Inglis is NOT a genuine bat
Objectively false. 600 run shield season followed by two 400+ BBL seasons.

Averaged 50 in 23/24 in the shield followed by 1 ton from 2 matches in 24/25 shield. Not to mention multiple 600+ run grade seasons at a young age, including a 1130+ run season at the age of 19 (1400+ if you include the old colts league). Not bad for a part time, "putrid" bat, right?

Anything to counter besides that he made no runs, along with the entire top-order, in the West Indies?

A test going for 2 days is a mitigated disaster for everyone involved. I'm pretty sure the Broadcasters, Sponsors, ACB, public and the cricketing associations of each state do not want 2 day test matches. We want to see a contest that reaches at least the morning session of day 5....
And with a pink ball test in Brisbane to come.
Who comes up with these brain dead ideas.

This is true. I saw a message from a mate who is a good judge of cricket. It was at the end of England's 2nd innings. It said "open with Head and Weatherald, put on 50 and suddenly only 155 to win". How's that for an amazing call :)
A mate of mine has been pushing Head to open down my throat since Warner retired, called out for a beer today, longest 6 beers of my life.

Easy to stick the boot into England's batting, however i thought Starc bowled brilliantly, and that catch.
Stood up in the absence of Hoff and Cummo. 36 years old and he takes cricket preperation ultra seriously.

You didn’t just use BBL “form” as a criteria for a test match? Great he had a 600 run year, so has Webster, let alone a few others. He is a keeper, unfortunately Inglis is better. No issue playing him in the sub continent but not in Aus where the ball moves and bounces we saw how bad he was in the Windies under those conditions couldn’t help himself trying to slog his way out of trouble.

If Carey is unavailable he’s in but he is not good enough to be a permanent bat. We don’t need to copy England picking one day batsmen.

Webster should be in front of Inglis. FMD, are people actually wanting to watch test cricket or hit and giggle whilst they will the months away until football starts?

Webster performed exceptionally well last summer and played as a genuine all rounder. He and Green can absolutely operate together. How can we discard a guy for another drop in slogger?
Will we play Lyon in a Gabba day/night test?

Although it has been the best batting track in the shield this year.

Absolutely we will play Lyon

Assuming Webster is in that’s FIVE quicks we don’t need a sixth.

I'm using it to counter that you said he was a "putrid bat". Try to keep up. Why did you ignore the rest of the stats? I'm guessing because it's doesn't suit your argument.

He's shown he can score big, initially in grade cricket with a 246 at the age of 19 and then with 8 FC hundreds and 1 test ton. Most of those coming in the last 3-4 years.

You can't form an opinion on his entire batting style based on 1 or 2 dismissals in tough conditions while discounting his technical ability, recent history of solid consistent runs at domestic level, and his clear ability to play big innings (including one at test level). Webster being an all-rounder is irrelevant as Green is clearly the first choice all rounder, and Webster's overs are likely not to be needed, given England's inability to bat more than 40 overs.

Just because he's aggressive doesn't make him a one day player. His FC SR is 60. He scored 30 from 66 balls in the last shield match. Pretty slow for a "slogger".

If they pick someone to bat 7 or 8 then go with Webster. But Green is best at 6, and we've already shown shuffling around the order to suit one person is a recipe for failure

Why would they want 5 "quicks" or 6 bowlers overall for a D/N Pink ball test when England struggled to bat for 60 overs over two innings in Perth?

Circular logic in this thread.

NFI……

Every player has their worst. To suggest Bollinger has a better average means a tenth of **** all. When Bollinger manages 400 plus test wickets, come back to me.

When was the last time you saw Starc ‘off’? Not for a long time. The second half of his career has been elite. His consistency, fitness and output has been the reason we have been so good and won so many test matches. He averages 27.02. He’ll be under that when his career ends. He will eclipse Lee, Johnson and his longevity is superior to Lillee.

The current bowling trio is close to the best you’ll see produced in Australia. To suggest he is a ‘very good bowler’ only shows your radar is totally shot. I grant you there’s been plenty of bowlers better, but he is an exceptional talent. Exceptional.
It's hard to judge blokes like Johnson and Starc who had phases of their career well above other phases. Thommo doesn't get judged that way - only the peak period.

All these Ex English players as commenters are germs, apart from Stuart Broad who I thought is actually smart and considered.

Michael Vaughan is pretty decent also.

Webster should to be in ahead of Lyon [retire]
Uzzie should retire. [Job done]
Gaz might start getting left out, particularly if the trend of seam friendly short tests continues in Aust, but don't think he'll retire. I think he'll still be well and truly in the frame for India early 2027 and will be desperate for that one. that should be his swan song.

Could still be around in 2037.
