RTB makes some interesting comments on Gubby & SOS and how highly he rates them but how he needs to rein them in on that podcast yesterday.

Effectively said that when SOS took the job we were $1m over the cap and 2 years later $4m below which enabled the spending spree.

Said he managed to turn the list from 2nd or 5th oldest into 5th youngest and then repeated the games played by under 21s stat again.

Said Gubby is highly rated in the afl world and he can get you into any agents room to discuss the players we want and how he deals with a lot of that GM of footy stuff with Ross which is why they are working on a new structure with AB.

But said you need both to be successful and you need Ross himself to rein them in as they can come up with a lot of crazy stuff.

I'm not so sure. Lyon has always rated continuity and if you can't guarantee him long stretches of form he'll play the lesser talent with a more solid body. Same goes for Butler. If he's fragile he could easily be fringe even though he's an asset when fit. If Caminiti can lift even 25% and be consistent he could push Howard out permanently. HE's getting to that level experience now.

No better example than Dawson over Hudgton.

Just has something about him, absolutely ****ing mercurial, if it clicks for him and Collard that’s an insanely dangerous combination in the F50

Keeler just needs one missing ingredient to make it big in the AFL imho.

It's pretty damn clear that if King doesn't get back to his best football consistently, then the contract is a fail.

It's not rocket science.

All the hyperbole around list management is absolute delusion though - from the usual suspects as well.

The club isn't going to get every decision right - no club does. If by some miracle they do, we will probably win 10 flags in a row.

Yes he is a fantastic leap at the ball. And yes he is a competitive lad.

But what other aspects of forward craft has he exhibited that has you labelling him already as a "generational" forward?

It is not his kicking which needs to improve.

I have not watched him enough as a forward to know what his leading patterns etc are like.


PS. I too am Viking Fan. But it is early days yet and whether he will be better forward or back I have no firm opinion on yet. Especially forward as I have not really watched him play there.

Bassett is here to stay.

Dougal Howard and Paddy Dow have completed the full pre-season program so far after injury-affected campaigns in 2025.

If Roma takes a #1 defender, Sharman takes #2 and Owens probably takes the 3rd best defender then Keeler is taking on chumps.

40 goals might be a stretch but 1.5 is 35 and he’s kicked 10 in 11 games with **** all around him in a team with a way worse midfield.

Hall and Wood kicked about 20 each from memory. Hall even as a mid probably goes up from there. Nas moving to the midfield should add to his 18 from this year. Wilson is the other one that should add to his tally.
