I assume it possibly includes these below that have previously been mentioned. BHA down for Modern Pentathlon
  • At-Risk Sports: Archery, modern pentathlon, shooting, weightlifting, and wrestling have been highlighted as potentially vulnerable to being dropped or having events reduced.

Brisbane 2032 could be the most slimmed-down Olympic and Paralympic Games since London 2012, with the International Olympic Committee considering swinging the axe on 10 sports.
IOC officials are progressing on president Kirsty Coventry’s Fit For the Future review, which could recommend sports be cut from future Olympic Games.
The group is expected to present its findings in June before Brisbane’s sports program is announced later this year.
Reports indicate IOC officials are pushing for Brisbane 2032’s program to return to at least 32 sports, down from 36 in Los Angeles 2028.
However some IOC officials reportedly want the program to match the size of London 2012, when just 26 sports were featured.
Olympic Games expert and journalist Duncan Mackay said archery, modern pentathlon, shooting, weightlifting and wrestling could be axed after the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Cricket is expected to be retained for Brisbane 2032, with organisers and Premier David Crisafulli throwing support behind a gold medal match being used as the Gabba’s swan song.

I will have a go at the ones Australia could drop

Archery, Modern Pentathlon, Lacrosse, Squash, Baseball, Softball, Sports Climbing,
Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Flag Football
I would be sad to see weightlifting go.

I would be sad to see weightlifting go.
Looks like Australia has only won 4 weightlifting medals in total at the Olympics
The USSR boycotted the 1984 Olympics of which Australia won 2 of the 4 total medals
We only sent 3 weightlifters to Paris 1 male & 2 females.

I’ve never watched the weightlifting for the Aussie athletes.

I have watched most weight divisions at every Olympics because I like watching people lift heavy things.

And it’s more interesting than boxing.

I feel like it's a classic Olympics sport but it's also hard to argue with just how doped up it is. There's been over 50 medals stripped in the last couple of decades...

Not a fan of weightlifting, last time I watched it for any length of time (more than 60 seconds) would have been the Dean Lukin Gold in 1984, I was 24 years old at the time. Boring as bat shit as they say, each to their own turn ons though.

It’s a good sport to have on while scrolling through BigFooty, and it usually doesn’t cross over with the swimming or athletics.

So fair to say you've given it a fair shake then seeing as though you've watched it so recently? :  :D

The IOC will know the viewing figures for each sport at previous Summer Olympics.
The ones they will cut are the lowest viewing sports. Then there was talk about moving some to the Winter Olympics

I hope the IOC make some decisions soon on what is to be dropped and take it out of the LNP hands
I believe the LNP have to produce the sports program before the extraordinary IOC Session on 24 and 25 June 2026 in Lausanne.

If you can reduce broadcasting costs and also reduce the number of venues for host cities, the Olympics is less expensive.
I doubt dropping some smaller viewing sports will reduce the broadcast rights amount.

Little Brisbane does not need any more sports than London.
London had 26 sports and 39 disciplines
Paris had 32 sports and 48 disciplines
LA down for 36 sports & 51 disciplines but they did not have to build one new venue

Pretty sure it's the IOC & Bribane 2032 Organising Committee who decide the sports program, not the Queensland Government.
Thanks for that.
Wouldn't it be a laugh if they decided rowing won't be included.
Unlikely since it's been in every games bar 1 when bad weather cancelled it.
........................................................
One interesting thing in this article when deciding on the sports.

"The proposed inclusions and exclusions are based largely on the popularity and relevance of the sports to the host country."

Here we go.
Brisbane 2032 rowing and canoe events could be moved to Penrith, if Rockhampton is not suitable - Julian Linden
Queensland risks losing the 2032 Olympic rowing and canoeing competitions to New South Wales because of rising concerns that fairness and the wishes of athletes are being sacrificed for party politics.
That’s the blunt warning the Queensland state government is about to be told by powerful global sports officials who have become increasingly fed up with local politicians they suspect of trying to hijack the 2032 Games for their own purposes.
The biggest sticking point is where the rowing and canoeing competitions will take place.
The state government is insisting the events will go ahead in Central Queensland, on Rockhampton’s Fitzroy River.
...
But the clock is ticking and in a major development now gathering momentum behind closed doors, it can be revealed that senior international sports officials are seriously considering switching the rowing and canoeing events to Penrith in NSW.
Speaking confidentiality because they still hope the impasse can be resolved amicably, multiple senior figures with knowledge of the pending standoff have told this masthead that if the Queensland government doesn’t do what’s best for the sport, the international federations will be permitted to take over the running of the sports from the Brisbane 2032 organising committee and hold the events in western Sydney.
“And if we do that, we’ll take some of the operating costs as well,” one Olympic source said. “I think Queensland needs to remember who’s paying for these Games.”
While Olympic leaders were hoping for a thawing in relations once the Winter Games ended, things have only further deteriorated.
...
However, it’s understood that Bleijie has already written to World Rowing this week, asking for a quick sign-off, claiming that a technical assessment of Rockhampton that was carried out by the Games independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) deemed the venue was fine.
...
Unimpressed, international sporting officials will deliver their response in coming days.

It would not surprise me if the LNP say okay if not at Rocky we are not spending money at Lawnton.
Take it to Sydney where not much costs involved.
Lawnton (Kurwongbah) is in a safe labor seat 55.9% to 44.1%. That's after a swing to the LNP of 7.3%

It will be bloody cold at Penrith but there are Olympic medals up for grabs on an Olympic quality venue.

This might be the "nail in the crockin"

Issued at 3:06 pm AEST on Friday 13 March 2026

River level rises are expected in the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton where a peak near the minor flood level (7.00 m) is possible early next week.

I dont really understand the whole give rowing to Rockhampton for votes, honestly who's voting for someone just because the rowing is there

That seems somewhat overblown, rivers flood quite often. Over here most rivers - even the canalised ones - flood each winter. You need to bear it in mind building infrastructure on it but it's manageable!

The concern is moreso that the rowing course has to remain undisturbed, not flood, for 12 months in the lead up to the Olympics.
