This has been absolutely horrible by Australia. They massively overplay the batting at night thing.

They threw away all their wickets in the pink ball test in the West Indies so they could have 9 overs at them at night where they took 1 wicket. They came back the next day and rolled through them before having to bat a whole session at night.

It was so dumb only being saved by the ineptitude of the WIndies batting.

Very small sample size at Test level. Averages just over 22 in first class cricket which is Starc/Cummins sort of range

What we're doing is obvious as a strategy, but it's a) a bit soft, and b) might hurt just as much as losing a wicket or two overnight would've been.

It's not just runs either. Momentum is a real phenomenon that we've just gift wrapped for England as well as quite frankly this play is the most easily taken advantage of by "Bazball"

Honestly I'd take losing a wicket or two over this. Set proper fields and bowl at the stumps to #11 and if your test match opening batter cannot navigate a few overs before stumps that is a different and more reasonable problem.
