Cam Guthrie surely good enough to get in that 22- or has he not yet retired?

I think it's cause he's still showing as "delisted" and has maybe not quite called time on his career - could possible be hoping for a lifeline during the SSP after Xmas

which teams could possibly do that? are all teams available?

I absolutely despite the idea of wildcard round. And I'm disgusted (yet not surprised) by the naked spin that the AFL has put out around the whole initiative.

They would have some scintilla of credibility in instituting this horrific idea if they could at least admit that it's yet another of their craven grabs for cash. Yet we get all this nonsense trying to suggest that it's what the fans want and that more 'finals' (no matter how fake) can only be good for the game.

To be that mendacious and that mercenary all at once is quite the wicked combination.

I dont get it, why so much dislike of this?

It means more games for fans to watch. Especially for teams that are in good form and have something to play for. THere have been a couple of years in the past where Geelong were in great form and just missed the finals, but could have given it a great shake.

I would watch the knockout games. And yes, so what if the AFL make money from the games. It goes back to benefit the league, whether grassroots or new markets like Tasmania or even TPP for clubs. More money increases professionalism. It means we have great stadiums, good services in those stadiums etc.

Why don't we just have a final eighteen and be done with it.
More games, more entertainment, more money for the AFL.

Rewarding mediocrity.

In 10 years we will look back and more of these wildcard games will be blowouts than close contests, especially 7th v 10th.

All its doing is locking in top 6 being the goal each year and not top 4 as it used to be.

Also means the logical change, a pre-GF bye to allow teams to be at their best, is off the cards while a pre-finals bye, which helps teams who haven't earned an advantage, continues.

But hey, maybe the AFL will change things when its a Daicos or a Bontempelli who gets a PF concussion...

Interesting decision considering that Meek is only 7 months older and doesn't look like being displaced anytime soon

Smart list management, imo, sets a high floor for their ruck division. Wouldn't be on much money, turns him into a trade asset, should they get the offer.

Some teams have no issues attracting and keeping rucks while we struggle. I know Scott doesn't value old-fashioned rucks. That's one reason.

Are there any out-of-box reasons (like say hardness of our home ground) why the few rucks we get are injury prone?

Despite Scott's & Buck's thinking, is the strength of a midfield directly proportional to the prowess of the ruck(s)?

Edit: I know we threw the kitchen sink at RM and that he's wanted to come for the last 2 years.
