If an Aussie driver has a form slump there is no doubt their car must've been sabotaged. There's no other rational explanation.
If it's Mark Webber with the form slump then it's because he's crap. If it's Oscar Piastri with a 30pt+ in the championship with a bunch of races left and when he's been a winner his whole life, then something is not quite right.

Maybe I do, watching Oscar's WDC hopes ground to dust at about the same time Lando shows himself to have all the right stuff to be WDC makes it much harder when he's being damn likable as well.
You don't think there's a massive entourage of PR/image consultants behind the Norris camp?

Lando has always been likeable all the way through the recent seasons of DTS when he was struggling to win anything

He was there first, so be it

If the roles were reversed we’d be complaining that Oscar was there first and he deserves favouritism ahead of Lando

It was fun to dream while it looked a possibility; and trust me if you’ve not had much success following an AFL team that has been as success starved as North, following F1 has been a distraction since 2020

Oscar will be a WDC when he’s at a Team where he’s the No 1 Driver

I think what is happening with Oscar would be easier to swallow if McLaren actually owned up to Norris being their number one driver.

Lando is a very good driver and a likeable guy but Oscar drove the car they started the season with better than Lando did.

Oscar would still be leading the championship if not for McLaren's shenanigans and developing the car to Lando's preference, all of which would be understandable if McLaren had owned it from the beginning instead of their "two number one drivers" schtick.

The 'developing the car to Lando's preference/driving style' argument is a bit of a funny one. Takes me back to i think 2022 or 2023 where Checo had a good start the season with Max struggling with the car. After a bit more development the car came back to Max and Checo was left in the dust. Now my theory with that is as the car development pushes the envelope further and further the car handling becomes more and more 'on the nose' not to suit one particular drivers driving style over the other but because that is how you get the most ultimate performance in an F1 car and the team is chasing ultimate performance. It just happens that Max likes the car on the nose AND that's how you get the most of a car which makes a hell of a combination. So basically, when the car was slow and understeery Checo just about had the measure of Max, but as the car development pushed on to make it faster that's where the better driver shines through. I think what has happened at McLaren is a less extreme version of that, the car development went away from Oscar because the car was being improved and the better driver shone through in the end. There's no real way back for that 2nd driver because the team are never going to make both cars slower just to get back where they were at the beginning of the year.

Exactly. Red Bull developed their car for their number 1 driver.

Little punk being all humble and genuinely surprised he did well enough on the radio as well. Need more Zak on screen to get the vitriol flowing.

It's difficult to dislike him. He admitted it readily this year when he stuffed up (eg collision with Oscar in Canada) and seems a nice enough bloke.

If he wasn't British we'd probably more readily embrace him.

No, they devoloped the car to be faster and the no.1 driver is the driver who has the talent to extract that performance from the car. The alternative is, your car goes nowhere and your opposition improves and beats you and both your cars lose.

This is why I love it when celebs like Kristen Bell/Dax Shepard, Steve Carell, Terry Crews show up at the less glamorous races (Austria, Zandvoort, Hungary). It's much less a media obligation and more because they want to be there. You can tell when they choose to bring their family along as well. They have something to add to the grid walks.

Oh and Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones of course!
