It's very concerning, but again, surely that's an intelligence failing rather than a political decision to let terrorists off scot-free.
this clearly looks an intelligence failure (with some administrative bungles thrown in for good measure - all under the watchful eye of conservative govts as it turns out)

but lnp, conservatives in general, the Qookerverse and msm want to lay the blame at albaneses feet

this country is stoopid

And though it's far too early to say definitively, it looks like a lot of ****-ups were at the state level, yet for some reason, to the media, Minns is suddenly a golden boy, while Albo is the antichrist.

Minister is middle management, whilst also is the CEO.

If we're going to discuss what the PM and his Foreign Affairs Minister said then best to start with quoting them and their use of the word 'sorry' exactly:

Albanese:

''I feel the weight of responsibility for an atrocity that happened whilst I'm Prime Minister,... and I'm sorry for what the Jewish community and our nation as a whole has experienced.'

Wong:

'Im desperately sorry for what has occurred in our country and what the Jewish community have experienced'.

IMO these are words of empathy and understanding and with a lot more depth and understanding than the 'thoughts and prayers' trope dished out by political leaders after similar tragedies in the US for example.

And they have nothing to do with accepting the blame being levelled at them by the likes of Frydenberg, Hanson, Leys, Morrison and Howard for the murderous acts of two terrorists. Blame that is being levelled for cynical political reasons.

I assume this is a satirical comment.

Because yes, this is the 'general agreement' amongst those seeking to make partisan political capital of the tragedy in Bondi. And using it as a platform to wreak revenge for her and her government's policy position on daring to join the rest of the international community in condemning the Israeli slaughter in Gaza and to provide justice for the Palestine people in terms of human rights, self determination and an end to the Israeli sanctioned illegal occupation of their lands.

Seeking justice for Palestine and holding the Netanyahu administration accountable for the ongoing tragedy that unfolded since the IDF invaded Gaza two years ago is NOT antisemitism, despite what the Murdoch press and certain right wing Israeli support organisations are alleging.

And on the front page criticism levied at Penny Wong led by the Liberal leadership for her not being able to cry on cue when the cameras are on her, I agree with what Mark Kenny had to say. That it has all the hallmarks of the public hounding of Lindy Chamberlain and her lack of emotion after the loss of her daughter. There's something more than a bit of misogynistic about it.

well its a start, isnt it? They're saying sorry and now we can punish them by making them resign and then start the education program.

I suggest that the new gov't brings in some experts in muslim terrorism from israel, and implement some of their techniques. It's sometimes difficult to work out exactly what governments should be doing regarding antisemitism but I suggest that importing these kinds of experts will be received well by the jewish community.

Obviously an intelligence failure. This article indicates a pathway forward. Local jewish groups which Minns has indicated might be armed in the future demonstrate that they probably have connections with Mossad. See the ABC article.

Rather than rely on ASIO to fumble around with this information, I think the jewish community would be far happier if CSG was allowed to take over total responsibility for Australia's intelligence and enforcement regarding antisemitism, and restrict ASIO to other matters.

In addition to my suggestion above, it's already been flagged that a state royal commission isnt enough. Here a federal royal commission is suggested. That would allow the investigation of incidents in other states. I would suggest that expertise from overseas could be brought in.

I used to drink at The Swan opposite Stockwell Tube sometimes and they'd have whip arounds for the lads back home.
yes, and in todays era (of restricting funds to terrorist organizations) the police could enforce the law on you

i suspect israeli experts are experts in how to inflame division so you can oppress, divide and conquer.
im not intereted in pandering to any communitys sky fairy belief

Not only is this illegal and unconstitutional... It wouldn't survive one day in the High Court.

Do you want Muslim groups to start policing Islamophobia? That's where you reasoning lands.

yes, but they know how to deal with the problem and they would have the confidence of the jewish community. I have a feeling that the local jewish community just wont trust outsiders like the PM etc. Probably jewish posters can say more on this...

I dont see the government under the same pressure to deal with islamophobia. Certainly, the media only pays lip service to this issue. It's a complete different dynamic.

This is probably a good example of the web sites that the government will be targeting in the coming year. It's done by a guy called Nick Hanna who is a sydney lawyer who has been representing pro-palestinian activists involved in demonstrations.

However, he is doing more than just representation. He is advocating conspiracy theory kind of stuff, which you can see here

So they’re taking responsibility for not taking stronger action against antisemitism?
What stronger action should they have taken?

Subcontracting our national intelligence (and enforcement!) to private organisation that has "connections" with a foreign country is a ****ing stupid idea. Be reasonable, FFS.

I don't think they do know
they may have the trust of the jewish community who also fund expansionist israeli settler claims but I doubt they would have confidence of those who see Israel also sharing fault in Gaza
there is nothing special about jewish opinion. They are just opinions of people, who happen to share a particular religion (ie another opinion). May as well say opinion of Collingwood supporters, or Richmond supports for all the relevance religion has.

because theres no media support to highlight islamophobia

Jillian Segal’s recommendations at least.

Albo and Wong could watch the video of October 7.

How? These threats are knowns.

Another example. In response to the shooting, they are vowing to shut down the mosques/facilities of hate preachers. Why not chuck the hate preachers in jail, and put anyone who was attending those “services” on VERY thin ice? Because the only actions they are willing to take are mostly just gestures.

I understand why you want to run away from these, but still waiting. Is this the western logic and reasonableness that you were talking about?

Is that the same western logic and reasonableness that's seeing Trump blowing up Carribean fishermen to avoid people talking about him f***ing children?

I was thinking it was the same Western logic that saw a guy shoot 50+ people in a mosque in New Zealand.

WMD's in Iraq was another good example of us whitey's staggering intellect as well.

Obviously, there would have to be something like what happens at Pine Gap where there is a nominal joint leadership, but where the US runs the show. The same occurred in the past with the sub communications station near Exmouth. So it can be done "reasonably"

Like the islamophobia issue, the anti-settler issue brings very little political weight. If the gov't wants relief from the pressure, I'm making suggestions.

So far, the only suggestions that I have heard in the last few weeks are education for school kids and public servants, police etc and targeting muslim hot spots.

Minns says that he is considering the jewish community to have its own police force with guns etc. The current security force is already trained by the IDF in israel. I was just suggesting a further extension. A "joint venture" with Mossad would be similar in nature to Pine Gap.

What about the fact that a “Sydney based IS cell” is even a thing that exists?

Prosecutors say both men are leaders of neo-Nazi organisations with Sewell tied to the European Australian Movement and Hersant to the National Socialist Movement.
Sewell, 28, and Hersant, 22, are facing a committal hearing in Melbourne magistrates court over allegations they robbed and assaulted the hikers. They’re charged with offences including unlawful assault with a weapon and robbery with a weapon.
It’s alleged Sewell and Hersant were among a group of about 20 neo-Nazi group members in the Sugarloaf Peak area on 8 May this year.

A large cache of leaked private messages has revealed how Australian Neo-Nazi groups took inspiration from their counterparts overseas.
But what is clear is that Australian Neo-Nazis have long been inspired by overseas organisations that have been declared terrorist groups in Australia.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11-13/neo-nazi-thomas-sewell-released-from-prison/106005212
Neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell has been granted bail for charges relating to an attack on a First Nations camp in Melbourne's CBD in August.
Prosecutors allege he led a group of far-right extremists to attack occupants of Camp Sovereignty.

I cannot for a moment imagine a time in Australia where ISIS supporters would be able to march through the streets of Australia with police escorts and police protection.

Far right extremism in Australia has been growing exponentially. And you can see supporters of it across Australia, including in some threads on BigFooty.

It isn't being handled properly. Not enough is being done.
But it shouldn't only become an issue, if it can be connected to Islamic extremism.
It should all be an issue. And actions taken against all of it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Sewell_(neo-Nazi)
According to Sewell, in 2017 he attempted to recruit Brenton Tarrant, the eventual perpetrator of the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings, into the Lads Society.

To ignore neo-Nazi marches across Australia, while condemning pro-Palestinian marches is dishonest and absurd.
People can't only call anti-Semitism on people opposing Israel's actions, while defending the 'free speech and movement' of neo-Nazi groups, gatherings and events.
