I don't think so. It seems to me, from the outside obviously, the Swans have positioned themselves to take every single one of the Academy boys, which has been their MO the whole time. That's not to suggest they don't have eyes on all the other prospects, its clearly not, but the positioning does allow them to also grab someone if teams let the academy guys fall all the way to them.

I was saying about Kyle and just his improvement is great and his measurements were awesome too. I'm a little weary of the timing of everything. Just saying.
I wouldn't say our MO the whole time. The Pies bid on Joel Cochrane at 47 in the 2024 draft. We didn't match it and chose Riak Andrew at 55. No doubt the recruiters thinking there was more upside to Andrew.

Good read about 2020 Covid draft...

Thanks for sharing. That's a really interesting article. It was particularly interesting to hear the perspective of a recruiter (Caruso) - his revelation that it was his (and other recruiters') understanding that North switched from intending to draft Elijah Hollands to picking Will Phillips, his thoughts on bidding on tied players, the value recruiters put on being able to meet potential draftees face to face etc etc.

The other thing I take from it is that, despite the extensive bitching and moaning people have for our recruiters and their drafting in recent years, especially with higher picks, the Swans hit that draft out of the park. Our draft haul seems to be considerably better than any other club. Not only did we get the best player in the draft at pick 32 (Errol), we also got two other players who are still on our list (Logan and Braeden) whereas the majority of players from that draft are not still playing, let alone for the club that drafted them.

And I think that all three still have improvement in them.

It was one of those quirky things where other clubs didn't get to see much of the potential recruits but because ours were from the academy we had a pretty good handle on them. From memory, McDonald got to play a bit that year while the Vic kids didn't.

Oh. I meant our MO the whole time for this group/year. I should have been more specific. But your point absolutely is correct too.

Chad Warner will be on the channel 7 ashes tea break coverage.

Coxy on SEN Breakfast this morning:

The academies and draft rules are working. Carmichael would have cost us this years and put us into deficit for next year, and that's something they weren't prepared to accept.

instead, Carmichael gets an opportunity to play AFL footy in another team - which is what the academies are about.

FWIW (i.e. not much):

It's really obvious that neither ESPN nor Fox know much about the full lists of any club, only current seniors and these draftees. 🤡

Try convincing most of the Melbourne clubs that this is the case.
Gold Coast Suns were brought into the AFL solely for the top Melbourne clubs to bring their drafted players back to Melbourne 2-3 years later. How dare they actually produce their own players and, even worse, get them for nothing.
They're quite happy to accept all their father/son selections and players from the biggest rort ever thought of by the AFL called NGA.
If you listen to St.Kilda's president, the Northern Academies are the biggest issue preventing lower clubs from climbing up the ladder.

The St Kilda club is the biggest joke in Australia.
They can't do anything right and blame it on academies.
They just overpaid a ruck. Wait a few years for that to bite them in the bum.

And he just injured himself. He will be the most under pressure player in the league next season if he's not a top 5 player.
