Player Watch #12: Jy Simpkin [Part II] - staying at North in 2026 + won't feature in leadership group as Larkey set to be named captain

Jy isn't good enough to push anyone out of anything... maybe some Zhlob out of Premo Economy on the way to some shit hole when he should be at the club training (cos he's no good and the most overpaid player in AFL history).

Brayden George has more talent is his little finger than Jy. Josh Goater same.

Jy is Eduardo Tucker, in a tuxedo
I understand your point on the talent but the reality is neither George or Goater cannot get on the park hopefully goaters off season specialist meeting gets results but we cannot expect anything of George , anything we get is a bonus. Again the talent is there for sure but you could be the love child of Wayne Carey and Flo Jo but if you cannot stay fit well it’s as useful as a chocolate tea pot

Salient points, but we ain't gonna improve if we persist with C-Graders. We have backed ourselves into a wall, no AGrade talent is coming to us through any other means than the draft, yet some (not all) want to disregard the talent for less talent because they can do a few extra beep test levels.

There has to be an end point, sure, but we're not at that point yet. Not even close. He needs time (which we have in reality) and as there's now 5 on the bench - to say we can't carry him is nonsense. We can and we should.

I agree that c grade talent isn’t the way forward but we need to be past carrying non performers we can’t go on winning 4-5 games a season to me it isn’t about the beep tests it’s getting your hands on the ball and putting it through the sticks

I think its about not turning the ball over for rebound 7 times a game (Jy) .. Its putrid. He turns the ball over far too often in transition. There’s players on our list that can do a better job

There are turnovers, and there are momentum killing, energy sapping, head dropping and WTF your a professional AFL Player type turnovers.

You expect in the first 3 years all players will contribute in this area for the simple basic turnover (see Colby and FOS for example).

It’s the other type of turnovers that the likes of Jy (Butcher Bailey, LMac) are still doing well into their careers that are not acceptable. Play within your limitations and execute the basics well.

Spot on!

I’m aware.

Every team has ball butchers.

We simply have the worst set up imaginable to defend when the ball changes hands.

It’s a disaster.
I dont disagree. But when its the simplicity of the ball use it just blows ya mind and probably team mates also as they probably pressing thinking “dont transition, dont transition, he cant **** this u…. OH ****!!!”

We conceded the third least turnovers last season, 1.5 more than the best (Geelong).
This is true, but more significantly we have the worst turnover differential in the league. Our low totals are more the result of our slow-motion game style than quality disposal. We are the worst team to watch in the league.

A slowmotion shankathon.

It's about putting it through the sticks, the kid hasn't had a clear run at it... let him be "Big Game Zane" - we haven't had a big game yet. With a clear run, the Carlton-game screams out as a big moment for the lad.

Can kick goals, can take spekkies, play the kid in a forward pocket and let him do his thing (from Juniors). It takes a few years to adjust from beating up on kids to beating jacked-up senior opponents.

He can do it but he doesn’t , obviously that should change but was given appropriate chances. I hope he breaks out this season but he hasn’t been poorly treated

Taking speckies isn't high on my list of priorities, to be honest. If the campaigner doesn't improve his tank and/or strength in order to be valuable in situations that don't involve a sky ball into the forward pocket, he can wallow away in the magoos

Kangaroo's captain Jy Simpkin can be found working out at southeastern suburbs pilates studio chain Wildsoul Wellness in the off-season. Find out how he keeps in shape over summer

There's an excellent Steak and Grill around the block from that joint, I'll keep an look out for the Captain when I get my next rib eye

Word from my mate (but I wasn't there so I'm happy to be corrected);

Pretty much all the veterans were at Arden St today. LDU, McDonald, Larkey, Xerri, etc.

Still no Jy.

(I have no inside word on circumstances)
