Hopefully Welsh realises he's on his last chance and spent his break on the track - although juniors that go backwards in their final year, rarely amount to anything.
There's really 2 groups we're talking about here that play different roles - the really big guys, TT, T Murray and now Finbar and Ludo and the more mobile shorter key forwards, Tex, Fog, Welsh and now Marsh (although I suspect with Marsh's tank and booming kick, they may have earmarked him for a wing role, having been to the promised land of marking power on the wing this year).

His kicking is inconsistent and his ball handling average. Don't expect a 197cm guy to have Daicos skills but he has a lot to work on.

Just reading that Cal had him linked to our first pick. After Marsh, he very well could have been next on our list.
We are now with Curtin and our recruits.
I wonder if they look to develop him as a CHB early on?

Quite a bit of negativity about this kid not being that savoir mid we are looking for. With the history of taking mids this late in any draft being this poor, taking a project tall is a great shout. Project is probably a harsh term even as he already has form against VFL opponents. The clock is ticking to 2027 with physical development but seems like he has the tools to be at the worst solid depth in the position. Great pick!

I almost fell off my chair when his name was read out. i was expecting to hear the name of a 188-192cm Midfielder. draft range of 20-30 and higher than that early on this year shows that he has potential and injury made him slide. I would have liked Ollie Greeves but for 17 other clubs to pass up on him tells us there might be issues there with Greeves?

I wouldn’t even be surprised if this years number one pick fails to live up to his billing - look as his brothers - all under performed
This kid is going to make or break Welsh.
Could drive him to the required level, or could burn past him.
Loved what I saw from him earlier in the year and for a pick 50 you can't do much better.
SSP selection on a midfield type perhaps, I'm not as worried about our midfield as some are..... if we actually play the talent in there that we drafted to do so.

Sandringham Dragons - source of some of our more painful draft misses, McAsey, Fergus Watts, the quickly departing Gunston. Josh Worrell's probably our biggest hit, also have Edwards and Nank currently on the list.
The trope is they're homesick mummy's boys, largely derived from the affluent area and the rage at Gunston leaving.
The Watts departure always stuck in my craw.
Just has a dominant final for WWT, we're crying out for key-forwards, he decides to go and play for the club his Dad is CEO at where he is (checks notes) behind Gehrig, Riedvwolt and Koschitzke

You know, I’ve often thought Walker would be amazing on the wing. He has always been athletic, can take a grab, and his field kicking is sublime. But age would probably be against him now. Strategically he would have height advantage against standard wingers. So I’m not against an athletic tall forward on the wings

As frustrating as it is that we weren't able to find a midfielder, Archie is a decent pick. We absolutely needed a developing key forward on our list. That we were linked to this guy with our first pick tells you that we rated him. I suspect we would have either taken Cody Curtin or Archie. With Curtin gone, Archie was a really good pick. At pick 50, a key forward with upside is a very reasonable choice.
Of course he is never going to live down that draft night reaction. I'm sure the boys will have a bit to say to him when he arrives!

Given we did in fact toss up between Marsh & Ludo for our first pick ....and given Marsh could in fact play wing or higher up the ground .....we haven't really Drafted two KPF's
It's fair to say we did in fact Draft next best available on our Draft Board

Maybe lacks the burst speed but if we was starting in 2025, considering he's only 192cm and an uber elite kick (maybe the best I've ever seen) he'd definitely play some midfield minutes as a junior.

He's certainly not a "franchise" player ....and it's remarkable how many #1 picks fail to live up to the hype of their Draft year .....Andrew McGrath a classic example
