That means I will see him at Colonnades

ams4crows get the tomatos ready
Oh I'm so ready, my Saturday and Sunday morning coffee at Colonnades is about to feel like I'm an undercover spy tracking a target.

As someone from Kangarilla it's a proud moment to see one of our junior players make it to the AFL. I've watched Mitch from afar, but know his Mum and sister more through the netball side of things.

Belinda his Mum will seriously be over the moon that her son is a Crows player officially now. Lovely Lady, is kind and supportive of everyone.

I know we joke a lot about Hamish always picking a player from a "good family" but I can't speak highly enough for the whole Marsh family.

I think we were never a chance for Dyson. If we got the pick early off Carlton (gamble as we wouldn't know if Dyson would be there), Don's would have taken him with one of their earlier 2 picks. Melbourne wouldn't trade either of their picks, as confirmed by their head recruiter. Pickett wouldn't last to our first rounder anyway, reckon a few clubs after Melbs picks were lining up to snag him which is why the reluctance for Melb slide down. They had 2 clear targets.
Once dons had the pick, only chance to get him was massive overs, our first rounder next year could blow out a bit anyway.

What's clear though is we clearly rated him - i would hazard a guess we probably had him in our top 3 or 4 this year...

We keep Tex, trade in Finbar, re-rookie Welsh..... And then draft in Marsh, whilst we have TT and Fog in their primes....

??

Im just confused at this point
What confusing?

Tex has about 15 games left in his career. Finbar is just a backup, Welsh is unlikely to make it.

Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Marsh are our three forwards of the future with smalls surrounding them.

Putting more eggs into a third tall role when we are about to get Ah Chee as well?

When we just dusted 2 finals with an inferior midfield? No lightning quick small forward, no superiors outside line breaking ball user...... ?

Mate cmon....
We drafted a top five midfielder 12 months ago, and another one the year before.

Ah Chee is only just six foot. He's plays a bit taller but he's NOT a tall.

Am I the only one who sees something good in Finnbar? I think he will surprise a few people given the chance.

I'm curious on him. Contested marking is usually a good trait to build a tall forwards game around (teams can always do with more guys who are capable in their air) and he seems like a genuinely good and outgoing bloke (and you need these personalities in a resilient side).

That said it's probably better to set the bar for Finnbar as just a Burgess replacement instead of someone we have genuine plans for. Should he become more, great.

Mind you we may see Marsh as a half back flanker in a few months or hell has frozen over and rucks have become important.

Character aside, we really should try and trade our F2 & F3 (aka the Ah Chee picks) to draft Phillipou if he continues to slide.

We can but it does create problems next off season when we try to improve the list.

I know the answer is you keep bringing picks forward but eventually you end up like Port filling list spots with average players because you have no decent picks. If we are confident we can move a few out to get some decent picks next year then I am okay with it.

Unbelievable Sharp was there at Carlton’s pick they were desperate go get out of.

Essendon got it for a bunch of picks in the 20s. Then we tried too late to jump in.

Poor list management this off season.
Very simplistic analysis.

If we'd traded two firsts for Carlton's pick 9, Essendon would have just gone earlier on Sharp. They knew who we were going up for, and those two firsts were only worth it if we KNEW Sharp was there

Irrelevant. It's already been pointed out that this scenario would not have happened had we traded up to nine before the draft (with 2 firsts). Essendon (or, whoever) would simply have changed the order of their picks to get him before us.

I'm actually not that happy that we tried late. I don't know that Marsh+next year's first is sensible value for Sharp.

As it is, the situation is:
Total capital spent: Pick 23
Total incomings: Marsh, AhChee, Cotton

Pretty good value there.

I fully agree with this. Comes off as PR management instead of a genuine attempt, seeing we'd have a good idea what that top 10 looks like.

I read on the port board both us and them traded the 40's picks with GC?

He's the one. Rather than waiting for our pick at 42 we should package F2+42+48 for WC 28 and get in early. We're not using 48 this draft anyway, although we might get a future 4th for it
You would think WC are the ones that may consider trading. They possibly have a few academy or father son options also to accommodate.

They spent an F2 last night getting up the board for Lindsay, maybe with the thought of grabbing a later F2 back tonight?

I believe they’re only going to use one more pick, and it’s gonna be a bid match for Williams

So they might want to trade out one or both of their second round picks

Port confirmed their trade with Gold Coast but we never confirmed ours.... Did we actually do the trade with Gold Coast??

As far as I know we didn't end up doing it
I wondered the same, but it turns out that we did, but well after the draft started, and it didn't seem to be advertised.
We now have 46 and 54.

I don’t think we did, given Carlton probably would’ve made the trade for a F1

We clearly wanted Sharp and no-one else if we were trading up, so to trade for pick 9 when there was a live chance Essendon would take him with one of their earlier picks would’ve been a huge risk

Based on the Marsh selection, I reckon the plan is to have Ah Chee on the Wing and Curtin a FT mid rotating forward with Dawson.

Marsh to sit under and watch Tex for a year and chop in when he has his 4-5 rests for the year to get a taste.
In all seriousness what has curtin done in the middle to date to suggest he will succeed there? So far mainly Nicks has just brainwashed him into guarding the space. If he can turn into a see ball get ball well that would be great he just doesn’t project like that.

Has MM played in defence before?

Could he be the Sheezel / Hodge/ Sicily type distributor off HB with that great leg?
