Feel free to point me to the right thread for this though hoping for some thoughts.

I'm moving back to the North East suburbs next year and looking at potential clubs to join that's close to home as I want to get out before and after work. This pretty much limits me to; Latrobe, Green Acres and Rosanna as they're a 10-15 min drive from where I'm moving too. Kew an option too though I suspect it's much more expensive than the former.

Will try to get a round in at each though any insights on either would be appreciated!

Welcome Peter (great name btw).

Any of those would be happy to have you as a member.

Hesitant about river clubs in winter or heavy sustainable rains given the chance of flooding. but then again it's not an annual event. hopefully.

I havent played LaT GC or GAGC so cant comment on those. a mate recently left rosanna because it was hard to get on on saturdays, and he mentioned he got bored on one course.

Dunno about the others but Kew definitely has a waiting list. Green Acres is a good fun club.

I am a Kew member but have played all those courses a bit recently. Kew and Green Acres advertise their fees. Kew $4060 annually for 7 day member and GA $3900. I dont think you will find big differences in the fees overall but Rosanna and LaTrobe don't give that detail.

I am biased but Kew is the best course of this group but all are enjoyable. Kew is busy but so are the others, moreso than say Sandbelt courses. Green Acres next best and should include Heidelberg in your list. Hilly and fast greens. Rosanna a bit same same but enjoyable. LaTrobe underrated. Great little course.

Might be best to check waiting lists. Kew has got longer with golf's new popularity post covid. Suspect La Trobe would be shorter but not sure

Heidelberg.

No joining fee.

Used to be a member there and loved it. Kew is a better course, but I liked Heidelberg as a club.
It’s just ultra flat, Kew. Like Green Acres, sans a couple of holes.

The joining fees are crazy as well (not sandbelt crazy though).

It has been a long time since I played it, but I have fond memories. Must get out there again. Heidelberg certainly isn't flat though, I'm lucky I was young when I played there.
It sure as shit is not. One of the hilliest courses in the state.

Kingston Heath. It's not a completely unreasonable take - plenty have KH as their "favourite" over RM(IBF is one) - but given Rors is being paid to play at RM this week, he should have chosen his words a little better.

That's super interesting. Thanks!

Pretty wild that, no matter which way you look at it, there's two world class golf courses within 5km~ of each other like that though.

(And that doesn't even include Sandy, Capital, and VGC!)

Even crazier that the original site of the combined RM/Metro course was in East Malvern. Lucky they didn't stay there.

Vic, PK Norf, RMW.. RME...Commomwealth. Only played Capital once, but it's not a Sandbelt (great course though US styles).

All of them are running 2nd to The National Old (which is the greatest).

And don't forget the hidden gem in Melb, Royal Cheltenham. Next door to Vic, better than Sandy.

KH is great but it's a pancake, imo can't be better on that basis. There's a slight rise on 17, but that's it. It's basically Spring Valley in dinner suit.

You've all listed some wonderful courses, but obviously Mt Derrimut is #1 because I scored my first ever birdie there.

(Am playing Kooringal in a couple of weeks though - can't wait to see how nice that is).

What do you see on #15 tee, #16, #1, #6, #8, #7.
Some people don’t appreciate the subtlety.

I’m already regretting replying to this rubbish.
