Problem is the Coalition need to get back together to build an effective opposition & Nationals refuse to deal with Leys, so are forcing a change.

Nah. Parliament can cope with this for 12 months. Will mean nothing and the ALP have the majority. Can do as they like. They can form closer to the election and use the honeymoon period of a new leader and new messaging to build momentum. Doing it this early will not have the desired outcome.

honestly it may seem right to replace Leys now but she is a stop gap opposition leader. Its still two years before the next election. If they jump to the leadership now, there will be no chance they will rise to the Prime Ministership. Opposition leaders rarely last long.
Do you think, Leys was always destined to be a stop-gap .......seems incredibly stupid to believe she could offer the strength of character and foresight to turn the Libs around

What an absolute mockery of the Australia Day awards.....AO to Kristina Kenneally what an absolute joke.
Doesn't every state premier end up with one.

Politicians have always looked after themselves with Australia Day awards.

So her claim to fame is she knifed the then Labor leader Nathan Rees to gain the leadership in a coup and then got rissoled at the next election in an absolute flogging. Parachuted into Bennelong to oppose John Alexander...fail.
Gets parachuted in to the seat of Fowler as the candidate in the House of Reps and again gets flogged.

Sorry it's an absolute joke.

As if being Eddie Obeid's "girl" wasn't enough.

I find it surprising that you think it's surprising another politician is given an Australia Day award.

They look after themselves.

Who was the last premier not to get an award is probably more telling.

Awareness isn’t one of is strongest traits.

Seriously, I take no notice of these type of awards. Reason : if you are paid to do your job then that should suffice.

Appears Keanneally agrees with you, but then she should have turned down the nomination.

4 Politicians got awards - 2 Liberal & 2 ALP.

So Doctors, Scientists, Health Workers, Military/Naval, Air Force folk etc that go above and beyond in service to the country/public life shouldn't receive Australia Day Awards. Nah you are absolutely, totally wrong.

Keneally however is not a worthy recipient.

I hope anyone who burns an Australian flag today, or any other day of the year is arrested under the new hate laws.

Just the sane as, if anyone burns an Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander flag are also arrested.

No politician of any political persuasion should get an Australia Day honours unless they complete significant and I mean significant volunteer work outside politics.

Agree.

Should be for the unsung hero's, not those living off a nice taxpayer pension.

I wouldn't be so confident.
Even if she joins forces with Nationals, they are never going to be a dominant Australian party.

Outside of Queensland, they don't have significant support.

Most Australians will not vote for her.

Then Tony Abbott qualifies, volunteer firefighter, volunteer surf and lifesaver, Pollie pedal annually to raise money for charity and other charitable efforts.

Agreed. Very happy to see him rewarded for his work outside of his political offices.

Scomo was famously quoted as saying "I don't hold a hose" - Abbott was (and is) the complete opposite. I despise his politics, and maintain that he was one of the worst PMs in Australia's history, but I have great respect for his volunteer work in the community.

The problem Pauline has is she needs to maintain the movement and its wholly reliant on the ALP not changing their ways and the Libs not developing policies that counter the ALPs policies. So her potential to be successful is very limited and based on what other parties do. So if she rests on the current polls she may as well retire and not bother. Two years in Australian politics is a very long time.

The other difficult thing for one nation is expanding itself into 'left' territories. 30% support counts for crap if if all it does is equal minority support in a majority of seats. The libs are on the nose all over Australia. So even if she wins support from those lib seats its not overly going to translate into actual seats.

Will be interesting to see what happens

Rob Kerin is still yet to receive one (but he was only premier for 5 months), Steele Hall never received one

In NSW, Mike Baird & Gladys Berejiklian have yet to receive one (but they were both after Keneally)
Earlier than Keneally, Nathan Rees, Morris Iemma & Bob Carr. Surprising that Keneally would get the nod before Carr.

Qld, pretty much everyone in the modern era prior to Palaszczuk has received something.
