Not sounding nasty - but at senior level Knevitt hasnt played 1 qtr , or had a purple patch of 10 minutes where you think this bloke could be a good player for Geel , but he is just too slow for AFL football

In the old days he would be cleared midseason to one of the VFA clubs because that is his level
There was one game a couple of years ago against Adelaide at home where he had a really classy cameo and I thought he'd broken through, but he's kind of tread water since at AFL level.

Being stuck behind Holmes, Smith, Atkins, Bruhn etc doesn't help.

2020 is a blur for me, I don’t understand the reference

RICHMOND defender Nick Vlastuin received a shock on the eve of Saturday's Toyota AFL Grand Final after learning that his coastal property had been suspiciously lit on fire.

Emergency services were called to Vlastuin's property in Torquay on Victoria's surf coast in the early hours of Friday morning.

While I agree with you in the main part, I don't think it's so much a "wanted to be rewarded" as much as just looking at their options and deciding that hey, for a tiny salary cap hit, we can have two good AFL-standard ruckmen and keep a potential competitor from even having one.
Yeah Ross really rates him as well. Will be released this year though

Serious question bit would we still chase him? Between now and then Edwards just needs to build tank really. Conway is technically back in the VFL mid year

Not sure if you can quite make out Ross and the rest of the St Kilda mob on the shoreline there.

But you get the idea.

Marshall?

I wouldn't bother going after him at the end of this season

It was one thing to sign him on a 2 or 3 year deal after last season - he turned 30 in Nov, and would have provided an immediate option to replace Stanley, while also affording Edwards further development time and Conway recovery time

With him turning 31 this year, I'm not sure you'd want to really sign him to more than a 2yr deal on nice but not crazy money, because surely within the next 2yrs is when we'd want to be seeing Edwards/Conway(?) taking over as our long term option

But if you sign an option like Marshall on say a 3yr deal on solid money of say around $2 million across those 3 years ($700k -> $800k per season type thing), then you're almost obligated to be looking at him as the #1 ruck for at least the next 2 years

It's one thing to transition away from being the #1 option at your current club as you get towards the end of your career, but to move clubs as part of that transition process doesn't necessarily seem to work

Yeah it just feela like the wrong length if commitment at this stage. Like if we sign anyone it should be a guy with one year left in the tank. Essentially replacing Stanley in the VFL. That's even if we think we need that.

Wpuld want a strong review when/if Conway plays 2s

Agree

And not sure Marshall would be looking at moving to a new team on just a 12 month deal

Marshall just has a different feel to when we looked at someone like Ceglar who really seemed a break glass option

Torch on. I said technically. Equal chance he announces his retirement
Conway had a separate complication which the club will probably mention soon, but his foot has well and truly recovered from last years surgery. His current program is aimed at mid season games in the VFL.

As a result of that the club has obviously needed to rethink how they use their ruck stocks. Stanley now back sooner through the VFL and Edwards was played a bit earlier than expected, and only once the Conway plan became clearer. As frustrating as it is for everyone, I don't think the club is really deviating from the original plan - and that was to have all ruck options available in the back half of the season and take a horses for courses approach to how we select the side.

I can't see any footballer living in Bacchus, they'll live in trendy Yarraville and drive out to the family every so often.

Zac is not the yarraville inner urban type. I think he will want a property with big land and space somewhere either out near his family or near Geelong.

Might be too old now he better hope geelong still wants him or he will be stuck there. And at 31 they wont get a r1 for him this year 2nd rounder at best. That ship sailed for st kilda last year.

Yes we still need him because Edwards is 2-3 years away body wise and Conway is cooked. The issue is a) we wouldnt want to give Rowan a really long deal on age (2-3 years at best) and b) no way would we be trading a r1 for him at that age probably a mid to late second at best and im not sure st kilda do it for that.

That'll be in 2028 at a minimum when Stewart will be 35 years old.

If that departure has a massive impact on us on-field at that point in his career, then we've got huge issues.

If Stewy wants to end his career making back the money that he missed out on in his prime, then more power to him IMO. He's earned that.
Fair call, Although I believe Stewart will still be playing high quality football at that point of his career and could still bring us another flag, especially if we get Butters and a real ruck in that time

Would have to be really cheap, and we'd simultaneously have to be really close to a flag this year.

If either doesn't occur, we're better off just trying to get Edwards to 50 games and 100kgs+ as quickly as possible, and seeing if Conway one day comes good in the 'nice to have' sequence of this scenario.

Anything above a second rounder is pointless IMO, particularly now that it's back to being a half decent draft after last year's awful pool.

I'm not normally a Falcons guy, and feel like we've got a preconceived bias to them most years with our geography.

That said, Pickett and Williams are great prospects IMO and fit our needs perfectly. I'd be doing everything possible to get them, and we'll need all the capital we can get to do so.
