They're not a like for like. I see Mellor as being a lot closer to a O.Henry type (which I'm not a fan of in general). Where as Wiltshire wants to be more like Close.
My first instinct was that he should have been delisted, when I look at why we might have ratained him, firstly he got a 1 year deal. He clearly still had scope for some more phyiscal development in him. He did tease a bit early in the VFL season, that concussion kind of swatted away his momentum. I think his kicking is not at the standard, I wonder if there is some offball thing they like that just isn't caught by the camera.
Josh Lindsay reminds me a lot of grant birchall or Matt suckling from hawks. Decent players who were lethal playmakers across HB.I hated the idea drafting of Clark and some other falcons we have taken.
I absolutley love Lindsay's leg... and I'd be happy to get him.
Zero to do with him being a Falcon for me.
Happy to admit I have only watched his highlights... which show him hitting targets at will and creating.
The rest of game obviously is also important, but at the very least, he has one elite trait and others around pick 23 will likely have zero.
Doubt he gets to our pick anyway.
Putting Birchall and Suckling in the same category is fairly disrespectful.Josh Lindsay reminds me a lot of grant birchall or Matt suckling from hawks. Decent players who were lethal playmakers across HB.
Not disagreeing, my memory is a little hazy but you get my point. He strikes me as a decent footballer with elite foot skills. Very bland besides his kickingPutting Birchall and Suckling in the same category is fairly disrespectful.
Birchall was a champion. If he didn't share an era with Corey Enright he'd be held in far higher regard.
Suckling had a lethal left peg and not much else.

I agree with that. If he was Grant Birchall I'd take him in a heartbeat, but he's not.Not disagreeing, my memory is a little hazy but you get my point. He strikes me as a decent footballer with elite foot skills. Very bland besides his kicking
I dont see jevan lasting to that pick.
When you spent your entire salary cap on chasing Liam Ryan, tom dekoning, jack silvangni and Flanders… you ain’t going very farThere’s only 10 round 2 selections after bid matches. Doubt anyone trading one for saints future second. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Ross Lyon begs Mackie for a trade. Those morons would have jevan if they did the right thing by Marshall
Welcome to draft day!
Night 1 Prediction - Cats trade 1st pick out for a later pick on Night 2 and a future pick next year
If the player/s we are after are off the board can see this happening
Ok is there anyone like this kid available at our pick 23?? Reflecting on this absolute jet and what he should have been… was destroyed by injuries and never made it.. should have been close to the best player in the league if he had an injury free run. Just a generational talent that got wasted.. just look at this highlight snip of what should have been… you don’t see this come along often
It's the forward from SA I'm talking about. Besides the overhead marking I'm not seeing any comparisons with O. Henry like some. Agree with your post thoughThat's a big question mark, along with what he'll actually be at the next level. It's why he's rated where he is.
The reason a guy like Robey is rated in the top 10 is because there's next to zero questions that his ability will translate to AFL level. It's just the ceiling of where that ability ends up taking him is the question.
Same with Sharp. There's no doubt he'll be able to play at AFL level, he's got the traits and intangibles necessary to do so, and the runs on the board.
The question is what will he be? And his detractors would argue he's going to be a James Worpel type at the next level, and while you do need those players, you generally don't take them at pick 1.
I see Mellor as a nice prospect, but one we don't need to go out of our way to acquire - or lose any sleep if we don't. He's akin to a Angus Hastie level of prospect from a couple of years ago.
I do agree that he's a better option than Wiltshire though, and find him being signed up again bewildering. I'd be taking Mellor ahead of him everytime.
The baffling part of this is that it appears that the club does not agree. Retaining Wiltshire seemingly signals the club's conviction that they see more potential in him than Mellor, given they've locked him in and apparently offered nothing more than a 'meh' to Jesse.I dont like his kicking and some of his efforts in the back end of the vfl season were substandard. I would have delisted Wiltshire
My point on mellor was not so much player type but that he has more hope of becoming afl standard than Wiltshire does.
Looking for a movie to watch I'm not wasting my night with that possible result I will most likely flick back and forth as our pick advances.Night 1 Prediction - Cats trade 1st pick out for a later pick on Night 2 and a future pick next year

Uber-surprising to me, as I agree that Mellor even now looks more likely to have a chance of really making it. But there you are.

There is literally no chance IMO that clubs will let Mellor slide to the rookie draft for us.We'll essentially have 2 "live" picks across the ND & rookie drafts
1 in the ND if at pick up Mellor, and 1 in the rookie draft
If we cross fingers for Mellor as a rookie pick up, it'll be 2 in the ND
Not that frustrated at all, actually. Just really surprised.I don't really get how people can be that frustrated with them keeping Wiltshire.
I'm less surprised with them keeping Jedda on the list. He's still shown enough to suggest that he's comfortable at the top level. Clearly an excellent clubman and a great role model for aspiring players coming through. And every club has players on their list that aren't necessarily going to be banging down the door for senior footy, while being more than handy depth if the injury stick hits hard. The one I don't understand keeping is Bews. We know what he offers. It's not like he's going to improve as a 32 year old. It feels like best case scenario he's our 28-30th picked player and only gets a game in an injury crisis. The only thing I can think is we like his leadership in the VFL and we're keeping him as effectively a playing coach and depth for a massive injury crisis.
Most years outside the top 30 picks most clubs boards are totally different. I’d guess that there’s plenty of clubs that wouldn’t have Mellor on their board. If he wasn’t our NGA I doubt people here would even be suggesting him to be honest. He’s just a luxury pick imo. There is literally no chance IMO that clubs will let Mellor slide to the rookie draft for us.
Only based on my thought process but clubs overall are just sick of us - so they'll do anything to make us pay more or miss on a player that might be at some form of discount.
Not to mention we have bid on many a preselected player listed to other clubs - that will come back at us here IMO.
Not upset by it - its just part of the game now - but the draft is such a mess where a Back to back Premier can get a Top 5 player for a pick in 20's - plus their already existing FS and Academy players... and we'll be the target of their fury lol
