Brissy bears did us a big favour... we basically get a free hit in ludo... could turn out to be a real star. He has the physical traits
We actually did better than that, we traded pick 48 to the Suns for a 2026 3rd rounder tied to Essendon in a less compomised 2026 draft.

I’m in the camp that they got this wrong.

What you post later contradicts this.

- After trade period the Lions recruiting manager went on record in saying, the non-trade was less related to trade value but more to do with having one more crack to contract AH Chee with full knowledge that they couldn’t match the contract and AH Chee desire to move to Adelaide

They wanted to keep Ah Chee. A 2nd rounder had zero value to them.

How did they get it wrong?

My thoughts on the Ah Chee play by Brisbane … it gave them nothing to do the trade we put forward. Nothing.

By pushing him through the PSD there was a chance they could harm the improvement of a team that could be competing with them in future finals.

Maybe he gets picked up by another team, maybe the contract we put forward pushes another player out down the track, maybe it takes our focus off something else and we miss an opportunity. Who knows.

Take the option that is best for their team, not ours.

Why hate on it? We should be trying to copy it.

They didnt want the late 2nd round pick.

So why not exhaust every option in trying to convince him to stay?
It's hard for BRIS to accommodate all their Father/Sons and Academy picks ....there has to be a washout the other end

Despite what some have said, of course it was about the money .....BRIS weren't going to offer a 5-year Contract to Ah Chee, as we have .....and he also saw the potential washout, with Academy picks, and selected future certainty over uncertainty

He's a role player, not a central cog to the Brisbane machine

A F2 for Achee not having any value was obviously not true, they swapped 45 for a F3 with Collingwood. If a F2 from us was of no value, a F3 is even less valuable.

IMO, Brisbane had something else at play, probably hoping to get Achee to stay, or hoping another club took him to weaken a key competitor (eg WC who might have had some arrangements in place re Allen, Robertson, no Anneble bid, going on)

Why couldn't they have on traded the pick into the 2027 draft next year? It might not have great value but it certainly does not have zero value especially if the Crows happen to slide next year.

Other teams taking Ah Chee was a pipedream, providing Ah Chee/his manager weren't talking to other clubs. The gamble from Brisbane is they believed they could resign Ah Chee with the unknown of PSD as a threat.

In truth, they've probably helped us due to the mix of a more front loaded contract, and us retaining draft picks. Unless they think Callum is a mercenary and will be off once he's in the cheaper part of his deal.

They could have. But its not a very valuable piece for them and even a slight chance of keeping Ah Chee was far more valuable to them as they try and contend for a three peat.

If a future 2nd had so much value why didnt they take it then?

It's pretty clear and obvious they didnt rate the future 2nd. A desperation Hail Mary to keep Ah Chee was worth more to them than a F2. It's pretty bloody obvious. They are going for a flag again. They have added the 6th best kid in the draft in addition to Draper and Allen.

Footy gods do their own work

I think Brisbane lied about not valuing a 2nd round pick to save face

They wanted to bluff us into taking their deal at the last minute, it backfired and they ran out of time, afterwards they come up with an excuse

Yeah ‘taking a stance’ (at least for that level of player) is kinda pointless when the player is out of contract, it’s just gonna happen again anyway

They knew 100% that they weren't going to convince Ah Chee to stay. The F2 clearly had value - if not to them, then to another club that they might have been able to on-trade it to.

They just wanted to make a stand, to show that they won't be pushed around in future trades. Whether that ends up paying off for them in the long run remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, it's our benefit :)

It's a strange position for BRIS, and I don't subscribe to the "we won't be pushed around" story

On the converse, ADEL have demonstrated previously their preparedness to use the PSD .....so that history didn't worry BRIS apparently, so I doubt BRIS's stance will deter another Club in the future

That makes no sense at all. Get the F2 and maybe it can be bundled up with other picks to get higher up the draft order, could be used in a trade for a player etc etc. To get nothing is a far worse position that to get something especially a pick in the 2nd round in what is considered a better (less compromised) draft AND the last draft before Tassie impact hits
