List Mgmt. 2026 Draftee/NGA/FS Discussion

Article provides a brief description of the most likely draft hopefuls from the WA Colts system - including the following West Coast Father/Sons and NGA tied players listed below:

The son of two-time premiership Eagle Drew and younger brother of St Kilda draftee Charlie, Harper is hoping to become the Banfield’s latest AFL star. He’s smaller than his brother, but he’s a competitor with elite endurance. His sprinting and agility have also improved significantly in the last six months, suiting a half-forward, midfield role.
Farmer is out for revenge in 2026 after missing Claremont’s premiership. The West Coast NGA prospect kicked nine goals from seven games as a bottom-age player and he was also a train-on with the State 18s quad.
The son of 2006 West Coast premiership player Michael, Noah is a goalkicking midfielder-forward who has had some big games for Claremont last year. Is pushing to make WA’s 18s squad after missing out on the summer training block.
An attacking halfback who is part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, Kenh announced himself as one to watch a couple of years ago after winning WA’s MVP award at the Under-16 national championships. Originally from Liberia in West Africa, Kenh takes the game on with his speed and agility. He’s also trained with West Coast as part of national academy commitments.
Exciting, agile and crafty, McGlade is everything you want in a small forward. The Eagles NGA prospect likes to take the game on with his run and carry, making him one of the Royals’ most exciting players to watch. Kicked five in one game last year and will be hoping another good start to the year will cement his spot in the state squad.
Is linked to West Coast as an NGA prospect and the Eagles would be pleased with Lee’s development. The developing tall has grown a few centimetres of late and grown into his body. His athleticism has been on show at summer squad training, finishing third in the running vertical leap at pre-season testing.
Another Eagles NGA prospect, Ketchup isn’t just another condiment. The electric forward has an unbelievable work rate, clean skills and he always knows where the goals are. Ketchup plays his best footy at half-forward, but he can also push into the midfield when needed.
The West Coast NGA prospect missed most of last year with a stress fracture in his back but made an impact in the last four games of the season. Perera has been training with the State summer squad and his smarts and speed make him one to watch.
The West Coast NGA prospect is known for his speed, power and X-factor. The Karratha product played in the State trial game recently and will be one to watch this year.
Not mentioned in the article, but is a potential KPD from Swan Districts in our NGA who was on the radar of some posters last year

After last year, my general thoughts are don’t get too attached to these NGA boys 🫣
For sure, but if they are draftable/have AFL traits they generally are cheaper and we at least have Cat B spots if we like them enough.
Long way to go but there are enough NGA/FS's in our group this year to think there is 3 or 4 list spots available depending on their years and the likes of M Champion/Jake Miles-Wrench who are CAT B rookies.

Just found another WC NGA prospect.

Eliza Reilly reporting on 42 top WA prospects has Damien Newry from CL as a FRE NGA and some/all/we had him flagged as a WC NGA, reportedly from Kunnunarra.

Out of nowhere Lorenze Cole from SD is named as a WC NGA.

Did some research, google, Lorenze Cole from Karratha played in the WA side in the Schools Sports Australia 15 and Under Boys Championships where WA won group B versus Vic White/QLD/ACT looked like the weaker group.

WA def QLD in the final by 40 points with Thatcher Simmonds from Subiaco winning BOG in the final with 5 goals and Lorenze Cole kicking 4 goals for a strong performance.
1 to watch maybe?

NB: I’ve stickied this article as a link for our F/S and NGAs

It seems Shanahan has been left out of the article for whatever reason so I’ve listed him as well

If there are any other possible NGAs that should be added, could the usual suspects please let me know

I can see us needing to free up some space for some of these kids, maybe 8 list spots - 1 f/s in Banfield, Braun is a watch too, maybe a trade jn/Free agent, 2 draft picks and 3-4 of these NGAs, who all look so promising. I believe Robert Bonney at EP is another. Finding enough spots won't be easy. Pity the list manager. Exciting though!

Bar some breakout top age year realistically only Banfield, Kenh and possibly McGlade are likely to make it onto the list. Braun is very small, doubt he fits our list strategy just on that alone.

Even Kenh has some question marks and we’ve shown last year that FSs that many in the industry rate don’t have a rite of passage onto the list, even if they come for free.

Legend thanks

I do want us to draft Lecras, mainly because I dont want to be hearing commentators call Lecras for the opposition :sob:

If we lose JWilliams and BWilliams, which isnt terribly unlikely, we have a need for another KPF anyway

Skip trading for Walter, just not really needed

Draft a mid with our first pick, Lecras, then just match all of Kehn/McGlade/Banfield after?

Find a couple of KPDs with rookie selections - Shanahan still floating around?

Lets hope some push up and make it hard not to select them.
At this stage the 3 you mention & Farmer are projecting as the top 4.

Tazzi Faithful, surely a lock for the Devils!

I thought Braun was small too, but he is listed at 183 now. That's not small. Good size, actually. Taller than me, anyway.
He must have had a growth spurt.

I can’t see us drafting another 6 players thru the draft this year. I doubt we get even younger again.
I can't see us drafting more than 6.
They were happy with 5 before Rodriguez was available as a rookie, but they also had 5 players on the hook older than 24.
1 or 2 of the rookies we have will not make it past the 2026 AFL side IMO.
McRae definitely doesn't seem to be in contention for a game anytime soon?

ketchup must be selected purely on name alone, what fun for the commentators!

Yep. I suspect Clarke already has plans for our 1R and we’re not going to like them.

Yes, he hasn't played for them for a while that why he is a Cat B.
Played with L Ashcroft in his year as juniors.

Edit: just got conformation that he was an elite junior in QLD footy but not in the BRI Academy.
Played with L Ashcroft & Marshall in that age group where he was the best player in the U14's QLD squad.

Haha after all the jokes of Chesser peaking at U10s we actually grabbed someone whose best footy was in the U14s!

At least the didn't cost a first round draft pick! 😂

I just hope/expect that WC's 1st round pick 1-3 is used on the best gun midfielder available.
Every time I watch an AFL game with all the different rules that have been introduced over the last few years it's increasingly evident if your midfield doesn't bat really deep you are way off a top 4 finish let alone premierships.

I hope WC don't get sucked into the position of most of the top 8 sides who have a good team but lack midfield depth & quality.
Keep drafting the best mids while we are bottom 4-5 and fill in the rest of the list with positional needs where we find them.
Quality KPD's/Rucks/role players can be found from the 2nd round of the draft on.

And this is where WC should be offering any trade value needed to bring in quality to fill our list, 2nd round picks on.
We probably have 20 players 25 and younger that have a high likelihood of being good AFL players long term.

This means we have to draft another 10 to make a list ready for 2030 in the next 2 years.
Trade numbers need to be 8-10 over the next 2-3 to give us a premiership winning capable side IMO.
