A seriously decorated year - VIC Metro MVP, Coates team of the year and a Premiership, all the talk of being a first rounder

35 touched and 4 goals in the CTL prelim final

And not drafted. Bizarre, feel for the lad.

Given our lack of midfielders, I would've taken him at 56.

Getting influenza and missing the combine is just bad luck. I also lost about 3-4kg with flu this year and was sick for about 2 weeks. I'm sure a club will take a punt on him in the rookie draft.

Reading that article its amazing he went undrafted, surely will be snapped up quickly today.

Did we ask, or did we tell him?
Don't really see what difference it would make either way, it's not as though he has any choices other than what the club put forward. I'd fancy it was the former but he's hardly going to disagree given he was told he'd be re-rookied.

It's either that, or straight up delist.

I agree, that's kind of my point.

Its different if a player was asked to be moved to the rookie list for the benefit of the side with a promise but to me we have no obligation to hold a position for him now after the way the cards fell at the draft.

Last time Gold Coast did that to Hugh Greenwood, North pounced and snatched him up. This is only done for players that would otherwise be delisted. The Crows have an obligation to follow through on their word though. Not doing so would cause bad blood with the family.

Speed and endurance are everything in the modern game - unfortunately, he is lacking in both.

I wonder if they flat out promised him, or prefaced it by saying they intend to pick him back up but will depend on the outcome of the draft?

Wasn't he under contract? meaning that if we don;t pick him back up, we have to pay out the contract and there is the optics of doing that considering he was a father son player too.

Well if you don't deal fairly and honestly with your playing list it's asking for trouble imo. Commitments once given need to be seen through.

He had a 2 year contract offer put to him when he was delisted, which Gold Coast extended to 3 years when they heard he was going to sign with North instead.

At the time people said Gold Coast were taking a risk delisting him because it'd make him a DFA and Greenwood could sign elsewhere. Greenwood himself said people saying that were stupid for speculating it and then went and did it anyway.

absolutely, the FS element changes things.

I wouldn't have thought the contractual/finances would be much of a hinderance if we wanted to ruthless (we never are so the point is mute anyway)

Hoping for one of Onley, Rodriguez or Kickett as a rookie tomorrow. Most likely we hold the spot for a SPP instead though.

Surely a club takes a punt on Hetherton too.

First three guys taken that weren't already aligned with a club - Rodriguez, Onley, Kickett. Greeves taken after that as well.
