An interesting take. Other than a couple of match winning innings is he really as good as everyone makes him out to be??

Bit of a straw man as ive never seen anyone compare him to Kallis or Sobers, besides drunk barmy army members but hes not even in the Freddie, Botham tier

Root is reputed to be a champion bloke. Like Adam Goodes - an absolute jet.

And in all fairness to Stokes, while Root is universally liked, they weren’t much chop when he was captain

Good to see Joffra really fire up and show some serious fight when Australia needed 15 runs to win.

The soft peanut won’t even bother to play the next test

Crazy how underrated he is too
He has as many runs as Ricky pointing in tests and as many wickets as Brett Lee in tests.

So kallis's test career was essentially - Ricky's test batting career + Brett lee's test bowling career.

It is absolutely crazy how good he was .

There is only about 20 players ever with 100 Test wickets and a batting average better than their bowling average. Only about 10 with 200 wickets. So he's in pretty good company solely from that numbers perspective

He should average much more than 35 to be fair. I think with his batting ability it should be above 40. From 2016 to 2020 he averaged 42.3 with the bat over 47 Tests, not sure why he wasn't able to sustain that

Has always been a big moments player I guess which probably holds him in a higher standard than others with his numbers. Always seems to step up when the chips are down. I would suspect most with a Test average of 35 get the majority of those runs when times are easy and go missing when the game is on.

Not to start the arguments of "best of all time" but Kallas is, imo, the 2nd greatest cricketer of all time. only behind Bradman

I haven't watched enough of Garfield sobers, but I have had some of my older friends who have , say that he was the greatest all rounder of all time. So tough for me to pick between kallis and sobers when I only sobers highlights to go off.

Having said that, if it came down to kallis vs Tendulkar for the one spot in a side , I am taking kallis over Tendulkar every single time. Your team would be so much more lethal with kallis instead of Tendulkar, especially when you factor how good of a fielder kallis was as well.

I think he sits in a category with Botham and Flintoff in the freakish individual performances will always resonate a bit louder than the overall career stats.

Should the Adelaide Test be decided before day 5, this England team will hold the record for the fewest days to lose an Ashes series in Australia currently held by Nasser Hussain's 2002-03 team. Without trying to sound cruel, Nasser's team took a water pistol to a gunfight player for player. This England side was understandably being spoken about as a team that could at least be competitive across the series. We haven't seen evidence of that since they bowled Australia out for 132 in Perth.

Am I crazy, or is this English side just shit? I don't care how many soft runs Crawley and Duckett get in England - they're both shit. Ollie Pope may be the worst number 3 i've ever seen. Jamie Smith cannot catch. Atkinson, Carse and Jacks would be lucky to get a game at Shield level in Australia, let alone tests. The fact that this is allegedly the best English side they've sent in decades is astonishing...

No one will ever come close to the level of kallis.

He is statistically the greatest all rounder in cricket and it is not even close.
Sobers comes more than close, his only disadvantage compared to Kallis is that he played considerably less Test cricket.

Must be a heavy burden for Stokes to be expected to
  • be a captain
  • take most of the wickets
  • make most of the runs
  • be a politician when questioned about the suspect coaching philosophy
Stokes also commits to very dumb bowling tactics, can’t manage his bowlers at all and is the number 1 bazball cultist.

I think it’s really clear that at the start of bazball, England benefited from Broad and Anderson having the status to decide their own field settings and how they were going to bowl
