Had an absolute ball watching these past 2 days of cricket.

One huge positive out of yesterday wasn't even just confined to the game itself. Weatherald has shown he might just have what it takes to make the opening spot his own for a little while, which would be perfect timing considering our perceived lack of options.
On top of this, Kellaway made a great score for Australia A and Konstas made a century in the shield. Suddenly the future of our opening bat depth feels a lot more comfortable.

A guy like Green who has potential but barely averages 35 should be hungry to get past 50.

It's the shot of a guy who is very comfortable and thinks he can't be dropped.

I think it's a fair point. In his five years since he debut I wouldn't say he has improved alot. The selectors have shown they will just keep picking him .

He will play plenty of Test Cricket when not injured and score plenty of runs but we are not building a team around him like some suggested.

The score was ticking over at 5 an over without having to bat like an #11 in the BBL.

Nobody had an issue with Smiths dismissal really, as you get that with that run rate.

Green got hit on the thumb and decided to turn into a complete pussy, by the looks.

That ball was a half volley, I’ve seen him hit it into the stands in the IPL simply addressing the ball in a natural position.
I haven't given Green any sort of free pass. Players make mistakes and criticism is allowed to occur. The whole "Test cricket is dead" schtick by some really is a bit much, though. Along with the assumption that this mediocre Aussie batting lineup (based on the past few years) could casually grind up a score of 600+ the slow and sensible way.

We’ve put on nearly 50 runs since the last wicket under lights and people are acting like Green has let them back into the game. We’ve got plenty of runs tomorrow before we get a crack at them at night.

Well he has both things can be right. He’s not dumb are we not 3 down or 4 down at most? 6 down is worse. So yes his shot did let us down. He would know that

Agreed.
If we can bat the first session we'll almost be out of sight of the poms.
Carey, Neser and Starc need to bat sensibly to try and get our first innings lead as close to 100 as possible.

Baseball games take a few hours.

The 2024 Australia/India and 2023 England/Australia series had several long Tests.

This one will probably take around 11-12 sessions.
Both sides are just slogging it straight up in the air giving wickets away

70+ overs means the innings are nothing like T20 or ODI's. Those formats are 100% focused on runs required for a pre-stipulated amount of overs. The flow of a Test match, even when the batting is extremely aggressive, is nothing like the other versions of the game.
Bazball and T20 mentality have reset the history books and ruined our game

Well with 16 wickets for 700+ runs from 150 odd overs (about 4.6 runs per over), it's hardly been a disastrous batting strategy from either team. I'm not seeing the T20 run rates of 12 per over and totals of 150-240.
Occupying the crease would be the better option

Nail on the head.

I'm no cricket expert, but it seems to me that these continuous 50, 70, 90-something run partnerships that the Aussies are putting on (with a healthy dose of luck, granted) must be bloody draining and demoralising to an England team that a) feeds on emotion and momentum; and b) looked absolutely cooked bowling in the fourth innings in Perth.
If we get a heatwave in Adelaide, that'll be them done for the series.

So we can't play properly
What's properly for you, 1950s style battles of attrition that almost bored the sport to death? We're a quarter of the way into the twenty first century and you sound like one of those old duffers who lost their minds when one day cricket first arrived.

Perhaps not. We'll see what sort of lead we build with this approach. There isn't much evidence of Australia putting up slow burn 500+ or 600+ scores over the past 5 years.
Actually expect Carey to bat normally today - think that was a response to conditions last night.
