t really say much other than “something is coming and we are excited”

Wonder if it’ll be a “Vette”
