Watched this last night, doco on the 1970 GF between Carlton and Collingwood, 121K crowd, "the game that mattered the most" they call it, the birth of modern football, biggest GF comeback of all time, "Jesaulenko, you beauty!", very good

"The Birth of the Modern Game: Carlton coach Ron Barassi's revolutionary half-time instructions—to use handball as an aggressive, attacking weapon and "run, run, run"—is widely credited as signalling the shift toward the contemporary, faster, possession-based style of Australian Football."

“So, it’s only two states playing it, but we're a national code? I’m a little bit confused why only two states get to play it.
“And then are the best of the best going to play it?
And correct, you’re embarking on a season, you’ve just coming off the back of a really strong pre-season, and then are you going to put it all on the line for no reward at the end of it?

“I mean, there’s state pride, but it’s not like it’s a series where you get the opportunity to keep going for it.
Agree with Zorks.
I am a proud West Aussie but if we still had Starce playing for us, I would prefer he doesn't play because a premiership is far more meaningful to me as a fan.
In the glory days of SoO the novelty was that you didn't get to see these guys play against each other.
The rules are bent a little in the Vics favour (not that they need it) with Queenslanders like Ashcroft and Marshall being eligable for the Vics instead of Qld.
I get why they are scheduling the games early in the year so the season isn't interrupted but I know that it means that the players won't be at their best.

If the Vics pick their strongest side, I don't see how WA or SA can compete with them over the next few years.

Rhan Hooper lost everything in a house fire and a gofundme has been set up for him.

He is very active in Ipswich and helps indigenous kids in schools in the Ipswich area.

I just wish Fox would supply the lotto numbers for tomorrow instead of this.

NOVEMBER 15 - MERRETT RETURNS TO BOMBERS TRAINING

He’s back!

Zach Merrett has returned to Essendon training at the Hangar a month after his failed move to Hawthorn.

The current Bombers skipper was back training with teammates on Friday, over a week before he was due to return on Monday, November 24.

This may be of interest to some if you haven't seen it. Usually weekly or so, goes through a AFL trivia quiz.

They have had regular crosses to McDonalds for promoting $2 from each burger goes to Ronald McDonald House

About an hour ago Lachie Neal popped up behind the counter
The guy on the mic asked for a Big Mac then asked Lockie what size coffee cups you have.
Lachie brings up first a small, then another size then a milkshake size after the prompt from the guy about surely you have something bigger.
Lockie says how about this cup and produced from under the counter our 2025 Premiership Cup.

Excellent channel (although I do occasionally raise an eyebrow at some of BT's pulls).

Sorry for their loss, must be a horrible experience to go through...

..but did they not have house/contents insurance?
insurers are the scum of the earth and will look for any reason to not payout. even if they held an insurance policy they probably suffered significant uninsured loss.

As someone who has worked in insurance in the past this statement couldnt be more incorrect. I did home assessing for loss adjusting firms (not the insurer) and the amount of times I recommended a decline based on the policy guidelines but the insurance company still paid it out anyway was off the charts.

The mirage that insurance companies look for ways to get out of payouts is ridiculous. The outrage usually comes from people who have had poor experiences because they dont understand the policy they have purchased, then cry foul for their lack of understanding. Anyone who thinks they are hard done by can have any decline reviewed by the regulator/ombudsman anyway.

I pay thousands of dollars in insurance each year so i have little empathy for people who dont insure and then expect others to bail them out when something happens that any basic policy would have taken care of. As for your comments about uninsured loss, again the onus is on the policy holder to 1, understand their policy and 2, ensure the coverage is adequate.

I may seem like a kent here , but i did this work for many years and im sick of uninformed people making uninformed statements like this.

Have we just stitched up the McClelland Trophy and $1m prizemoney today with the Crows and Hawks getting knocked out?
We had last week when we won through to the prelim. It meant the lowest we could finish was 1st plus 4th, and even if Hawthorn had won the AFLW the best they could do was 1st and 4th too - and we had the tiebreaker. Now it's just even more official.

The insurers everyone dealt with after the last cyclone up here were fantastic. Had boots on the ground immediately and I never heard of one person with any discontent over their outcome.

Some people say things that suits their narrative just as a matter of course to keep revalidating their preconceived view.

Insurers these days are heavily regulated and the last thing they want is poor publicity over not paying out appropriately. It's in their interests that more people takeout insurance and have confidence in the system.

Miracle runs to the finals

In round 14, 1995, the Brisbane Bears were 14th on the ladder with 4-11 win-loss record, and then coach Robert Walls announced he would be leaving the club at season’s end.
Six weeks later, Brisbane was in the mix to make the eight, and in round 22 the Bears were 10th on the ladder and beat eighth-placed Melbourne by 21 points (with Demon Shaun Smith taking the ‘Mark of the Century’), relying on the 13th-placed Sydney Swans to beat ninth-placed Collingwood on the Sunday at the SCG.
The Swans came back from four goals down at half-time to beat the Pies by 23 points and the Bears were playing finals football for the first time.
An emotional Richard Champion was seen crying on TV as Channel 7 crossed to the Brisbane pub where the players had gathered to watch the game.

Bit of a trip down amnesia lane there!

Much like the centralisation-decentralisation cycle in business, the sub will probably return in another five to six years.
Five on the bench plus a sub, coming soon to AFL grounds near you. And you can bet Chris Scott will be leading the winging, whining, and wearing-down routine from round one of the 2026 season.
